With its tawny beaches and mountainous backdrop, Spainâ€(TM)s Costa del Sol is a classic holiday destination. Its natural resort environment is ideally suited to Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus, a relaxing beachfront sanctuary just a few kilometers from the historic center of Marbella. Colonial-style guest rooms and suites boast splendid views of the Mediterranean Sea, while gastronomy takes a front seat in a collection of exceptional restaurants, whose diversity ranges from an international rice bar to Italian and Basque cuisine.

We arrived late and tired and hungry, only to be cosseted, firstly by the lady receptionist who ushered us into the restaurant, whilst she booked us in. Following a wonderful meal, served promptly, we were taken to our room, which proved to be warm, well appointed and very comfortable. The holiday was a lovely break, made so much better by the hotel staff, who were, all, helpful, friendly and cheerful. We suspect some people might describe the hotel as 'tired', we prefer the term well used. The food is exceptional, particularly the breakfasts, which we took two hours, each day, to appreciate. Fresh fruit, cereal, cold meats followed by a cooked breakfast, with eggs cooked to your preference, a selection of breads and cakes with our tea or coffee, topped off with a glass of cava to savour, whilst we relaxed afterwards. I would go back, tomorrow!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gran Guadalupin Banus. I was greeted by Juan at the front desk an he was my friend for the entire week. He and Anastasia assisted with restaurant recommendations and other local advice. The room was excellent and clean. It was spacious on the interior and had a generous outdoor patio of over 100 sq.ft. With stunning views of the pool and Mediterranean. Additionally, the room came with daily breakfast. I thought this might be some budget affair. I could not have been more wrong. The breakfast was delightful and a highlight of every morning. Attentive staff provided wonderful coffee, a full buffet with fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, pastries and cook to order egg option. The female chef cooked a wonderful omelette for me every morning. If I were to return to Marbella, I would book myself at the Gran Guadalupin Banus in a heart beat. The service was wonderful and the location was excellent. Thank you to all of the staff that served me so well!

I don't know exactly what are the standards in Spain for a hotel to be considered a 5 star hotel, but I am disappointed. As a 5 star hotel you would expect that you'll have at least a USB socket in the room( as you don't need to carry adaptors every time you travel, especially if you're from UK or non European individual), the cleaning in the rooms is desirable ( just a quick wash on the floor and superficial dusting) , my sheets were dirty of makeup, and when I accessed the room , the bed it was done just for 75%. The value box in the room it is created in a way to charge you, as you'll need to use your credit card( in my case , I'm debt free and I don't want to have access to credit cards and it doesn't specify how much you'll be charged, and in this case, I've been exposed to not having a secure place for my documents, also it's the first time when I'm being asked for a credit card at the reception, in case that damages occurred ( even if I'm pretty sure that the booking was already insured. When they replenish the free coffee, they checked the fridge to see if something is missing, probably because of my normal social status, being afraid that I'll drink everything and leave without pay. Worst experience ever for the price paid and I hope love holidays will reduce the category of the hotel from 5 stars to 3 stars. I can't upload videos as well, just pictures.
