Barcelo Karmina

The Barceló Karmina was a very relaxed vacation for us. The hotel is quite the design feat- very grand lobby and nicely kept grounds. The rooms feel a bit worn and dated- glad to see they updated bathrooms with glass doors for the toilet area. The staff were great- very friendly, helpful, always attentive and very welcoming. The hotel is spotless and our room was well stocked and refreshed daily. The highlights- so many families from Colima and from across Mexico- visiting and enjoying. The beds were great and towels in the bathroom were a very generous size. The location of our room was facing towards Centro Manzanillo which was cool in the afternoon and great at night with waves and great views. The adult pool was our favourite pool. My other comments below about the challenges re: pools. Agave was by far our favourite restaurant which was fantastic Mexican food- great breeze and beautiful setting. Breakfast at Capri is great- open air and lots of selection. We had a premier level room and we used the lounge often- for coffee and snacks, as well as check-in and check-out. Lounge staff were wonderful. Pool service was so amazing- we were fully prepared to get our own drinks but the service was lovely, accurate and very friendly. The loungers around the pool were always set up for the day- I watched them switch out umbrellas with bird dripping and lots of sweeping the pool decks. Not having food by the pools is such a good idea- the pool areas are well maintained. A few challenges- we found lunch options were lacking unless we resorted to room service. The bigger pools tended to have very loud “speaker engagement” with games and frankly yelling. It was head-spinning. The Japanese restaurant Kyoto was lacklustre. We had smokers around our room which made having time on our balcony a no go or keeping our sliding doors open not possible while there were smokers next door to us. Finally, getting a restaurant reservation was easier at first then it got a bit more convoluted as the days went on- you had to go here at this time, no now we have systems issues, we can’t book anything right now because we are opening up new reservations- oh those reservations are now full. We even were challenged by the concierge if we really came to check and try to book when we said we did, and did my son relay the correct message to me as the parent. I found this to be very unprofessional as we were following instructions. I don’t think challenging someone’s truth is ever good in a service industry. We were polite and we were very aware of high demands on restaurants. If you are looking for a wide open beach- this is not your place, unless you are willing to do day trips to local beaches. The beach here is sheltered and very high use- this is fun but if you want walks and open beach space, this is not your beach. We did have a wedding one night which we didn’t hear at night at all. We also ordered Ubers without issues- the front gate was diligent and let Ubers up the drive.

Everything is great, the food, rooms and vibe. The people and service are too nice.
