If your sweet tooth aches when you check into Meliá Milano, there might still be sugar in the building’s bones: This used to be the site of Alemagna cake factory, famous for inventing the traditional Christmas cake panettone. The factory was leveled in World War II, and an elegant hotel took its place in 2001. Rooms are outfitted in rich, neutral colors with heavy brocaded drapes and gilded gold embellishments. For a modern change of pace, book the Diabolik Comic Experience Room, a noire-style tribute to the Italian comic hero.

Lovely hotel and room. Good air conditioning however the view wasn’t the best. Check in staff were brilliant however felt the lady who greeted us for breakfast to be a little rude at times. Rooms where cleaned daily but I did leave an expensive pair of sunglasses on the side that vanished and know I will never get them back. Tried to ask cleaners if they have moved them but limited English so couldn’t get to the bottom of where they went. Breakfast was a good variety. Located 5 minutes from metro didn’t feel the safest late at night but that’s everywhere you go.

Very smart and spotlessly clean hotel, all staff were friendly and helpful, lending me an adapter for my plug after I had forgotten mine for example and the bar staff putting the football on the big screen which was much appreciated. My room was very hot, the AC didn't seem to work but after I informed reception this was resolved. We ate in the restaurant one night which was very good if not a little expensive. Breakfast was plentiful but the cooked breakfast wasn't to a high standard: congealed scrambled eggs and undercooked bacon.

Weekend away with the fam. Lovely clean hotel with large spacious rooms; plenty of storage for clothes. Gorgeous reception with polite staffing.

Mixed experience at this hotel. The establishment is absolutely gorgeous with a great design and interior decoration. The room I stayed in was nice however I had a few issues. The bathroom doors are positioned very awkwardly. Unfortunately the room was dusty and I found a few bugs from mosquito to spiders. The shower did not drain and had quite a bit of standing water. The location was good and the staff was all very friendly. I think with a few improvements in house keeping and maintenance this place would be a 5/5 but it sits at a 3/5 for me. As a 5 star hotel these are things that should be considered.

The Melia Milano is an absolutely stunning hotel, we booked ‘The Level Room’ and Laura & her colleagues were amazing. They were super helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. We especially appreciated the balloons and prosecco that they added to the room after we shared we were there to celebrate a recent birthday. One minor issue, when leaving the room we put ‘do not disturb’ & ‘do not clean room’ signs on - however this was disregarded and room service still entered. On the whole, we would definitely recommend ‘The Level’ to anyone coming to Milan, it is definitely worth the upgrade with a lovely private lounge on the first floor.
