I stayed at Pan Pacific Melbourne for three nights while travelling for work, and overall I was extremely impressed. From the moment I arrived, the hotel felt upmarket, modern and polished. I was greeted by the valet/concierge at the front, who walked me through to reception, and check-in was quick and easy — I was in my room within about five minutes. First impressions were very strong. The room itself was much more spacious than I expected, with a large bed, big TV, desk, armchair, generous wardrobe space, and a large bathroom with a bath, separate shower area and enclosed toilet. My room had views to the northwest over the train lines, with a bit of the Yarra River visible, which gave it a nice Melbourne city feel. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were lovely, the air conditioning was effective and quiet, and there were plenty of power points throughout the room. My sleeps were excellent, thanks to the combination of the comfortable bed, lovely pillows and effective blockout blinds. Internet was also easy to access, with both wired and wireless options available through the hotel login portal. The in-room amenities were thoughtful and felt premium. There was a minibar with snacks and drinks, tea and coffee facilities, a safe, ironing board, robe, hairdryer, toothbrush and toothpaste, sanitary bag, shower cap, cotton tips, makeup wipe, nail file, and a sachet of bath salts by the bath. The bathroom products were Jo Loves, including shampoo, conditioner, shower/bath gel, hand wash and moisturiser, and they all smelt lovely. I did not use the onsite facilities, but I did note there is a well-appointed gym on the fourth floor. Cleanliness was very good. The room and bathroom both felt clean and well maintained. The only minor issues were that the headboard lighting was a bit touchy and flickered if the light fitting was not fully opened, the shower area was quite dark with a very dim downlight, and the office chair appeared to have a stain on it. Otherwise, everything felt clean, comfortable and premium. The location is one of the biggest strengths of the hotel. It is incredibly convenient for offices around the western end of Collins Street, and the surrounding area has excellent access to food, shopping and public transport. I mostly ate along the South Wharf promenade, including dinner at The General Assembly twice and Melbourne Public once. Both were affordable and very filling. I also went to the Woolworths just off Collins Street to pick up snacks and drinks, rather than using the minibar (personal preference). Service was excellent throughout. The arrival and check-in experience was smooth and professional, and the housekeeping staff were lovely. I chose not to have my room cleaned daily, and they were helpful and very understanding about that. The main downside was noise from the shared corridor. Door openings, door closings and people walking through the hallway were quite noticeable from inside the room. I would have liked the room door or hallway soundproofing to be a little better so the room felt more private and insulated. That said, it did not stop me from sleeping well once I was settled in. The room lighting was also a personal preference issue — there were not many overhead lights outside the bathroom, and the room relied heavily on wall lighting. Arriving around sunset with the blackout blind partly down made the room feel darker than I expected. In terms of value, this was at the top end of my nightly work budget at about $200 per night on a corporate rate, but I felt it was absolutely worth the cost. I would happily stay here again for work, and I would also stay here personally as a bit of a treat. Overall, Pan Pacific Melbourne delivered a very comfortable, convenient and polished stay, with only a few minor drawbacks around lighting and hallway noise.

Cons: Be careful with your holding deposits. Upon check-in, the hotel wanted a holding deposit of $200 for incidentals. We ended up extending our 2-night stay to 3. Long story short, they have taken their charges totalling around $1000 for the 3 night stay - but are still holding about $1100 from our bank account, leaving us short for other commitments (rent!). This is unacceptable, obviously. Little things: Breakfast was nothing noteworthy - if you are gluten free you will be disappointed - usual supermarket bread, cornflakes and bran flakes. No pastries, cakes or special treats. Same with the restaurant and room service. Melbourne CBD was also extremely lacking in gluten free foods so could be a location issue. Decaf coffee from the restaurant is actually made with capsules/pods, not ground beans. Room wasn't serviced one day even though we had the 'refresh' sign on the door. Towels were thin, marked and not luxe as you would expect from a 5 star. Rooms a little tired and showing their age. Receiving room service coffees in takeaway cups took away a bit of the 5 star feel, again. Pros: Our view of the river and CBD was outstanding. Hotel was quiet and the blockout blind worked well. Staff were very nice and left our daughter a lovely little printed poster of the band she was seeing the next day - the reason for our trip. Lobby is very nice and the hotel has a beautiful scent throughout. The Family room with a Queen bed and a single bed suited our needs very well. Bathrooms were spacious and we especially love hotels that have a separate toilet area with a door. Lovely hand soap etc - would prefer individual tubes etc instead of pump packs but understand the plastic issue. Beds very comfortable. Rooms spacious. Clean. Nice robes and slippers. Location is both a pro and a con - beautiful walk along the river and quiet surrounds - view is stunning of both sides of the city. Bit of a walk or Uber to get to the CBD area.

From the minute we entered the Pan Pacific Melbourne to the second we left everything was five star. We didn’t realise we had booked the pacific club room but it was well worth it. We got to have access to the club lounge for canapés and drinks. The whole experience in the Pan Pacific was spectacular. I’d highly recommend it as it was so close to everything aswell. The staff were all so helpful and the rooms were spectacular too. We ended up booking another room last minute for our daughter and that was done with no problems at all either. The Pan Pacific was very central to the city and has lots of shopping around it too.

WARNING to anyone staying at Pan Pacific — keep a very close eye on your bank account. I was effectively left without $929 of my own money for my entire weekend because of this hotel's failure to manage their billing process. At check-in a $929 pre-authorisation hold was placed on my account for the stay and bond, which I was fine with. What nobody told me was that a separate charge of $738 would be taken out at checkout before the $929 hold was released. Because Pan Pacific couldn't time their own transactions properly, both amounts were sitting out of my account at the same time leaving me overdrawn and without access to my money for the whole weekend. When I called to raise this, the response was dismissive basically just "call your bank." No apology, no accountability, nothing. Yes, I understand that the $929 hold will eventually be released and I will get my money back but that does not cover the overdraft fees I have already been charged. That money was mine and I couldn't access it because of their poor billing management. This is also not the first time. On a previous stay it took 10 business days to get my bond back something that has never happened to me at any other hotel in Melbourne. I am incredibly disappointed and will not be staying here ever again.
