My family spent two days at the Salamander Resort in Middleburg for a spring break getaway, hoping for a relaxing escape with some equestrian fun. The property itself is undeniably stunning—grand architecture, peaceful grounds, and spacious, luxurious rooms that make you feel instantly at ease. Our riding experiences were wonderful, and the setting truly is something special. However, our final morning took an unexpected turn. Due to an issue that delayed us getting downstairs until about 10:30, we called the restaurant at 10:35 to see if we could still be seated for breakfast. We were told no. We then contacted the concierge to ask whether breakfast room service might still be possible, and again the answer was no. It was especially disappointing because my daughter had been looking forward to the coconut Nutella pancakes on the menu. At that point, we were upset enough that we considered checking out early and leaving. I stopped by the front desk to explain the situation, but the response was simply “sorry,” which added to the frustration. As a last attempt, I walked over to the hotel bar to see if they might have anything available. A server named Manuel was setting up for lunch and asked how I was doing. I told him what had happened and how disappointed my daughter was. Without hesitation, he went straight to the kitchen and personally asked the chef to prepare a breakfast spread just for us. He even tried to recreate the chocolate chip pancakes my daughter had been so excited about. Manuel’s kindness completely changed the tone of our morning. What could have been a sour ending to an otherwise lovely trip became a moment my daughter will remember for a long time. His willingness to help, his empathy, and the care he put into making things right were truly exceptional. Salamander Resort is a beautiful place, but employees like Manuel are what make a stay meaningful. I hope the resort recognizes what an asset he is. Sometimes a small gesture can have an enormous impact, and his certainly did for us.

Great getaway for a mother-daughter trip. The pace was relaxing and not crowded with great scent throughout the hotel. Spent too much in the gift shop but the memories were worth it.

Wow- the Salamander truly exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment you walk through the front doors, you can feel that this is a beautiful, upscale property. The "lobby" is grand but almost feels like a living room- there are many comfortable places to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a book. There's a "study"-style room that is the same way. Even the most basic style of bedroom you can reserve is absolutely huge, comfortable, and beautifully designed. The leather headboards and canopies over the beds were gorgeous. The equestrian theme is everywhere on the property, but feels tasteful, like bridles on the sheets or a themed art piece in the bathroom. Our room had a fantastic soaking tub (which came with a packet of bath salts, which was so nice) and an incredible shower with towels already tucked on hidden shelves inside the shower. I believe every room has a balcony or patio, which was so nice to be able to enjoy. We spent most of the time just enjoying the grounds, and didn't opt to add on any experiences except the spa (which was incredible and which I've reviewed separately!), but there is no shortage of activities here- you can do falconry, pickleball, tennis... the options are truly endless. I took a picture of the recreation offerings that shows just a smattering of the things you can do here! We did have both dinner and Sunday brunch at Harrimans and were blown away by both meals. The chef is truly excellent and we had the most wonderful server, Mohamed, who made the weekend feel so special. I honestly cannot recommend staying here enough. It's pricey, but you can truly see why- this is luxury in every way. We already can't wait to return!

The Salamander’s staff was great and friendly. The staff made sure that everyone in my party had a great personalized time.

My daughters and I went to Salamander's Harriman for afternoon tea and were extremely disappointed. The sandwiches were stale, the servings were minuscule and not fresh and we were never offered hot water refills for our tea ( which turned cold and bitter in it's press ). I have been to several afternoon tea's, in many locations, and considering this tea cost $125 per person ( including tips and taxes ), I would have to rate this one as WAY overpriced and very low budget. We would never return.
