It was OK... on the lower end compared to other 4 stars we've been to. The view out to sea was nice and the staff were friendly enough, not overbearing. Food was nice too with decent variety. However, drinks were a bit overpriced compared to places in town, even during happy hour(s). They had a 50% discount at the SPA so we did a 70min couples treatment and chocolate therapy (covered head-to-toe in chocolate), which was a new experience and enjoyable. It's not easily walkable into Manuel Antonio or to many restaurants. The beach is a 300m walk down, not particularly "By The Beach". We had a Studio Suite Ocean View which was quite outdated and some fixtures were lose, but clean overall. You can hear neighbouring rooms and noise from the corridors quite clearly.

The bigger rooms on higher floors get 5 stars from us. The smaller rooms on lower 2 floors are simpler even if they are called suites. The honeymoon suite on the top floor was worth the extra cost. The beach is nice but is crowded at high tide so plan accordingly. The manager was very attentive when we switched rooms and Kevin was pleasant and helpful as he drove the golf cart up and down the steep hill all day - always ready to stop and help with a smile. We ask of other guests: please do not feed the monkeys! It is starting to affect their blood sugar and the staff has a hard time chasing them away to protect them when the guests think it's cute to give them food.

We just recently stayed at Shana by the Beach for 5 nights with our 3-year old twins and 5 year-old. Our stay was incredible, and we definitely plan on returning. Jairo and all of the staff were lovely and so accommodating to our oftentimes rowdy crew. The family pool was great for us to relax and not feeling like we were disturbing other guests (there is an adult only pool as well!). My kids LOVED sitting at the pool and viewing all the wild life--we saw tons of monkeys, toucans, and macaws all from the pool area! The private beach was gorgeous, and our little ones managed the hike down and back up without any issues. If you are kid free or looking to travel with your family, I would highly recommend Shana by the Beach! Thank you to the whole staff for such an incredible experience!

Fantastic staff. Javier in the restaurant is outstanding in both service and friendliness. Comfortable room. Good breakfast. Adult pool. Disadvantages were no view just jungle outside the balcony. The distance to the beach is long. There are much better beaches on the other side of the peninsula. Like playa playitas to where you can walk.
