Park Hyatt Melbourne

Good service and spacious room. Bathroom has no towel racks and minimal counter space. Doors to the bathroom too transparent; if one gets up and turns on the light, it’ll wake up the other sleeper. Phone not by bedside, meaning one has to get out of bed to answer a wake-up call. Old-fashioned plumbing system with separate hot water and cold water control, making it very hard to find the right temperature.

We had a lovely weekend in Melbourne staying here. The service was impeccable and the hotel offers a classic refined atmosphere. While we had a basic king room it felt a bit special and the breakfast was delicious. This location in Melbourne is perfect for walks in the parks, easy access to the top end theatres and options to explore a little beyond the city to the Melbourne Museum and trendy inner North restaurants and shopping. Easy public transport to other parts of the city were also an option.

In our three-week journey in Australia, we chose a number of smaller lux boutique hotels to sample local hospitality. Once in a while though it is just necessary to go into a brand hotel for a reset. Park Hyatt in Melbourne did just that for us. Our room on the 9th floor was very generous in size, two large casement windows looking out to the magnificent St. Patrick Cathedral. The room has a large dressing/walk-in closet, a sizable bathroom with a tub. The room was smartly configured to have a set of couches and dining table / chair set without feeling you have to negotiate your way around. Bedsheets are high quality, and housekeeping really delivers. We had breakfast only once as the rest days we had early morning departures for various activities. The one we had onsite was excellent, variety of choice and quality food. The made-to-order station provides something for everyone's culinary preference. The location, while not on Colin Street, is only a short walk away and we walked everywhere. The location of Park Hyatt is actually more exclusive given the beautiful surroundings around the Cathedral. The service quality is bifurcated. The front desk staff are extraordinary, helpful, courteous and generous in offering help (we had breakfast boxes delivered to our room at 5:15am, and it was right on time with a gentle knock on the door). On the other extreme, the restaurant staff at breakfast were nonchalant and their expression tells you they don't like what they do and you ought to suffer with them (exception is the chef behind the hot service counter whose enthusiasm melts you). Equally unpleasant was the porter/concierge gentleman at the door who was consistently unpleasant and I feel sorry for him having to be a human being like this. But overall, small issues to address, or not, this is still an amazing hotel to stay before moving to another boutique hotel from the Small Luxury Hotel collection.

A gorgeous hotel. Top quality. The check in was friendly and fast. The rooms was incredible. So new and clean! The breakfast was over the top and the service and food for dinner was fantastic! Definitely choose to stay at the Park Hyatt in Melbourne!

Right from the drive in, the experience was great. The valet staff were attentive on first approach. The check in staff were fast and efficient. The room itself was spacious and lovely. The buffet breakfast had so many delicious options and was easily accessible.
