Reviews for Tropica Island Resort

Postcard Perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Tropica Island resort was postcard perfect. The resort has undergone a refurbishment and the facilities were excellent. The staff is what made our stay truly memorable. The Fijian hospitality made you feel part of the family. The snorkeling was amazing and free use of the kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling gear made activities easy at our own pace. We had read reviews that construction work was a big inconvenience but we hardly noticed it at all apart from a tractor that went past a few times a day. I would love to return again some day!

This resort should not be open for business

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This resort should not be open for business It is undergoing renovations and is essentially a building site and looks like will be until late in 2026. Construction noise from new structures and workers relaying grass and planting is continuous - not a relaxing peaceful resort that people expect Many unimpressed couples while we were there - some like us left early There is no beach - just mud and rocks Don’t be fooled by older photos when the beach existed If you are booked to go - I would cancel

Honeymoon at Tropica

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed at Tropica Island Resort for 14 nights from late May to mid-June on our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, we received an incredibly warm welcome from the staff. During our stay, there were some major construction works taking place (due to the recent cyclone and delayed deliveries). However, these hardly affected our holiday. As compensation, the resort also offered a complimentary snorkeling trip and a free happy hour, which we greatly appreciated. The kindness, warmth, and genuine hospitality of the entire team made this vacation truly special and one that we will remember for a very long time. We would especially like to thank: Reception Team: Viri, Sio, Sunny, and Ana Activity Team: Matthew, Ziggy, and Ily Kitchen & Service Team: Mariah, Vina, Ili, and Litia Room Service: Jakee We already miss your warmth and hospitality. KIRAU TALEITAKA VAKA LEVU NA JIKO I TROPICA! (And a special thank you to Matthew for the Fijian lessons!) Greetings from Germany Sophia and Daniel

Yawning gap between web site and reality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We booked this resort with a beach front pool villa for 7 nights as part of a 40th anniversary trip.  Just for context we are extremely experienced world wide travellers and have stayed at numerous locations over 40+ years from B&Bs to high end hotels.  Think we have realistic expectation of what to expect from this type of resort.  It was chosen because of the good Google, Booking.com and Trip Advisor reviews.  However what we did not know at time of booking was that the resort is undergoing a major renovation which is still far from finished.  Our comments below which have been acknowledge by the resort owner as correct via email correspondence directly with him. 1. The resort is undergoing major rennivation work with the result that there is or at least seems to be more workmen than guests.  This renovations leads to a tractor and trailer regularly driving around the resort, some  construction noise from approx 0730-1630 hrs, digging up of cables/pipes on the main pathway, a rough path way to the villas in places completely unlit requiring a phone torch to successfully navigate, septic tank fluid running across the main path way that goes from the villas to the restaurant and bar.  At the rate of progress we observed over 7 nights the resort is many weeks away from the renovation being completed 2. The food is not at a standard we would have expected or detailed on the web site.  Points are - excessive wait times for courses to arrive, lots of meal choices being unavailable from the menu although there was some welcome improvement during our stay, food arriving cold,  quality being far below what we expected and finally a meal plan that even when leaving we struggled to understand. The à la carte menu we used to choose from for our meal plan seems to us rather expensive. Another couple of points:  1. On arrival we raised with the front desk that  our pool was cloudy so we reported it to the front desk and they sent out somebody to add chemicals to clear the water.  We were then told it was unusable for 24 hours.  In addition the filter system stopped working and again we reported it and this time it took 36 hours to repair.  Not checking the pool prior to check in says a lot about the quality culture of this resort. 2. After leaving the resort we were informed by our U.K. agent that the booking had included 3x2 guided snorkelling trips. At no time during our stay did the resort inform us of these trips.  Note that the resort was selling these trips for FJ$150 each.  So our booking had trips totalling FJ$900 that we unfortunately were not informed about. The beach front villas should be retitled sea front bures as there is only a rough sand/coral and rock beach at low tide.  At high tide there is no beach.  One upside was that the room was OK and as expected plus due to its westward facing location the sunsets were nice.   The employees are lovely and try very hard to deliver excellence but when confronted with the points above their efforts are in vain.   Due to our email correspondence with the resort owner about the problems encountered we were offered 2 free massages by way of compensation.  We did not take up this offer and requested that the cost of these 2 massages be donated to the staff tip box.   Interestingly we are flying to Canada from Fiji and one location we are staying at in 2 weeks time has emailed us about their renovations work and proactively offered a 20% discount. In summay the resort is not ready to receive guests in its current state and needs considerable management focus over many weeks to get it back to the standard it was before renovations started.  We were so happy to leave and it was the definiate low point of the 4 countries we have been travelling through during the last 2 months on our 40th anniversary trip.   As a result of our experience we cannot recommend this resort until there is say 3 months track record of good reviews so that the web site matches reality and you will not be disappointed by the current yawing reality gap.

Magical island adult resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We had the most memorable holiday at Tropica. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Even though renovations were ongoing , they went out of their way to make it a fantastic stay. Our room with private pool was brand new, super clean and beautiful. Massive outdoor shower and beautiful furnishings. The view and sunsets from the pool were breathtaking and made us not want to leave. We went on a snorkelling trip to the garden reef and it was spectacular ! The coloured tropical fish and warm ocean made it an incredible experience. The fact it is an adults only resort, is perfect for those after a quiet , peaceful , restful and relaxing holiday. The massages at the spa were also great. The lovely staff members singing their welcome and farewell songs , crept into our hearts and we sincerely hope to return one day, What a magical resort .
