The Square Milano Duomo

We’ve just spent two nights at The Square Duomo in Milan. Overall, it’s a lovely hotel: the rooms are spacious, there are lots of thoughtful little extras and the location is excellent. The Roof is also a stylish spot for cocktails and dinner. Unfortunately, what lets the hotel down are some of the Reception staff. From the moment we arrived, we found the welcome extremely cold and unwelcoming. We arrived quite late in the evening and there was no real welcome to the hotel or to Milan, no “How was your journey?” or even a simple smile. Instead, the interaction was very matter-of-fact, with passports requested and a detailed explanation of the costs for breakfast, city tax, minibar, etc. The receptionist genuinely appeared as though we had interrupted his evening. The conversation ended with, “Are you OK to take your cases to your room?” — which rather summed up the experience. We also asked if he could book us a table at The Roof for the following evening. We were told that they were very busy at that moment and that he would let us know “tomorrow afternoon”. We were happy to wait. However, we never received a call. After a full day exploring Milan, we returned to Reception and asked again whether a table had been reserved. Once again, we were told that they couldn’t connect with the restaurant at that time and that we would be informed. In the end, we simply went back to our room and booked the table ourselves online. Fortunately, the staff at The Roof were completely different — friendly, welcoming and attentive — so this really seemed to be an issue with the Reception team rather than the hotel as a whole. It’s a shame, because the hotel itself has a lot going for it. However, Reception is the first impression guests have, and ours was unfortunately not a good one. For that reason, despite enjoying many aspects of our stay, we wouldn’t choose to return in the future.

This was our second time in Milan, and our second time at the Square Milano Duomo. Location is simply perfect, a short walk away from the Duomo and Vittorio Emanuele II gallery. Breakfast is great.

This was a great hotel choice for us and a lovely air-conditioned refuge for us during a heat wave. It's only a few blocks from the Duomo and within easy walking distance of other attractions. It has a lovely rooftop bar and restaurant. We also enjoyed the lobby bar and it's pleasant bartender, Francesco. The rooms were clean and very well-appointed. Reception staff was very helpful.

The Square Milano was one of our favorite surprises of our Italy trip! It was one of the more affordable hotels we booked, but it felt incredibly luxurious from the moment we walked in. The hotel was beautiful, modern, and classy, with a great atmosphere. The staff was amazing and so helpful. We had an early 5:00 AM flight, and they kindly prepared a breakfast box for us (requested the night before) that was full of delicious treats, fruit, juice, and water. Our room was spacious and comfortable, probably the largest we had during our entire trip. The location was perfect—just a short walk to the Duomo and many great restaurants. We would absolutely stay here again!

Hotel is nice… skip the roof!!!! Bugs and rude personnel. If you want a place to settle for a nice relaxing afternoon or evening pick a different hotel altogether.
