Grand Hyatt Melbourne

The Grand Hyatt at Melbourne, Australia exceeded all expectations. The morning buffet was first class and then some, the rooms were well appointed and the staff went out of their way to help us.

Grand Hyatt Melbourne Over the past 30 years I’ve organised regular corporate events at five star Melbourne Hotels. The Grand Hyatt Melbourne was always my favourite. I loved the experience of arriving at the hotel and having a drink in the bar. It felt luxurious and special. After a few days in the outback we decided to spoil ourselves with a night at Grand Hyatt. What a mistake! The place is so poorly run with waiters who don’t speak English let alone know anything about wine and a menu that is less than average. Service is confusion and if you expect to eat or have a drink after 9pm, forget it. The restaurant and bar close at 10pm and vibe is tired and old. Staff are busy chatting to each other and packing up early to leave. I had the worst whisky sour ever, served in the wrong glass. Honestly the outback pub was better.

We spent a night in the city while visiting friends and had a really lovely stay. The location is fantastic, close to everything we wanted to see and do. The hotel has a beautiful atmosphere, and having a room with views over the city made the stay even more enjoyable. Breakfast was included and was well above what you would normally expect from a standard hotel breakfast, with a great selection to choose from. We were very impressed, especially with the fresh juices. A wonderful stay and a hotel we would happily return to.

Great place, great service and a really great experience. Will definitely be a place I would stay again for a CBD staycation.

Our stay was extremely disappointing. The hotel had renovation works taking place during our visit, and the constant noise made it impossible to relax and enjoy our stay. Guests should be clearly informed of major works before booking, as this significantly affected our experience. Even more concerning was a serious safety issue in our room. When I switched on the bathroom light, it exploded, sending glass across the bathroom and leaving us without a working light. It was shocking, frightening, and could easily have resulted in an injury. This is not something any guest should have to experience in a hotel room. Although maintenance was eventually sent to fix the problem after we reported it, the fact that such a hazardous issue existed in the first place is unacceptable. Between the disruptive renovation noise and the dangerous condition of the bathroom light, our stay fell well below the standard we expected and paid for. Unfortunately, we left feeling frustrated and disappointed.
