Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

Beautiful hotel, breathtaking surrounding. Everywhere green colour. Reception: Warm welcome, hiccups with check in, but problem was sort out immediately. (Wrong room). Smooth check out. Housekeeping: excellent service. Best and beyond. Restaurants: expected higher level. Spa: improve better communication with hotel quests and reception. Confusion with bookings. Golf: amazing, great time. I will recommend anytime this beautiful hotel. I hope I will come back next year.

This was one of my best hotel experiences. From the moment we arrived to when we left nothing could be improved on! The staff were to a person friendly and hugely helpful. Little touches, like the night porter offering bottles of water as we headed to bed and the doorman telling us about all the wildlife on the estate, were particularly special! Food and drinks were excellent... Breakfast was just super... I love having my hot breakfast plated to order and not having to queue up... We stayed two nights for a wedding and the wedding was magical.. I can only hope we get invited to another one there!! I hope to be back either way

Recently enjoyed a lovely coffee morning at Carton House with my friend who was visiting from USA. We were lucky and delighted to have been served by Anna in Kathleen’s Kitchen. Coffee and pasties were excellent and Anna was friendly, kind and professional and in between taking our order and serving us, she even managed to give my friend a quick overview of Carton’s wonderful history. We were very impressed!

Stayed here for two nights, in past few days. Having stayed here previously, was expecting high standards in terms of service etc. There was a hiccup on the second evening, in terms of our efforts to obtain food. We were eating food in the bar, which had been delivered by room service. We had just finished eating when we were approached by a lady who said she a member of the management staff, and launched a verbal tirade, berating us for eating in an area where eating was not allowed. Her anger was pretty pointless, as that stage, as the food had all been consumed. Ther was no mess made & the tidy up for staff was far easier than if the food was consumed in all our rooms (seven sooms in total). She demanded the room number of the person who had ordered the food, in a manner which seemed to suggest some kind of implied threat. We had earlier tried to access the dining room, but were told that we could not be accomodated. Earlier in the day we had hosted a lunch for a large party, at a cost of approximately 2,000 euro. Notwithstanding the above, I might not have taken to trip adviser to complain, except for an incident that occurred at breakfast the next morning. At breakfast I ordered tea, and a young male member of staff, came to the table, with a cup of tea clutched firmly in his hand, and his fingers and thumb down the top part of the cup sides, no saucer to be seen. I was so astonished at this behaviour, that I was utterly lost for words. When I complained to another staff member, he seemed to have difficulty in understanding what the problem was but did bring me another tea, this time including a saucer. I would expect better knowledge of basic food hygiene standards, and service standards in a cheap cafe.

I stayed with my son in July this year for a long weekend to play golf. I had stayed here on a few occasions previously and was disappointed with some of our experiences on this occasion: Check In - when we arrived at reception there were two receptionists at the desks and one was attending to a customer whilst the other was not. We stood around for 10 minutes or so before being asked by the receptionist who was busy to take a seat. We then were surprised to see guests arriving and being attended to by the other receptionist ahead of us. In total it took approximately 45 mins following our arrival to get to our room. Carriage House - following our first round of golf we went to the Carriage House for some food and took seats at the bar. Despite there being 4 staff behind the bar we were not attended to for 10 minutes. When our food was served we were not provided with cutlery or condiments. We then ordered desert and were waiting for 25 minutes before it was served having had to ask twice. The following day we again went here for food and while the service and attention was better I ordered fish and chips from the menu which was priced at €28 - I was served one small piece of fish which would fit in the palm of your hand and no peas or tartare sauce. Hotel Bar - again we took our seats in this area and while there appeared to be plenty of staff working nobody came to our table and we eventually had to go to the counter to be told to return to our seats and someone would be with us !! The overall experience was significantly less positive than my previous stays and for the prices being levied one would have to question the value for money.
