Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

Dreadful experience for a one night stay. From check in where the person at reception desk was too busy cleaning out drawers at her desk to deal with me, I then had to wait whilst she went to the bin , and into another room to get more supplies!!! Lunch was a nightmare. We waited so long for service to get a menu, another long wait ( in fact I had to go to the bar and ask for someone to come take our order). Our lunch came out but we had no cutlery, plates, serviettes, water, in other words our table was not dressed for lunch. Room was cold, bar areas freezing we had ta ask several times for air con to be turned up. TVs in both rooms not working. Service in bar after dinner was very slow and it was not busy it was a Sunday night. Breakfast next morning was dreadful, streaky rashers burned to bits, I asked for ketchup ( still waiting). I asked for butter ( still waiting)Plus it was miles away from our bedrooms and you had to go outside and across a courtyard to get to the restaurant. I spoke with manager and she waved our bar bill from previous night and offered us “a privileged price on our return visit”As you can imagine we will not be returning.

We had a fabulous Christmas dinner in the Carriage House with menu choices and drink choices to suit all age groups - including the best mocktails the younger girls ever had - (their words) Service was fantastic and friendly with everyone feeling valued and very happy with the overall experience. The Christmas shop was a delight to explore with very good value in chutneys, sauces, Christmas puddings etc. The Carton Granola ( also sold in the shop) is the best I’ve ever tasted!

I recently enjoyed a solo stay at this lovely property and was impressed by many aspects of the experience, especially the hotel’s warm atmosphere, comfortable rooms, and the genuine moments of hospitality! The hotel itself is beautiful and welcoming, the stunning grounds as you drive in… Wow! Check-in was smooth and efficient and the scent throughout the public areas is one for me to remember for a long time! My room was spotless, comfortable, and very well presented. I loved the thoughtful welcome amenity, and as a solo traveller it was a lovely space to unwind. The bathroom was clean and equipped with everything I expected. I spent some time in the Courtyard bar lounge where Annabel looked after me with efficiency and professionalism. Drinks and menus arrived promptly, and service was seamless throughout. It’s a lovely place to relax for a pre-dinner drink and for me to catch up on emails! Dinner at the Carriage House was a highlight thanks to the wonderful host at the door, who greeted me warmly and set a fantastic tone for the evening. Food was excellent beautifully presented and served efficiently in a stunning surrounding – I love the setting and the courtyard across from the main hotel building. Breakfast offered a wide selection in Kathleen’s Kitchen, and the team worked hard to keep things moving during a busy morning in a very quirky breakfast setup and offering. Checkout was straightforward. I particularly appreciated the concierge who offered assistance with my luggage (always on the road, so never travel light!) as well as the doorman who added a genuinely warm and friendly farewell, such a lovely way to end the stay. I look forward to a return visit to enjoy this wonderful property!

Communal areas and bedroom was cold. Had to get a heater for the room Service was poor -slow to get drinks and slow at breakfast. The spa is more like a council swimming pool- jacuzzi had lots of foam in it though the steam room was excellent. Some staff were pleasant but most were disinterested - not what you’d expect in a five star resort. For the price paid I expected a lot more and I won’t be back.

Hi when we arrived ,The lobby was very cold ,the room was freezing no heat on. Came back down to the bar and was charged €42 for 2 americanos and 2 Irish coffees. The room was changed but was v cold they gave us a blow heater .. Breakfast was about 500 mts away down a cold corridor across a yard ..the restaurant was very badly set up food in different locations… 5 star price for the evening meal ..I thought it was v poor standard.overall Staff were lovely it’s a nice place but the ambience and prices are crazy ..not going back .
