Son Bunyola hotel is Sir Richard Branson’s newest hotel. Each of the 27 beautifully designed rooms and suites have their own unique character, charm, and soaring views. It is located at the heart of Son Bunyola’s 1,300-acre estate, in Mallorca’s Tramuntana Mountains. Honoring the heritage of this historic building dating back to the 1500’s has been central to the restoration project with traditional and local materials at the core of the hotel’s design. Every detail has been carefully thought about and we’re proudly retaining all the original features, which is fundamental to the history of the local area.
When it comes to food at the Hotel think authentic Mallorcan dishes. Favoring a farm to fork ethos, much of the produce served in the two restaurants is grown in the estate's gardens and orchards. Sa Terrassa, the Hotel's main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offers dishes using local and seasonal ingredients.

Son Bunyola is a fantastic hotel. I absolutely adored my stay. I have added it to my list of favorite hotels! My husband and I do not request much, but I feel like nothing would be too much to ask of their staff. They have been trained well and meet guests' every need. The service is impeccable. The hotel is in a beautiful and somewhat remote area of Mallorca which adds to the charm and quiet atmosphere. It was an old Finca turned into a modern hotel on the grounds of a vineyard. The rooms are lovely, well kept, and have every item you could need. Every staff member is above and beyond. I feel like we were treated just the same as they would treat Richard Branson when he visits! All of the terraces offer superb views. The hotel is the perfect place to go to slow down and reset. However, they offer plenty of activities if you should choose to stay busy. Writing this review makes me want to go back immediately! Treat yourself and stay at Son Bunyola!

Son Bunyola’s location is genuinely extraordinary. The views, the mountain backdrop, the coastal remoteness - it’s the kind of setting that takes your breath away and does most of the work. The rooms are beautiful, clean and well considered, and the property itself is architecturally impressive. But at this price point, the gaps are hard to ignore. There are no spa facilities to speak of (beyond a massage)- no sauna, no steam room, no indoor pool. For a property positioning itself alongside the best rural hotels in the Balearics, this is a significant omission. The gym is tiny. When you’re paying what you’re paying and you’re somewhere this remote, you expect the facilities to justify the isolation. They don’t yet. Beyond the physical amenities, there’s something harder to put your finger on - a kind of hollow quality to the place. The courtyards and communal spaces are pretty and well designed, but they feel strangely inert. You sit in the central courtyard, it’s nice enough, and then… nothing happens. No one comes to offer a drink or bring some olives or nuts. No ambient music to give the space any warmth or life. Just you, the view, and at one point the hotel cat wandering through. You move from one beautiful space to the next and each one feels slightly unfinished in atmosphere, like a stage set waiting for a production that hasn’t quite started. Some background music, some genuine activation of these spaces, would go a long way. Service is warm and the staff are friendly - one genuine standout was when the team went to a nearby store to find nappies for our son when we ran out. That kind of human initiative is lovely. But warmth alone isn’t enough, and there’s an awkwardness to many of the interactions that’s hard to describe but consistently present. No tour of the property on arrival, no map despite the scale of the grounds. You find yourself having to ask what you can actually do rather than being guided through it. Poolside reinforced this. Towels weren’t laid out, umbrellas weren’t adjusted for shade, and getting a drink or placing a food order meant repeatedly getting up and going to the bar yourself. The staff weren’t unfriendly - there was just a passivity that made you feel like an inconvenience rather than a guest. At comparable properties the pool team comes to you with sun cream, drinks etc. That culture hasn’t landed here yet. For families specifically, the oversights stack up. No dedicated baby toiletries in the room. No nappy disposal. No change table anywhere on the property - not in the rooms, not in the bathrooms, not by the pool. Even mid-range hotels have these as standard. It gives the impression that families are welcomed in theory but haven’t been thought through in practice. Checkout was the low point. We had a late checkout and used the pool, which was appreciated. But when it came time to leave, we were told to wait as new guests were arriving and our car wasn’t accessible. Fifteen minutes of stress before a flight. No water in the car. No warm send-off. The feeling was clear - once new guests were arriving, we were no longer the priority. At comparable properties every bag is loaded, waters are placed inside, and the team genuinely waves you off. That’s the difference between a hotel thinking about you all the way to the gate, and one that’s already moved on. Food is similarly uneven. Breakfast is genuinely good and the setting is beautiful. The restaurant is serious and accomplished, if a little fussy. But the pool menu is a different story - mediocre pizzas, a burger, and a club sandwich with processed cheese and deli chicken that felt completely out of place. Given how remote you are with no alternatives whatsoever, this needs to be significantly better. No kids menu either, which at a property marketing itself to families is a real miss. Son Bunyola has the bones of something exceptional. The location alone is reason enough to visit, and with the right investment in facilities, a genuine activation of its beautiful spaces, and a tightening of service culture from arrival to departure, it could be truly special. For now it sits just a step short of the standard it’s aiming for, and you feel that gap most at the moments that matter.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. The team went out of their way to be accommodating. The property is stunning so you’d think that would be the highlight but for us it was staff that made our stay so memorable
