Wow, simply wow wow wow!

I’m here now and I genuinely do not know what to say about TIR …. It’s simply divine. The location is 10 out 10 but the people make it 11 out of 10. Fijians have to be the nicest people in the world? I just love Tony in the restaurant as he’s chilled off the planet and the chef, well he’s so happy. What chef remembers your names and comes and sees you every day!!! Also Ben of local seaway adventures , our tour private tour guide, took us to places you just never see on a normal planned excursion.

STUNNING! Staff, great. Pools, great. Activities, great. Rooms, great. Amenities, great. The staff are incredibly welcoming and hospitable, everything is clean and as someone who has a gluten and dairy intolerance, they were very accommodating and understanding. There's plenty of activities to do, other places to visit, while being remote enough that there wasn't the hustle and bustle of the main island.

Dreadful experience....

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We had to make a last minute booking for 2 nights, for which we were being charged US1k per night. We arrived by dinghy at 4pm, soaking wet as was raining heavily. Filled in the necessary details and then left waiting, in wringing wet clothes, for over 45 minutes whilst room "was being prepared". Check in is at 2pm??? Eventually, we were taken to our room - a garden sanctuary bure, quite basic inside but otherwise ok. Got showered and ready for dinner, realised the air con had error code and not functioning. Informed front desk on way to dinner of broken air con, and was told they will go and check. Went back to room to find all the ceiling fans were on (and very noisy) and aircon not functioning. Husband went to ask again at reception what the situation was and was told it was broken and was offered fjd$250 ($113.00 US) discount!!! Said we would like aircon as thats what we are meant to have, the fans are way too noisy and only work on full or off. Husband asked if other rooms were available and was told nothing else available as all fully sold out. He came back, updated me and I went on booking.com and it showed me a ocean view bure at exactly the same price we had paid showing available. Husband went back to reception and said to the deputy manager that you have just told me no rooms were available, but i am seeing this room available and its letting me book. The deputy manager agreed that the room was available but he had to get permission to get it released. My husband said he didnt appreciate lies, that we are being charged a premium room rate for a room that doesnt have working aircon, you have another room but lied and said no availability. Eventually, we got permission to move to new room. Well, this room had used bathrobes stuffed in wardrobe, coffee mug ring stains on sink and no toilet paper!! The 2 rooms we saw, i wouldnt pay us $400 a night for as both basic, minimal furnishings, cheap old bed linen. The next morning, we asked to speak to the general manager. Kept getting told he/she not around but coming to resort shortly. Eventually decided that the GM either wasnt around or didnt want to speak to us. Relayed the whole story of arriving after checkin time and being made to sit in wringing wet clothes for 45 minutes, air con not working, being lied to then being offered a room that clearly had not being cleaned to another deputy manager. We asked for a substantial discount, as knew that typical price is about 400us a night (other guests had told us what they paid) .They would only offer us 30% discount. Our 2 days there, for the money, was dreadful. Not once did we get an apology, we were almost treated like outcasts. The hotel's standards are below average - for example, during turndown, literally only the bedding was turned down. Used coffee cups were not cleaned/replaced, wet towels left hanging in same place, water not refilled and 2nd night, our door was even left open!! Absolutely dreadful service from a hotel selling rooms at that price. For the next 2 nights, we went to Likuliku resort - that was also US$1k a night, but what a HUGE difference and included all meals. The quality of food at Tropica was also average and nothing to write home about. Overall, a miserable experience, in a very average hotel with staff that need to understand better how hospitality and customer service works .
