I am sorry to say that our stay at Borgo dei Conti was not a five star experience and I cannot in good faith recommend that others stay here. We come to Italy annually, and stay at both incredibly high end hotels and fairly budget hotels, and this was the most disappointing I’ve experienced in my many trips. I’ll start with the positives - our welcome was delightful, the front desk people were all very kind and friendly, additionally Francesco the manager was very nice, helpful, and receptive to the feedback I ultimately gave on our final evening. The property itself is a show stopper - incredible grounds and buildings, though the general area around the hotel is very industrial, where they have to plant huge trees around the exterior to block the nuclear power plant from view. The fine dining restaurant was very nice and a good experience, but it cost more than any of the other meals we ate in Italy - including Michelin meals in the Amalfi Coast. To say the service was bad would be an under statement - we felt like we were a nuisance to the staff and that we were in the way during our entire stay. The temperatures soared to over 100 degrees for the 4 days we were there, and the pool staff didn’t provide complimentary water and instead charged 5 euros per can of water after we had to go out of the way to ask for it - they didn’t even want to help us. One day we spent 8 hours by the pool and no one proactively took our orders, we instead had to walk to the bar to order (when two staff were sitting on their phones at the entry gate the whole time). The property boasts a pretty impressive pizza oven, and while we dined at the restaurant where the pizza was served, we were never given the pizza menu or told we could order pizza at all. When we ate at the aforementioned restaurant, it took over an hour to get a glass of wine after repeatedly asking. I think the worst part of the hotel was the breakfast - they advertise that they have a breakfast buffet but they do not. They have jam and granola on a buffet like table, but you have to order everything from the table. Service was so slow that breakfast took at minimum an hour each day, with no organization and up to 5 people serving us any given day. For Borgo dei Conti calling itself a 5 star hotel, we did not get even a 3 star experience. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, especially for the exorbitant price you pay to stay there.

This property has been exquisitely restored and has the most stunning views. The staff morning noon tonight worked very hard and are very accommodating to their guests. The food at both the poolside Grill and the restaurant are outstanding, and the breakfast is not to be missed. The renovations were done with care and charm, and the whole experience is worth the trip.

My wife and I have been staying at borgo dei conti for two weeks. We regularly stay in 5 star exclusive hotels, but none of them has ever positively impressed us like Il borgo dei conti. Everything here is simply EXCEPTIONAL, from the stunning beauty of this medioeval castle, superbly refurbished, and the cosy and elegant rooms, to the impeccable service and customer care ( everyone is so kind and responsive and makes you feel truly special ), to the deliciousness of the food, so genuine, fresh and tasty and amazingly presented, to the vicedirector Francesco, who is constantly on his feet, making sure everything runs smoothly and entertaining guests with his kind manners and humour. We have no doubt we’ll be back every year. To everyone who wishes to experience an authentic italian holiday encompassing the best that a 5 star place can offer, I will definitely recommend you il borgo dei conti!

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst touring Tuscany. The property is breathtakingly beautiful, approached by a long driveway up to an impressive main building (the resort comprises of several buildings). The welcome was warm, with a tour of the relevant aspects of the property, and a lot of information that is hard to remember - at least it was for us (in our sixties). There is nothing written down … more on this later. The rooms are generously sized with a modern decor. We booked an executive room and were upgraded to a “junior suite”. The room had no seats, except for a singe armchair on an upper level, making it difficult to sit and talk together in the room. There is a massive amount of storage, and everything worked well (no problems with air con for us). We decided to have an aperitif in the bar before dining, but after 15 minutes they still had not brought the wine! I had to go and ask to be served! There was some issue with the wine we chose, but they should have told us right away. Later we asked for some printed information about the hotel and its facilities, and were told there is a QR code to scan in the room. After dinner we searched in vain for this QR code, went down to reception to ask for it, and were then given a print out in Italian! Later on they brought the menus and wine lists from the two restaurants to our room as well! It was all a little odd - why not just display the code on the screen in reception and let us scan it? Dinner was excellent. We dined in the more informal restaurant above the pool, and the food and service were ver good, especially the sommelier, who helped us choose an excellent wine to accompany the meal. This property is very beautiful, the pool area is excellent, the rooms are well equipped and the restaurant is excellent (we did not dine in the Michelin starred one). However, the service, and the approach to service did not quite match the setting. There was a general lack of presence - we had breakfast at 7am when the service starts, but had to find someone to come and serve us! This could/should be a 5 star visit, but even though the manager gave us a handwritten apology (and a jar of honey from their local apiary) as an apology for the poor service, I can still only give 4 stars.

What can I say about the location. You enter through an arch, and follow a driveway that takes you to the main house. Great touch of class and beauty. The main building is authentic to the storied life it has had, with updates bringing in the modern amenities necessary in today’s hospitality. We were there for lunch, so let’s talk about that. The service is courteous and friendly, with everyone in period attire, adding a great level of authenticity to the atmosphere. The lunch menu had a great selection, including vegetarian options. Special shout out to the homemade bread mix, which was delicious. My wife had a mixed salad and the vegetarian pasta, which were both excellent. I had the cheese selection, local and very tasty, and the borgo burger, which was massive and full of flavors. We finished it off with the tiramisu and baba’, both just as great as everything else we had. Overall a great dining experience, from every aspect. The tour after lunch was an excellent touch, which we both appreciated very much. Bottom line: if you are looking for a dining experience, then you won’t regret choosing this wonderful location.
