Reviews for Hyatt Centric Downtown Minneapolis

Used to be great, now disrespecting customers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I wrote the previous review late last year of the Hyatt Centric Minneapolis, but as they change ownership again, ahead of an upcoming stay we were told that they had to close the hotel for a month and would not be offering any assistance to transfer reservations to other Hyatts or hotels in the area with extremely late notice (think, a couple weeks ahead of time). To really Hammer home the point, they also cut all the phone lines so you can't even reach them outside of email, and Hyatt customer service told me that they were instructed by the hotel to not provide assistance. I would not trust this hotel's management team, and would stay in the many other great hotels across Minneapolis versus a place that clearly does not care about guests. PREVIOUS REVIEW: The Hyatt Centric Minneapolis gave us a nearly flawless stay with very friendly and prompt service as the highlight. The rooms were very well maintained and spacious. The one king bed suite had a decently sized living room with a sleeper sofa and a smaller bedroom next door. The sleeper sofa mattress didn't really fit the frame at all, but otherwise the room was well designed and maintained. The bathroom was huge with a tub and well appointed. The gym is huge — as you'd expect from a former athletic club — and I thought keeping the walking track and ability to check out squash equipment were a cool touch. The service is the real star of the show. Everyone we met was extremely eager to help, and while they don't use the Hyatt Has It app feature (which I wish they did), the front desk replied to texts asking for extra blankets/towels etc. in a matter of seconds. Maurice at breakfast and the woman working the front desk on weeknights (didn't catch her name) were particularly excellent. The hotel is downtown in the business district of the city, so it can get a little quiet at night (also a benefit), but it's connected to the Skyway which is great and easy to get to the light rail/Target Field. Overall there wasn't much left desired without nit picking — this was a great stay in a good location.

Everything about the hotel was great! Aside from the fact that we were woken up multiple by phone and door, the person at the door appeared to be wearing a polo from the parking garage company across the street. And instantly began demanding our information as if we hadnt check in with our ID and credit card the night before. Reluctantly I provided my information and then the man tried to tell me that there was an issue with the room and that the billing was going to someone else and that we needed to move rooms and that this was our issue? I confirmed that we infact were in the room in which the keycards were assigned to us at check in. After debate back and fourth and a rude tone from the hotel/Parking staff (not sure who this person worked for) I asked to speak to the hotel manager in which the young man informed me that he was the most senior staff member working. I thought this to be very strange especially on a weekend. I spoke on the phone with the corporate customer service about what was happening. They issued me a case number and called the hotel to speak to the front desk about what was going on. Corporate customer serivce then informed me that they were not going to make us move to another room just becuase of a IT billing issue in which the man who was at our door made it seem like if we didnt move to the other room we would be kicked out. Certainly the most unprofessional experience that we have had at a Hyatt property.

Great stay

Very clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff. It was my second time staying at this location and I will definitely be coming back. My only complaint is i wish there was a better parking option so I could use the money from the parking garage for another night at the hotel.

Far exceeded my expectations!

We’ve never stayed in a Hyatt Centric so didn’t quite know what to expect. It had a very nice decor in the lobby and in our room. Our room (a double queen) was much more spacious than most hotels we ever stay in regardless of price or how many stars and it was nice and quiet (that said we did face the inside where the view is another set of rooms across the way). The beds and bathroom were clean and comfortable. And when I requested an extra blanket, I got it right away. It’s in an excellent location downtown right by the hen Gouse Eatery (great for breakfast ) and just a seven minute walk from Target flagship store, Target Center and a bunch of other restaurants. The only thing to know is that valet parking is extra for $52 a night which is higher than I’ve seen at hotels in other cities but there’s a separate garage across the way at $32 per night (which we used). And considering how incredibly affordable the room rate was, the overall hotel stay was still a terrific value even with the garage costs. There’s also something I’ve never seen before… the room had almost too many nightlights. Under either side of the bed (motion detection in the dark), and the clock was very bright. If you are sensitive to this, you may want to find out how to control for this. I wound up putting a small hand towel over the clock.

The mattress was actually great and I loved the wallpaper and decor. Dissapointing that they charged for breakfast. The staff was very polite and courteous. The room was clean and everything was as it should be. The valet were amazing and quick to get your vehicle
