Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

We have just left after an excellent 2 night family break and we are very sad to leave. The hotel and its grounds are absolutely gorgeous. We walked the 3km red trail on the estate which was picturesque, next time we will walk the 6km yellow trail and also take out the bicycles - we didn’t have enough time to do everything! The hotel itself if very relaxed, all staff we encountered were excellent, attentive but the atmosphere does not feel stuffy. A few staff I should mention are Abraham at breakfast, Jiyan at the golf club and a blonde young man serving us in The Carriage House, all deserve praise. I would not describe the hotel as a “family” hotel but my children were made feel very welcome and there was plenty to keep them amused, the swimming pool, a kids play room, putting green and a little quiz about the estate that they really enjoyed. We had breakfast at the hotel, the cooked food to order was excellent but maybe a greater selection of continental would be welcome. We had 2 very good meals in The Carriage House restaurant. We stayed in a Deluxe Double Double with Balcony and it was very comfortable, impeccably clean. We had a maintenance issue which we phoned reception about before we went to breakfast and it had been rectified by the time we returned. We had no noise outside our room whatsoever and enjoyed good nights sleep. The only criticisms we would have are that the gates between the balconies have not been maintained and some are hanging off. Please upgrade the Spotify account to ad free - especially if this is going to play during breakfast service. We also had welcome drinks to use as part of our membership, however were told by 2 separate staff that this did not include cocktails, whereas the T&C’s clearly state it does. These are only minor things and did not spoil our stay, we will definitely return soon, either as a couple or as a family. Fabulous!

What a beautiful hotel with lovely staff. The rooms were luxurious the restaurants and bar were superb! The grounds were magnificent.

Poor experience here, stayed here with our 15 month old daughter - I would not recommend other parents stay here. Constant delays, difficulties getting a high chair anytime we need it, a total lack of communication and generally a feeling that all basic requests will be denied or you'll be told no problem and then it never happens. A basic example, one of the mornings we were having breakfast, we asked for a couple of strawberries for our daughter as we saw them coming out with other dishes like pancakes and French toast, but we were told there were no strawberries (as a dish with strawberries was set down on the table beside us). One other example, before we arrived we had requested a high chair for our room, it wasn't until halfway through our stay we managed to get the high chair in the end, after constant requests, visiting reception, and making it clear this was something we really needed. Generally just an inconsistent experience - if this was priced like a holiday inn it would have been fine, but at the price point Carton House charges its unacceptable. We also decided to go for the picnic experience, after large delays we did eventually manage to get it, to then find there had been a miscommunication and we didn't get half the things on the picnic menu. It was too late however at that point as we needed to get our daughter down to nap, so again we just had to accept our fate. We did however pay full price despite the mix up! Two positive note I will give, the rooms were quite nice, and the restaurants on site are quite good, but again very inconsistent service. It is clear that Carton House is entirely focused around golf, something that wasn't clear to us before we went. When we arrived there was a major golf tournament on meaning that all the restaurants on site were unavailable to guests and we were unable to walk anywhere. If you are an avid golfer Carton House isn't a bad choice, but for anyone else and especially families I would not recommend, we definitely will never return.

Wonderful and exquisite property . Very well managed and executed brilliantly. Rooms are spacious, especially the newer ones The front desk and bell people are very well trained and highly professional The only negative is the staff in the restaurants. They need to catch up to the level that everyone else executes at They are not at that level yet. Slow and inattentive at times. Not good in that regard . One word of advice is that even in high end hotels throughout Europe, they will have coffee machines available during breakfast . Just a thought. Once again, beautiful property and well managed.

Our recent stay at carton house was quite disappointing in certain parts for a five star hotel, we were very lucky to have gotten a beautiful weekend to venture along the breathtaking grounds however service at the hotel was a major disappointment. We were brought to the garden terrace where we could order drinks and bites to eat however we were left waiting for an extended period without menus so we decided to go to the bar ourselves where we were rudely told by the bar staff to sit down and someone would be with us shortly which was extremely surprising. Our evening meal was booked for the carriage house restaurant, upon arrival we were first given the wrong menus and also given a drinks menu with no contents in it, there seemed to be major confusion between staff in regards to sitting arrangements and menus, after receiving the proper menus for dinner we where very disappointed as they were not the menus available on the official website of the hotel, we where then told there was no prosecco available on site along with no 7up or Lucozade, unfortunately I know this is not any fault of the waiting staff however in my own opinion coming from a family of caterers and understanding the standards that have to be met this was not the standards of a five star hotel. Overall I would like to say the catering service throughout the hotel was a major let down which is a massive shame as the amenities and grounds are outstandingly Beautiful.
