Hotel Ivy, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Minneapolis

I am currently staying at The Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis for business, and unfortunately, my experience so far has fallen well short of what I would expect from a property that markets itself as a luxury hotel. While the staff have been a bright spot, nearly every other aspect of my stay has been disappointing. The arrival experience was frustrating from the start. There was no clear direction for valet services, and a group of black cars associated with an event on the property completely blocked the front entrance, leaving nowhere for arriving guests to pull up. After circling the block several times trying to figure out how to unload my luggage, I eventually had to block the street and walk inside to seek assistance. Thankfully, I encountered David at the front desk, who was warm, welcoming, and genuinely apologetic about the situation. Having traveled since 4 a.m., I was incredibly grateful that he arranged for me to access a room well before the standard check-in time. David was a standout in an otherwise disappointing experience and demonstrated the kind of hospitality I would expect throughout a luxury property. Unfortunately, the room itself presented another issue. Although aesthetically attractive, the bathroom had clearly not been cleaned properly. The bathtub was dirty and contained hair, and the bathrobe had visible stains. I returned to the front desk to notify David, who arranged for the bathroom to be cleaned while I was out for the day. Upon returning, the tub was spotless, and the smell of bleach was unmistakable. However, the stained bathrobe had been left in the room. I appreciated the prompt response to the bathroom issue, but the fact that a visibly stained robe remained is disappointing and speaks to a lack of attention to detail. The dining experience was equally underwhelming. The hotel's restaurant offerings initially seemed promising, and the front desk recommended the Mexican restaurant for dinner. What I was not informed of was that, due to a private event, only one of the property's restaurants would be available that evening—and it was not the restaurant recommended to me. As a result, Breva was significantly overcrowded. I attempted to order food three separate times before anyone finally assisted me. When the food arrived, it was nearly inedible. The mashed potatoes were cold and excessively salty, while my filet was gray in color and bland. Overall, it was a thoroughly disappointing meal. Finally, the bed was among the most uncomfortable I have experienced in a hotel. The mattress was rock-hard, the pillows were stiff, and the linens felt cheap and scratchy. A comfortable, restful night's sleep should be a fundamental expectation at any hotel, particularly one positioning itself as a luxury destination. Ultimately, this stay has been a significant disappointment. Luxury is about far more than attractive interiors and an upscale brand image. It is about thoughtful arrivals, impeccable cleanliness, attentive service, quality dining, comfortable accommodations, and attention to the details that make a guest feel genuinely cared for. Unfortunately, too many of those fundamentals have been missing from my experience. The true highlight of this property is its staff, particularly David, whose warmth, professionalism, and willingness to help stood out in a meaningful way. He deserves recognition for making an otherwise frustrating arrival considerably better. However, exceptional individual service cannot compensate for the broader shortcomings of the guest experience. I expected a luxury stay and instead encountered multiple service, housekeeping, dining, and comfort issues. Based on my experience so far, The Hotel Ivy has a considerable gap between the luxury experience it promises and the one it delivers.

Had an excellent experience, kudos to Patricia and the staff for the warm welcome! I happened to be visiting around my birthday, but I hadn't mentioned it or included it anywhere in my reservation notes. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to receive a room upgrade upon arrival, which made the stay feel even more special. The room was wonderful, the property was beautiful, and the staff were welcoming and attentive throughout my stay. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better first experience. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Minneapolis. Thank you to the entire team for making my stay so memorable!

Great hotel with a luxury boutique feel. My room was in very good condition and extremely clean. Housekeeping serviced my room during my stay and did an excellent job. Food at Bar Edera was delicious. I wish the hotel was a little more centrally located but that would not deter me from staying here again.

We sincerely appreciate the hospitality and highly recommend this hotel for a first class experience

The staff is lovely, the gym is incredible, and the linens (sheets, towels and pillows) are nicer than average. However, this is a far cry from luxury. There is no concierge on property, the room decor and amenities are questionable (an actual closet? slippers? the tiny fridge drawer?), and housekeeping isn't great (definitely don't expect turn down service. And one day, we left our room at 12:30 pm and returned at 9;30 pm and our room was never cleaned). Other than the gym, overall it is just OK, and at these "luxury" rates, you definitely expect more.
