Wyndham-Level Experience at Hyatt Prices: Paper in My Food, Hostile Service, and Zero Quality Control

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Staying at the Hyatt Centric Downtown Minneapolis was easily one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had. The property operates well below Hyatt brand standards across service, housekeeping, and dining. Service & Housekeeping Housekeeping Failures: Basic room maintenance was overlooked, including failing to replace standard bottled water during our stay. Night Management: The night manager, Porter, set an uncomfortably cold and indifferent tone in every interaction. When we called from our room at 10 PM to request utensils for dinner, his immediate response was simply, "It's 10 PM, there's no one here except me." Rather than finding a simple customer service solution, he made us walk down to the lobby to fetch them ourselves. Vague Parking Guidance: Directions to the basement parking were extremely vague. Navigating one-way downtown streets to locate a hidden entrance with zero meaningful direction from Porter (again) was unnecessarily frustrating. Dining Experience Kitchen Error: We dined at 4 PM and were the *only* party in the bar/restaurant. We ordered drinks, a salad, and a chicken sandwich. The sandwich arrived bare: just a dry chicken breast, a bun, and a slice of cheese. Unbelievably, the kitchen staff failed to remove the paper wrapping from the slice of cheese before melting/assembling it. I bit directly into paper on my first bite. Subpar Quality: The accompanying salad was stale. Because the sandwich had no vegetables whatsoever, I had to pick the stale lettuce and onions off the salad and put them on the bun to make the sandwich remotely edible. Mandatory 20% Gratuity: Paper-wrapped depressingly stale food to the only occupied table in the restaurant was capped off by a mandatory 20% auto-gratuity added to the check. Only POSITIVE Experiences to note: - Room was nice, big and comfy, shower area was nice. - The bar tender was apologetic on the food issue, offered 50% comp-off on the sandwich and the dessert. The drinks he made and the dessert from the kitchen were really good and ended our dining experience on a positive note. Between the cold, dismissive front desk management and serving plastic/paper-wrapped cheese in an empty restaurant, this stay was a masterclass in low effort. I will not be returning to this property.

Great location but consistent temperature issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Overall this facility is well maintained, is in a centrally located downtown spot, and the staff are friendly and attentive. That being said, I’ve encountered temperature issues at this location on multiple business trips. On this latest trip, the air conditioning throughout the facility including the lobby as well as the rooms was not remotely sufficient. I traveled with a group of 12 coworkers and every one of them complained about temperature issues in their room. This unfortunately resulted in 3 nights of non restful sleep in spite of the comfortable bedding in the rooms. At this point I just can’t recommend this location as we’ve stayed here in the past and had similar issues with temperature leading to non restful sleep.

Don’t bring a car here

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Who is this hotel for? Business travelers with a corporate card to pay for the parking, people flying in who do not have a car, and people who do not mind very soft beds or warm temps. Let me just say, the parking situation really clouded my feelings from the get-go. We arrived and parked across the street in the garage, because there was not valet present. Then, we went to check in and asked about the parking situation and were told that is the more expensive garage and we should park in the other garage that is below the hotel (but the entrance to which is on a totally different street). So back to the car we go. We paid $8 for the small amount of time we spent in the first garage. The next garage had a pocket entrance you have to be fast to catch on the first …or third try. And there are no in/out privileges. So we ended up with $40 for one day and another $36 for the next day because we came to town to do things. I just don’t understand not having valet here. Then, the room. I was offered an upgrade on the app to a deluxe room (tub separate shower in the description) but when we checked in we got an accessible room (combo bath sprayer shower) We’d spent so much time driving and parking we just got settled in. But the room was warm. AC would not cool down to the setting and it was warm all night. Mattress was super soft (maybe that is your back’s thing? Not so much mine). The next morning we told the front desk about the ac and they moved us (to another accessible room) with working ac. Bed still soft like the first room. The area surrounding the hotel is nice and has a lot of great walkable areas with restaurants etc. The staff are great and there are some sitting areas in the lobby and a bar. Would we come back? Get rid of those mattresses and add valet and i would consider it.

Great hotel for downtown Minneapolis

Wonderful hotel in downtown Minneapolis within walking distance to Target Field and Target Center. The hotel is in great shape, and the staff was friendly. Seemed like a safe area too, no issues at all. We will return if ever in the area.
