Not Quite the Five-Star Experience I Remember

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I recently stayed at The Langham, Melbourne, for a trip that combined business and leisure. There were still several positives: the room was comfortable, breakfast and room service were both excellent, and the staff remained professional and attentive throughout. That said, the overall experience did not feel quite as polished as I remembered from previous stays. A few service and maintenance issues stood out, including the option to forgo housekeeping for a small credit, the apparent removal of evening turndown service, difficulties with the escalator and lifts, and long queues in the foyer due to tour group traffic. The restaurant was also not operating on the evenings we stayed. Overall, it was a pleasant stay in some respects, but the experience did not fully reflect what I would normally expect from a five-star hotel.

New pet policy disappointment

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We have always liked staying at the Langham hotel in Melbourne - until now. We were unaware that the Langham now allows pets to stay in the rooms with their owners, and we were not delighted to be woken up at night to a barking dog next door. This was not a minor annoyance, it prevented me from sleeping and ruined the entire luxury experience we had paid for. On reflection, we would have appreciated it if at check-in we were told that the room next door included a dog - then, at least we would have had the choice to either leave, or request a room away from a pet. On checking out, the front desk team acknowledged the issue and offered complimentary valet parking as compensation. Small compensation for a sleepless night's sleet. In an effort to speak to someone about our concerns, once home, I rang twice and emailed as well, however, the email went unanswered and I got the run-around with the phone calls .We are retirees, and it took us quite some time to save up for this stay, and the whole episode left us very disillusioned and disappointed.
