Overall it's a good stay, and can't find major faults here..The standard seem to dropped slightly due to short of staff, and I was stuck in lift for a few mins due to a lift system failure. Otherwise a good stay, good food and great location for the hotel. Normally this is my go to hotel in Melbourne, but this recent stay makes me want to reconsider other hotels too.

We had a view of the Yarra River n it was stunning. The rooms are a great size. If you're in need of a bathtub, this is the place for you. The buffet breakfast was outstanding and the staff catered to all of our needs. My only complaint is paying at the end of a dinner meal was a bit cumbersome

Excellent staff and well positioned in heart of Melbourne for shopping, theatre, restaurants and excellent tram system. Couldn’t fault the food, room, concierge, housekeeping, bar and excellent dining facilities. We stayed 5 days and felt very welcome, particular thanks to Jimmy, Carla & Ilaria, Elisa and Thu

The Grand Hyatt was excellent for a weekend stay. We enjoyed a drink in the bar and breakfast has everything. The rooms are a great size, very comfortable and quiet. We had a corner room with a view over Collins St. The staff are very friendly and are there to attend to your every need.

We stayed in King Bed River view room 3114 with club access. Check in at the lobby was quick and efficient and our room was ready at 12 pm. Note that an additional $100 security charge is authorised and then removed upon check out. Our room was already made up with a rollaway bed for our teenage son without us having to remind housekeeping. As you enter the room you are drawn to the huge window which looks out onto Richmond station and Alexandra gardens and the bay in the distance. To the left we could see the Dandenong ranges in the distance and to the right the south bank district. At night, you get a great view of the Crown Towers gas brigades display that occurs hourly from 8 or 9 pm till midnight. The bathroom has a separate shower and bath and is marble throughout. However, some areas of the bathroom are starting to show its age and in need of a refurbishment. The Balmain Paris toiletries came in large pump bottles and were lovely to use. We forgot our toothpaste and were thankful for the amenities kit provided. The king bed and the rollaway beds were comfy but the pillows were softer than we were used to. The top of the alarm clock comes with a handy wireless charger and there are two USB-A charging ports next to one side of the bed to keep our devices charged. The small desk also has a WAN network access point for those who need it. Wi-Fi was fast throughout the room and in the club lounge. With a rollaway bed in the room, there wasn't much space left but as we were out and about during our stay this wasn't a huge issue for us. The television had local terrestrial channels and the common world news channels though we noticed BBC World was missing. Unfortunately we were unable to get the Chromecast working during our stay. The cupboard had robes, slippers and sensors for lights that turn when you open the doors or walk pass the closed doors at night. The mini bar, assorted snacks and the kettle are located under the television. A Nespresso machine and coffee pods were also provided. We downloaded the Hyatt application onto our iPhone hoping to try out the digital key feature where by you can use your phone to enter the room and other areas of the hotel. Unfortunately it didn't work and the app was "preparing our digital key" for the whole of our stay. Check out at the lobby took a bit longer as we checked out at the official time of 11 and we weren't sure if we could check out from the club lounge. The executive club lounge was just around the corner from our room and directly in front of the lifts. To the left as you enter is where the day time snacks are located along with tables and couches, a big tv and at the end, a board room. To the right as you enter is the main dining area with benches for food, drinks cabinet and a fire place at the very end. During the day the benches are bare but the drink cabinet is well stocked with Coke, Capi branded sodas (blood orange, lemonade, ginger ale, tonic water), a variety of T2 teas, a Nespresso machine and water dispenser (still and sparkling). The benches transform into a nice spread of food during evening canapes and breakfast. The lounge stretches the length of the hotel with floor to ceiling windows looking out towards the north side of the CBD such as Melbourne central. Tables line the windows and along the walls. There's also a desktop computer and a selection of newspapers. The club staff were friendly, welcoming and unobtrusive, clearing away the used dishes with polite enthusiasm. The only time we saw the lounge get busy was during the evening canapes but you can still find yourself a table. Day time snacks include pastries (pain au chocolate, almond croissant, Danishes and plain croissant); Capi sodas; coke; T2 teas; lollies; dried fruits; mixed nuts; veggie sticks (cucumber, carrots, celery, capsicum) and dips; fresh fruit (bananas, pears, apples). For evening canapes there was roast pork; fresh salad; Asian slaw; cured ocean trout; cold roast flat iron; jambon; hams; sausage rolls; quiches; wines; Turkish rolls; assorted hard and soft cheese and crackers; lemon honey log; salted caramel chocolate tart; raspberry mud cake. As we stayed only one night we're not sure if the menu changes each night. For breakfast, there was a selection of bread for toasting and Berenberg jams, assortment of soft and hard cheeses and wafers; sliced salami, turkey, smoked salmon; fresh salad and various dressings; cereals (Weetabix, rice bubbles special k, coco pops and muesli and condiments like toasted coconut, sunflower seeds, sultanas etc); hashbrowns; chicken sausages; bacon rashes; mushrooms; hard boiled eggs; juices (apple, orange, pineapple though not freshly squeezed), milk, Chobani yoghurts; pastries (pain au chocolate, almond croissant, Danishes and plain croissant); fresh fruit (pineapple, watermelon, honey dew). You can opt to have breakfast in Collins Kitchen for an extra $25 per person. During our stay we visited level 9 where a very well-equipped gym; a small lap pool and 2 Jacuzzis are located. Each male and female wet area has a large change area with lockers, showers, a wet sauna and a dry sauna (unfortunately no shared sauna areas). At the end of the pool area is a door that leads to a flight of stairs up to the tennis court. It's worth visiting the tennis courts to take some nice photos of the golden glass facade of the hotel. As it was our son's birthday we were provided with a lovely chocolate cake and a block of chocolates in our room, which was greatly appreciated. We celebrated our son's birthday in Collins Kitchen with some of his teenaged friends and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. A huge shout out to Snow Wai for handling all our requests for our birthday celebration including 2 delicious black forest cakes festooned with a birthday plaque and candle that was created the inhouse pastry chefs. All the staff went out of their way to ensure we all had a lovely time. Overall we had a lovely staycation and birthday celebration at the hotel and would definitely return.
