Bit old

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Hotel is a great location in the CBD within easy walking distance of the free tram in Melbourne. Lobby is spacious and clean. The rooms are ok but clearly tired looking. We found dust on the switches and corners. The hotel is probably due for a renovation.

Lovely hotel but a few refinements to make it feel truly 5 star

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Was overall a lovely experience and I would stay there again. It's an old hotel but the only part that seemed dated was the pool area. It was very clean and quiet, and in a very good location right next to Flinders' St station. Staff were mostly absolutely fabulous. I did experience some things that fall short of a 5-star experience, which are unfortunately quite common as a relatively young female traveling solo. Firstly, I was completely ignored but the concierge staff at the vehicle drop-off area. They watched me struggle with a large suitcase, and nobody offered to take my bags - I had to ask at the desk in the lower lobby before anyone took them to my room. The check in and main lobby staff were fabulous and moved me to a quieter room with lots of natural light when I explained I was there for a work-related examination in a few days' time. There were also no sanitary disposal products in the room which was somewhat embarrassing when I was caught without so much as a bin liner. Finally, I booked my room under my title, which is 'Dr'. Never once (including in email correspondence from the concierge service) was I referred to by my title and surname. If asked, I would have said to call me by my first name but this irked me as I am sure that if I were either older or male they would have used my title. Overall a lovely stay and I would definitely stay there again.

5 star Melbourne luxury

World class hotel in the heart of Melbourne. Amazing ambience, rooms, food and service. We felt welcome and cared for from the minute we arrived. A stay to remember.

It was okay but could be better, needs updating

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

First time staying at a Grand Hyatt after hearing some good recommendations but it didn't live up to expectations. The best part was probably the breakfast, one of the best I've had in Australia for hotel stays. The let downs unfortunately were numerous. 1. Upon check in I was advised check out was 11.00am, I had already confirmed when booking for late check out for 1.00pm which was on the booking 2. No doorman, I thought this was a 5 star hotel?!?! This did not make you feel valued walking into a 5 star hotel and did not create a good atmosphere. Although the gentlemen where you drop off your vehicle for valet was very friendly and greeted you with enthusiasm each time you saw him 3. The pool was straight from the 80's or the playboy grotto. It was not maintained at all, it was clear why there was no one else was in there. The water line you can see the tiles are all stained and as soon as I realised the state of the pool got out. The pool firstly needs to be deep cleaned including surrounding areas and also it is overdue for renovation 4. The room was good but the speaker in the room had static the entire time we were there which disrupted our sleep. The window was also very dirty and not cleaned. 5. There was also a lot of plumbing noise in the room which kept us up. You can hear when someone is in the shower with water running or flushing the toilet! The only other good thing is the location of the hotel close to the sports precint. I would be open to staying again for future sporting events and hopefully the service and facilities is improved by then.

Underwhelming and partly disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne for our 15th Wedding Anniversary. There were only two areas that we were disappointed with and they were relatively major. 1. The spa bath that we paid extra for has hot and cold taps that basically didn't work. The cold came out hot for multiple minutes which made it very difficult to get the right temperature. We filled up buckets of cold water from the shower to reduce the heat after my wife nearly burnt her feet! 2. The king bed is in castor wheels that don't lock. I've never experienced this in a hotel and it made the bed uncomfortable. All other parts of our stay was amazing and the breakfast delicious and an enjoyable experience. Location was perfect. But those two notes above will mean we won't choose the Grand Hyatt again in a rush.
