Definitely 5 star service and facilities in a lovely green part of southern Greece

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

The hotel facilities are truly first class including the superb room/balcony with sea views. The staff were all exceptional. The breakfast area was superbly laid out with comprehensive and an amazing variety of different food stations in separate buildings, including a dedicated coffee unit. We enjoyed ALL the personable staff and would commend Nikos from Platia for his particular attention and personal service. The restaurants were at the high end of quality food, although for a short taxi ride there were traditional Greek tavernas on the waterfront in the nearby villages of Gialova (accessible via 20 min walk) or nearby Pylos. This is a superb part of southern Greece to visit, with attractive coastlines/beaches, mini cruises and many castles/historic sites to visit. I would commend the General Manager and other key staff for their approachability and visibility during the breakfast timings, generously available to chat and handle feedback - very impressive. Golf courses and facilities were superb; access via a free golf buggy. The live music was highly professional amongst the setting of fabulous sunsets. Well done to the W brand of hotels.

Enjoyed our stay

Nice 5 star hotel in a great location, stunning views and overall very good. Rooms very well appointed, nice showers and bathroom. Fresh still bottled water replaced daily, which is needed. Rooms well insulated from sound, solid doors had some pretty amazing sleeps! Food: restaurants on the whole very good if expensive, we were half board and we still averaged an additional cost of 100 Euro’s each per day for food and drink, even though we were half board we ended up choosing from the non half board evening meal a la carte menu (much more variety)and as such, you do get a 49 euro discount per person however, we ended up going way over that each night, excluding alcohol and we never ate desserts, but we did eat lunch daily at the pool. The food quality was very good at the hotel main restaurants, good selection of well prepared locally Influenced dishes. Amazing tomatoes and salads as you would expect, good fresh fish too. Highly recommend Parelia, we ate there the most. Fresh baked sourdough bread with the tomato and feta salad is a must! Also the Green Pepper cafe well worth a visit, great staff - we ate lunch there several times and highly recommend the oat pancakes! We opted to walk to the small local hamlet about a 20 minute walk along the beach 1 day and had a great lunch of high quality local dishes and for about a 1/3 of the price you pay at the hotel. We also went into Pylos via cab, one evening lots of local restaurants here and a lovely square where the locals chill, chat and eat. Had a great meal at Koukos, very good Greek food and again a lot cheaper than at the hotel and it was nice to get out of the resort for an evening and take in some local culture. Daily breakfast at the hotel was great, three different serving buildings one a bakery, one fruit and breakfast dishes and the other savory breakfast additions including eggs. All very good with a great selection in each. Eating after 9:30am can get busy and the staff seem slightly overwhelmed often forgetting orders for coffee, cutlery, milk or whatever or taking a long time to deliver on any request. My only complaint breakfast wise rwas the coffee that was served in the metal pots, am a big coffee in the morning fan, the coffee served was little more than slightly Coffee flavored water, incredibly weak, not sure why, it was the same each day. As such we had to go into the coffee shop area and get it topped up with stronger coffee from the machine they had in there which took a while every morning. Golfing: we never golfed but there are several courses nearby, friends of ours golfed at 2 courses and were highly complimentary. Overall an expensive, but good quality well run resort. You will enjoy!

Great experience way over priced

Massively overpriced food & drink Hotel is 5 star lovely rooms fab breakfast staff are very friendly & helpful lovely golf courses with really nice personal touches i would give the hotel itself 5* but what really lets this resort down is the ridiculous prices charged, with competition from other Mediterranean countries this really needs rethinking as the restaurants in all hotels are practically empty.

Great setting. Great facilities. Dreadful service.

The setting is wonderful - beautiful sea with lovely sunset; there’s good variety of rooms, good restaurants etc. The trouble is the restaurant and bar staff service which is substantially below what you’d expect for the price point. The hotel management seem blissfully unaware of how bad it is.

Fabulous !

We booked out golfing break here direct with Marriott and we were pleased we had. We were greeted warmly on arrival by the Director of Operations, Dimitris and our Titanium status was recognised by an upgrade to a wonderful beach front suite with its own pool. The design of the hotel is stunning and whilst the W hotels might be regarded as more of a young person’s hotel the atmosphere was very calm and relaxed. There was music playing at the pool but it was discreet. There was always excellent availability of sun beds . The golf operations are very well managed , we were even contacted one day to suggest we played a bit earlier as we were booked in behind a large group as we would have a better game and this proved to be the case. We were able to hire good quality golf clubs for €50 each for the four rounds of golf which were waiting on the buggy for us before each game. We played all four courses and they were in good condition with stunning views. The practice facilities were excellent . We also enjoyed the yoga and Pilates classes and my husband had a massage which he said was excellent. There are a number of restaurants on site which are good and reasonably priced. It is possible to walk along the beach to some restaurants but it’s not a very nice walk and we felt it was better to get a taxi to Pylos which has a small harbour and some interesting restaurants or eat in the hotel. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
