Best Hotel Experience in Mammoth Village

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We spent our Labor Day weekend with the Limelight team. From check in to check out, our experience couldn't have gone any better. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet prior to mountain biking at the resort. In the afternoon we enjoyed the Hot Tubs prior to dinner at Vulcania in the Village.

Great!!

We stayed part of our time at an AirBnb in Mammoth and part at Limelight. Next time we’ll only go to Limelight. The staff helped us when we had to move our reservation last minute and made it seamless when our backpacking trip ended early. The bar and food was excellent, and awesome free breakfast. We can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful new hotel, but we never felt welcomed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed at Limelight Mammoth for two nights for a birthday celebration, spending around $1,000. I travel frequently for work and leisure and regularly stay at upscale/luxury properties. I was excited Mammoth finally had a newer high-end hotel and, since I plan to return regularly during snowboard season, hoped Limelight could become my go-to property. Unfortunately, I left questioning whether I’d ever return. Our check-in was incredibly cold and transactional. There was no greeting or welcome; I actually had to ask the agent if she was available to check us in. She took my ID and card, several minutes passed, and essentially the next thing handed to me was our keys and room number. No acknowledgment of the birthday. No explanation of our room, property, restaurant hours, amenities, gym, or where anything was located. Our American Express booking benefits weren’t explained either. We called downstairs because the interaction felt so strange. We were told there was no manager working, some staff were new, and notes would be left for management. The next morning I spoke with front desk manager Kennedy. Before explaining everything again, I specifically asked what notes had been left. She told me essentially all she knew was that our Amex benefits hadn’t been explained—which wasn’t remotely the concern we raised. As I explained what happened, Kennedy then began adding details and saying she had “heard differently” about parts of our interaction. That felt disingenuous considering moments earlier I’d been given the impression the Amex issue was essentially all she knew. The conversation felt more focused on defending what happened than understanding why we felt unwelcome. Still, I gave the hotel an opportunity to make it right. Kennedy said a director would contact me. No one did. At checkout, Kennedy asked if he’d reached out. I said no. She apologized and said he should contact me later that day. Again, no one did. It’s now been about a month. I intentionally waited before reviewing the hotel because I wanted to give Limelight every opportunity to follow through. I’ve heard nothing. That’s what turned a poor check-in into an extremely negative impression. Mistakes happen, and new hotels have growing pains. What I can’t understand is raising an issue while still at the property, speaking directly with management, being promised follow-up multiple times, and receiving none. The restaurant staff were genuinely pleasant and there were individual employees who treated us perfectly fine, but overall I never felt particularly welcomed. I’ll also candidly share something that has stuck with me: the experience left me wondering whether I simply wasn’t the demographic this hotel expected or wanted. I cannot know why I was treated the way I was, and I’m not claiming that I do. But when a hotel leaves a guest questioning whether their business is wanted, something has gone seriously wrong. We came to Mammoth after summiting Half Dome, excited to relax and celebrate a birthday. Instead, I left feeling like my money was accepted without much appreciation for my business. Maybe our experience was an anomaly, and I hope other guests are treated differently. I didn’t come to Limelight looking for a one-time stay—I hoped to find the hotel I’d return to throughout winter. Beautiful facilities only go so far. Hospitality is ultimately about how you make people feel, and Limelight Mammoth made me feel like my business wasn’t wanted.

Healthy and helpful

Great stay. Clean. Healthy breakfast with lots of fresh fruit. I loved the fitness center with free weights and a real bench press. The hotel has a driver who went beyond expectations, helping my 90-year-old mother get where we wanted to go.
