Park Hyatt Melbourne

Honestly was underwhelmed by this hotel for it being 5 star it doesn't feel like that. The hotel is older so keep that in mind its very dated and does not scream luxury. The indoor pool is nice, the spa was so strong with chlorine it was burning our eyes. The steam room and sauna is a nice touch. The hotel room was clean but once again dated. The buffet breakfast was a lovely selection but everything that I had it was cold. The experience just was not what I expected for the price their are nicer hotels.

The positives: Beautiful property well maintained and staff are well trained though some tend to be robotic script readers seemingly reading corporate dogma. Room was clean and well arranged with a high standard of care. The very negative: Despite repeated calls and communications both from myself and our very competent travel advisors prior to the stay . . . Room placement request was not only ignored but they denied even having records of the communications. Arriving after a 16 hour flight (21 hours of total travel) and having paid for an extra night just so that I could check in early to match flight schedules I was assigned a very expensive and otherwise nice suite facing the city and busy streets. The room is a “Terrace Suite” but what reason could possibly exist for a terrace overlooking city streets and so noisy that even phone conversation is impossible is completely unclear to me. Even with doors sealed traffic noise is quite apparent sleep will be very difficult without ear plugs. I was offered an “upgrade” at “only” $1,500 on top of what I was paying to enable a quiet park facing room which was my original request. This is completely unacceptable and does not meet the Park Hyatt standards of customer care or even ethics. So . . . Scratch Park Hyatt off of our personal and corporate list of destinations and I will encourage our travel advisors to take the same action.

This Park Hyatt is much more dated than others I have visited and the service was not as on point - more attitude, less helpful. That being said, it is in a terrific location, the rooms are large, and breakfast was excellent.

I feel at home when I walk in the door. Beautiful Art Deco architecture and perfectly maintained. Good sized rooms with all facilities. Pool, gym and spa too.

Exceeded all expectations. This was an impromptu trip to Melbourne, where I met up with some friends, and we ended up having such a brilliant, relaxing time that we hardly left the hotel - that’s how good it was! We loved sitting in the lobby and people-watching, and the whole experience was chilled and luxurious. The staff were next level - every single person was phenomenal.
