This is a good hotel - long established and in an excellent location. You will get a good experience there - but not a great one. This has always been my fave hotel in Melbourne but these days there are so many more options in Melbourne at a similar price point that are nicer because they are newer. Sofitel is a bit tired these days - the rooms are nice and many with fabulous views but the bathrooms are small and tired and the common areas are sub-par. The bar has no atmosphere - its stuck in the 80's! The lobby area has a nice bar area but for the two days I was there it was closed. The area where you have breakfast has magnificent views and the food is nice - but honestly this isn't enough to keep the Sofitel competitive with some of the amazing new hotels that have opened in Melbourne in the last few years.

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins is supposed to be 5-star hotel. The foyer is great, the restaurant is good, the staff are lovely, but the bathrooms are so outdated, with leaky taps that has water running all over the bench. No water pressure for the shower, and just about impossible to get the water temperature correct and keep it at that temperature. It was our second stay this year, hoping this time the bathroom would be better. Different floors, different rooms

On arrival we were directed up the escalator with all our luggage, other members of our group asked if a lift was available but was told to use the escalator, my mother's suitcase toppled over and dragged her backwards on the escalator causing her to fall luckily members of our group were behind her and stopped her from hurting herself, the staff were unable to locate the emergency stop button for some time and during that time my mother struggled to stand back up. Staff members did not seem to care that a guest suffered a fall and was not offered any treatment at all. Whilst we were composing ourselves in the lobby it quickly became apparent that there was a lift as other members of our group were using it due to the escalator eventually being stopped. Terrible customer service.

Luxury all the way! The room was amazing with views overlooking looking the entire city. One of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in at a hotel! Highly recommend the breakfast buffet with stunning views. Staff were friendly, and Eimeren was especially amazing helping us on arrival. Her service made our stay. Absolutely cannot beat the location. Walking distance to so many places with great shops and restaurants around the corner. I will definitely stay at Sofitel locations going forward.
