Stamford Plaza Melbourne

Have been staying here upon visiting Melbourne since 1995 because of its location and the superb sized suites and their amenities. The suites are excellently designed and appointed giving great options if travelling with others. They have a classic design which transcends fads and fashions. Regrettably this is let down by the abysmal service, except on reception. This most recent stay was spoilt by a number of things which I had raised but which were never acknowledged or solved. Harry's Bar is most unfriendly, cold, grossly under staffed and generally uninviting. I waited up to 5 minutes at breakfast to even be acknowledged let alone seated. The breakfast was not very appetising. The staff there seemed to be very busy as tables remained uncleared. Room service was not answered when rang and went to an answering phone. Their environment programme appears to be just a scam as the benefits offered were never delivered and once this was raised still nothing was done about providing the benefits. Overall a lovely hotel and suite is ruined by the lack of staff and apparent lack of concern by management. I stayed for over one week. Even written complaints were not addressed. Unfortunately, after all this time I shall be looking elsewhere for my next visit to Melbourne.

The Stamford was a beautiful place to stay for my daughter's hens night weekend. All staff had great attitudes and made all of us girls feel very welcome. And the rooms are absolutely beautiful, I felt like royalty for a night. Wonderful stay, clean beautiful rooms, professionalism at its best at reception, I will definitely be returning here.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at Stamford Plaza Melbourne. The biggest concern was the condition of the bathroom. There was extensive black staining and mould/mildew-like buildup around the shower screen, seals and bath edges, together with dirty and heavily discoloured grout and sealant in multiple areas. This wasn't a tiny spot that had simply been missed during cleaning. It was visible throughout the shower/bath area. I've included photographs with this review so others can judge the condition for themselves. There were also several maintenance and comfort issues. The air-conditioning/heating controls were not functioning correctly, leaving the room feeling damp and uncomfortable. I reported this on my second night. A gentleman from Reception came to the room and attempted to reset the system, but unfortunately this didn't resolve it. He arranged an additional blanket for me instead. The fridge was also so cold that it froze my drinks. The room was noisy, and I found the television offering surprisingly limited, with basic channels or the option of casting your own content. I do want to acknowledge the staff. The gentleman from Reception who tried to resolve the temperature issue was absolutely lovely, helpful and genuinely made an effort to assist. Breakfast was also very good, and while I found the dinner menu quite limited, the food itself was enjoyable. Unfortunately, those positives couldn't outweigh the condition and comfort of the room. I don't expect any hotel stay to be flawless, and an occasional maintenance issue wouldn't normally warrant such a poor review. However, this wasn't one isolated problem. It was the combination of cleanliness, maintenance, temperature, dampness, noise and amenities that made the overall experience so disappointing. These are issues I would have been unhappy with at a considerably lower-rated property. For a hotel presented as five-star, my experience wasn't remotely close to the standard I expected.

Great location , friendly staff, warm and spacious rooms, lifts in working order 100% of the time. Food onsite was good quality.
