Reviews for Camino Real Polanco Mexico

really good, until...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

everything is really good, stay, rooms, food, service. would recommend... until... the checkout person at 5th floor went for lunch at checkout time, and we had to wait 40 minutes to be checked out. We asked for help and the answer was, "she went for lunch". Really?!?!?!?!? in a USD 300+ room stay? other than this, everything great!

Wanted to live this property

Just checked in; door to room doesn’t close - I can literally see the light from the hallway, lamp doesn’t work and you need all the lighting as it is like a dungeon in this room. The beds are not queens but full and the carpet is a strange purple. You need a key for the minibar. I lOVE Camino real properties and really wanted to love this one but hopefully when we ask for a room change tomorrow things will look brighter.

Very nice, everything went smoothly. Plenty of options on entertainment and food within the facility.

Iconic architecture, but dated facilities and sub-par service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Camino Real in Polanco is an iconic hotel in Mexico City. Colorful, unique and a timeless classic, it has fallen behind to a wider offer of accommodations in the city, because the facilities are dated, and above all, the hotel service is below average. Getting to your room will take you at least 10 minutes, since the hotel is very spread out. Rooms are wide and spacious, but beds are not as comfortable as they could be, furniture is pretty basic (no sofa in the room, just a couple of chairs), no major amenities are offered (two tiny bottles of water in a double room), a locked minibar, a shower with a non-working glass door (so water splashes were a constant), no ironing board in the room (a basic feature even in cheaper hotels) and overall, a feeling that your stay could have been much more comfortable and enjoyable if someone cared... because the place has so much potential. Check-in service is AWFUL, with a massively large front desk that only features 2-3 employees, so if you are lucky, you will wait 15 minutes to be checked-in. And a special note to their excessively loud housekeeping staff, who are constantly yelling to each other and chit-chatting during their work hours in the hallways of the hotel, ignoring completely that the guests are seeking some quiet, relaxing atmosphere. This truly caught my eye multiple times, because the staff would surprisingly keep on chatting while guests approached, instead of keeping it down to pretend (at least) that they were working quietly. Maybe that is why they forgot to make my room during one of the days of my stay. Finally, the food offering is very limited, and the quality of the dining options is not what you would expect in a city known for some of the best restaurants in the planet. A lovely place, in fact... but the experience made it almost unforgettable
