Outdated Hilton Paint Job – Lazy Service, Disgusting Breakfasts

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The Pan Pacific Hotel looks like it’s had better days. It’s obvious it was once a Hilton—it honestly feels like they just grabbed a few buckets of paint, painted over the Hilton logos, splashed a Pan Pacific logo on, moved some furniture around, and voilà, suddenly it’s Pan Pacific. The whole place is dated and tired looking and really needs work. Some rooms have amazing views, but the floor plans are awkward—very awkward. The staff is nice enough but lazy and disengaged. When I arrived, there was no valet, no one outside to greet me, no one to tell me where to put my car. I had to double park, run in, and ask. Parking itself is horrible—you have to park in the convention centre, which is a long walk and a total hassle. The hotel is also light years away from the CBD, making it a pain to get anywhere other than just around the South Bank shore. The CBD is at least 2 kilometers away from this place—do not be fooled by claims it’s “downtown.” If you need a taxi on a weekend night, good luck—the pickup area is jammed up in the convention centre turnaround and it’s a mess. Housekeeping was a nightmare. They barely did anything—just made the bed and tossed in a couple of towels. That would be fine if this was a roadside motel, but it’s supposed to be a 5-star hotel. Now for the food: The downstairs buffet breakfast is absolutely horrible. I’m talking disgusting, gross food that wouldn’t even meet 7-Eleven standards. Honestly, I’d rather eat Krispy Kreme, grab something from 7-Eleven, or even have McDonald’s than pay $50–$60 for their so-called buffet breakfast. It’s a joke. Upstairs in the club lounge, breakfast is slightly better, but even there, it needs major improvement. They seriously need to do better. I know Australia has this laissez-faire attitude toward service and food, but not everyone staying here is Australian. People expect true Western international standards—not these lazy, lazy, lazy, lazy ways. Overall, this is not a 5-star experience. You’re paying 5-star prices for 2-star service and quality.

Clean and spacious.

We stayed 6D5N in Pan Pacific Melbourne. Our room was clean and spacious. It also had the view of the Yarra River. Just next to the hotel was the outlet mall where we could easily shop and have a quick bite. Only a small downside was the hotel was not in the CBD area so whenever we wanted to travel to the CBD, we had to take a 5mins walk to the tram stop at the bridge and take the trams into the city. We realised we were spending a lot of time in the CBD area so probably in future we would get a hotel in the CBD area only. However still great service and accommodation :) Truly enjoyed our stay here.

Best view in Melbourne

This was our second visit to Pan Pacific on a Luxury Escape deal. It did not disappoint again. The room with a view of the Yarra and the City was absolutely beautiful. The staff have to be one of the most friendliest in Melbourne. We even recognised staff from our last stay which was 8 months ago. We had dinner in the restaurant which was great quality and service. The buffet breakfast was great and very busy but very easy to navigate. Sparkling wine on check-in in the foyer was a lovely bonus. Can't wait to stay there again.

Melbourne Experience

Stayed one night at Pan Pac Melbourne but could do more. I arrived late in the afternoon and was promptly checked into my room. Taxi costs about $50 using rideshare from Tullamarine. It is connected to both the convention Center and DFO. Avid shoppers may want to consider. As a perk from my membership, i was given a double upgrade to a 2-bedroom suite with club lounge access and free breakfast. What an experience! The rooms was so spacious and quality as expected from PP. The master room had a superb king bed with an ensuite while the twin room had another bathroom. The lounge and dining table made our stay so much more comfortable. For dinner, we headed downstairs to Dock 37. We ordered a kids pasta, curry barramundi and Fremantle octopus. All dishes were exquisite. They were generous with the pasta and the greens for the kids. The sauce for the barramundi was awesome. I really enjoyed the curry. For the octopus, i do feel like the sauce covered up the taste of the grill but still a great dish nonetheless. The dinner was great value for me with the benefits. Wife and i agreed that the food here was so much better than that at the vineyard we visited. Breakfast at the club lounge was a quiet affair. I was greeted by the front staff and coffee was served shortly after. The breakfast at club lounge were mostly western selection. Fantastic scrambled eggs, bacons and hash browns, with views to match. Love their seats too, very spacious. Unfortunately did not the canapes but hope to get a chance next time. Huge selection at Dock 37. I recall seeing porridge, fresh juice, ice cream, fried rice etc. feedback for improvement: 1. the bathroom is not heated and it does get really cold after my shower. Overall a great hotel. I would stay here again if i visit Melbourne. Thanks guys till next time.

Great hotel, close to everything.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I had a really nice stay at this hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful the whole time. The hotel was exceptionally clean too. The view from the room, premier king, was absolutely amazing. Looking over the Yarra into the City and Southbank. Definitely one of the best parts of the stay (along with the blackout blinds). And the location couldn’t be better—it’s really close to a bunch of shops and restaurants. That said, I’m not totally sure I’d call it a five-star hotel. It was great overall, but some of the little details, such as the wear on furniture and amenities didn’t quite match what I’d expect from a true five-star place. It may sound picky but things such as soft close toilet seats and doors (it was quite noisey from the corridor). Still, it was a really good experience.
