About the Hotel

If your sweet tooth aches when you check into Meliá Milano, there might still be sugar in the building’s bones: This used to be the site of Alemagna cake factory, famous for inventing the traditional Christmas cake panettone. The factory was leveled in World War II, and an elegant hotel took its place in 2001. Rooms are outfitted in rich, neutral colors with heavy brocaded drapes and gilded gold embellishments. For a modern change of pace, book the Diabolik Comic Experience Room, a noire-style tribute to the Italian comic hero.

Disappointing Five-Star Experience: Service, Comfort, and Safety Concerns at Meliá Milano

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Based on our recent stay at Meliá Milano, I would not recommend this hotel, especially for guests expecting a true five-star experience in Milan. There were some positive aspects: our initial check-in was handled by a lovely receptionist, we were provided a complimentary room upgrade, along with a welcome cake and wine (later swapped for two bottles of ice tea). The shower pressure in the room was excellent, and the gym being open 24 hours was convenient. However, several issues seriously impacted our experience: Room Comfort: Despite the upgrade, we were given two single beds pushed together instead of a proper double or king bed. This was uncomfortable and not what you would expect from a five-star hotel. It’s a basic standard that was not met. Location: While the hotel is near the train station and central Milan is about 15 minutes away by train, the area itself is surrounded by construction and lacks the atmosphere you would expect from a five-star property. It does not feel like a classy or desirable part of Milan, which could be misleading for guests unfamiliar with the city. Service after check-in: After the warm welcome, service became inconsistent and slow. Requests made via the app—such as for a comb and a night pack—were not fulfilled promptly. The comb took two days and multiple reminders, while the night pack never arrived. Tea bags and coffee were not restocked in our room throughout our four-day stay, despite repeated requests. Room cleanliness: The cleaning standards were disappointing. On arrival, we found blood stains on our pillows, which is unacceptable at any level of hotel, let alone a five-star. Breakfast experience: The breakfast was decent but not exceptional. The service was overly hasty; plates were taken away even while we were still eating, and on one occasion, my nearly full plate was cleared while I briefly left the table to order for my wife. Safety concerns: The gym had a water machine positioned dangerously close to exposed electric wires. On the first night, I had to move the machine and use towels to prevent a potential hazard. Despite reporting this to staff on two separate occasions, the issue was not resolved and my concerns were dismissed. Unexpected charges: We were charged a city tax that was not mentioned during booking, and the hotel’s location does not justify such a charge as it is not in the city center. While there are some hotels in Milan that offer high standards of service, cleanliness, and location, our experience at Meliá Milano did not reflect the quality, comfort, or safety expected from a five-star property. I would advise potential guests to consider alternative options unless significant improvements are made.

Lovely stay - great location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We had a lovely stay at the Meliá Milano. We were able to store our bags as we arrived before check in and when we checked in our bags were taken to our room for us a lovely touch after we were so exhausted. We had a classic room, nice enough and a little outside area. Another nice touch of tooth brushes, razor and cotton bads, robes and slippers. Only complaint we had was their weren't plugs beside the bed, had to plug in beside the desk across the room. The air con and lights operated by touch screens beside the beds. Lots of pillows really comfortable.   The only thing I knock the hotel down for is on our 2nd night we had a knock at the door about 10.30pm, a member of staff needing to check our bathroom. He came and went multiple times before informing us we had to change room. This caused me great anxiety as it was late and out of the blue without explanation. While packing away our things reception rang and explained and said they'd upgrade our room. I would have preferred a heads up from reception before the knock on the door to relieve the worry we had about what's going on. It was a cause of concern and made us crater uncomfortable as we were chilling in our hotel robes after a busy day.   However our upgraded room was lovely, massive comfy bed, usb, usb c and plugs beside the bed massive plus. Complementary water and chocolates were delivered in on the Sunday night which was appreciated. We also stayed for my partners 30th birthday and the hotel we're amazing with us finding some bubbles, balloons and a cake after our night at the San Siro. The staff on reception couldn't do enough to help and answered our queries about getting places and provided a map. We would definitely return, the hotel is so conveniently located - just round the corner from the Lotto station - straight line to the Duomo and on the M4 to the San Siro. Lovely supermarket just round the corner too. Tip we emptied the mini bar so we could keep our own drinks cold and then replaced them all back in the fridge before leaving.

Convenient and Comfortable Stay

We stayed at Melia Milano for two nights and had a great experience. The location is perfect; very close to the metro, and you can reach the Duomo directly. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you're visiting Milan.

Two nights in a Level Room at Melia Milano

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

we started out Italy holiday in Milan arriving from Australia via Doha. The ride from the airport was long, we arrived at Reception with our 4 cases. Of note while there appeared to be someone who looked like a doorman Bellboy they did not offer to assist with our luggage. Also of note was that there were 3 reception staff with 1 helping a guest and the other 2 speaking to each other: they did not make eye contact and when I approached the desk was told that check in was at the next desk. We had reserved a room that was in the Level and were meant to be checked in in the Lounge. The reception staff member who attended to us was very polite friendly and took us up to level 1 for check in. From there onward it was excellent service: Laura, checked us in and Shanto, served us in the lounge.THANK YOU. The communication from the lounge manage pre-arrival was excellent. The lounge had an amazing array of food and drink. ( Except the red wine was mediocre) The Service from Shanto on both days was attentive. The room was well appointed with some nice amenities which were a surprise. The room was warm and unfortunately the AC did not appear to working. We had to open the window a bit but this was a problem since it faced the street and the cafes below had people partying till very late. The sleep quality suffered due to this. We had the option of Breakfast in the Lounge : a la Carte or buffet in the main restaurant: we opted for the latter since it had more choice. The service there was below our expectation since I suspect due to being understaffed and under trained staff. The quality of the food and drink was excellent except the coffee which came from automatic machines. We would recommend this hotel

Feels like a 3-star hotel wearing a 5-star suit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We gave Meliá Milano 3 out of 5. When you walk in, the lobby looks grand and impressive—definitely gives that five-star first impression. But once we got to our room (4th floor), reality set in: outdated furniture, some pieces even damaged. Honestly, it felt more like a 3-star room tucked inside a 5-star building. The bed was decent, and the night was quiet, so we slept well. But there was no view, and the room lacked any charm or premium feel. Breakfast had a wide selection, but everything was just… standard. Nothing felt high-end or particularly fresh. Location-wise, it’s a bit outside the city center, but if you’re driving, there are plenty of spots to park just in front—which probably makes more sense than using the hotel’s (likely overpriced) parking. We paid €140 for the night, which is okay, but with five stars and Meliá branding, expectations were higher. The biggest letdown? Despite being a Meliá member and the hotel not being full, we weren’t given a nicer room. We only stayed one night—it would’ve been a small but meaningful gesture. That said, when we pointed out the damaged furniture, management was very professional and offered a 30% discount, which we appreciated. So all in all, a fine stay—but not the five-star experience we were hoping for.
