Stunning Hotel, But Far From a True 5-Star Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My stay at Gran Hotel Son Net had both very positive and disappointing aspects. First, the property itself is absolutely beautiful. The architecture, gardens, and overall atmosphere are stunning, tasteful, and full of character. However, for a 5-star hotel, I expected much more attention to detail and service quality. I stayed in Suite 23 and, despite its historical charm, the strong moldy smell when entering the room was extremely unpleasant and not compatible with a luxury hotel experience. I also had issues during check-in. I arrived at the official check-in time and still had to wait around two hours in the bar area before my room was ready. It is also worth mentioning that my wife is pregnant, which made the long waiting time and lack of proper assistance even more uncomfortable for us. Another disappointment was that no staff member ever offered to present the hotel, its facilities, or the history of the property. Considering how unique the place is, I expected a much more personalized experience. The restaurant was also below expectations, with an extremely limited menu and disappointing food quality for this level of hotel. Finally, I requested a croissant through room service in the afternoon and was told it was only available during breakfast hours, which felt quite inflexible for a 5-star property. Overall, a visually incredible hotel, but the service experience falls short of true luxury standards.

Come for breakfast but don’t bother staying

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Grand Hotel Son Net is a stunning property and we wanted to love it. Gardens are beautiful and their breakfast was genuinely exceptional. However, our one night stay was completely and utterly ruined. This was the first night of our babymoon. I am pregnant, travelling with a toddler & expected a relaxing stay. We chose Grand Hotel Son Net specifically for a special, peaceful and luxurious experience to celebrate before our new baby arrives. From 10:30pm until the early hours of the morning we were subjected to loud relentless industrial mechanical banging directly adjacent to room 24. It was almost every hour until sunrise… When I raised the issue, staff claimed to have no idea what was causing it. In a boutique hotel of just 31 rooms that response is simply not credible. Furthermore, the room had a welcome card with two other guests names on it- suggesting our room allocation was a last minute decision made with little care or attention. The hotel comped our small food bill as a gesture. It was less than a quarter of the cost of the room. For a ruined babymoon, it doesn't come close.

Amazing historic luxury property

Beautiful hotel with an amazing pool, restaurant, and views. Excellent service and the entire hotel feels perfectly curated. We really enjoyed our stay, and I'd highly recommend Son Net! We stayed in the Palace Room Terrace, which was private, had great decor, and a stylish large bathroom.

Beautiful Hotel

We took a taxi from Palma to Son Net (20 mins) to dine at the Gazebo restaurant for lunch. We had wanted to book Mar & Diux for dinner, but it was closed for an event. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful and our first thought was to come back next summer and stay at the hotel. The restaurant Gazebo is pleasant with beautiful views of the valley. The food was very lovely, but not fine dining, perfect for a light simple lunch. As soon as we arrived at 2.30pm, we had ordered a taxi with the hotel concierge to take us back to Palma at 4.30pm. At 4.30pm we finished lunch but our taxi had not arrived. It took over one hour to arrive. We noticed that other guests were also waiting for taxis that they had ordered at 11am the same morning. Apparently it is normal to wait so long for taxis in this area....But unfortunately this experience was enough to change our mind about staying in the hotel next summer, when there would be three times the amount of people all trying to get taxis....

Lunch at El Gazibo in the Tramontana Mountains

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

We had heard a lot about the beautiful interiors of this hotel and decided to book into El Gazibo for lunch as it’s literally a 20 minute drive from Palma. We were greeted to valet parking and a tour of the fabulous public rooms of this gorgeous hotel, rich in patterned fabrics, restored old features and a warm ambience with fabulous mountainous views. Our lunch was delicious although I must say rather average for the price. However the staff were attentive and very friendly so I guess you’re paying for the location. Overall, well worth the trip.
