The serene, isolated beauty of Moab, Utah is characterized by stunning rock formations jutting into the sky, vast desertscapes, and the mighty Colorado River flowing through mesmerizing canyons. At Sorrel River Ranch Resort & Spa, find a charmingly rustic resort reminiscent of a more simple time, away from the constraints of the city. The natural beauty of the desert sweeps through authentically designed guest rooms, as sunlight streams through windows brightening the rich wood floors. Beamed ceilings and beautifully crafted four-poster beds complete your personal oasis. Stand-alone hydrotherapy soaking tubs provide a hint of modernity and luxury, while spacious private decks - complete with comforting rocking chairs - are the perfect place to watch the sun set.

Stunning scenery and the horseback rides with Jordan were the highlights. It is a ways from Moab and the parks with construction and one lane traffic in between. I wish I could give this resort a five but even a three might even be pushing it. I loved the animals (although the donkeys need a shelter) and the staff we encountered (Jordan, Hap, Marissa, Ryan, Miranda, Mickey, Courtney and Michael) were all very nice and tried so hard to make our stay enjoyable. They could only do so much so I am guessing that this place will not make it through the season. They are severely understaffed and the property, employees and guests are struggling. The owner clearly isn't committed to making this a successful resort and it shows. Incredibly overpriced and not a true resort nor even close to a spa. I don't believe they even have a massage therapist on staff. I feel bad for the employees that are trying to hang in there and for what is to become of the horses, goats, pigs, donkeys and chickens when it inevitably closes. If you have a reservation, cancel and if you're thinking of booking, don't.

Stayed two nights. $1100 per night in a room with no working AC and sleepless first night. Despite several calls during second day, nothing done. Finally moved to another room with only marginally better AC. Had to leave door open all night. Seemingly insufficient staffing and really poor guest attention. Also, despite cost, appears that no capital spending going into maintaining the resort at a decent level.

Sorrel River Ranch is a STUNNING property and amazing location. We were there during a quiet period, which was perfect because as wonderful as a property as this is, it is direly understaffed and you very much feel that in the service. The staff at the resort are all extremely friendly and helpful, there clearly just aren’t enough of them and we felt that in the service at the restaurant (long waits for food and bar service, food not arriving, etc) and the overall state of the property (broken lamps throughout the property, random equipment scattered throughout). The horseback riding experience with Jordan was a definite highlight and one of the best parts of our overall trip to Moab. We don’t mind paying for hotel rooms, especially for luxury experiences, but this room and the property didn’t feel well maintained or worth the price point. The manager on site was wonderful and so kind - I think they just don’t have the staff to run the resort they way they want to and the owners clearly haven’t invested in maintaining or updating the property.

I took my family to Sorrel River Ranch for spring break. The setting is absolutely beautiful, but the property is poorly maintained, not clean (my bed had sand in it) and could use major upgrades. Additionally, it is understaffed. The staff tries hard, but it is not a luxury experience as the price insinuates. Also, I booked my room through American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts and paid in full. I have now also been charged by the hotel directly without my authorization. I have emailed and called the manager every day for the last week and a half and provided the documentation, but he (Brennan) refuses to call me back or refund the double cost for a stay. There are other places in Moab that are worth your stay, but this one is not worth the money.

Sorrel River Ranch Review – to the Sorrel Management Team Misleading Advertising – Read Before Booking We recently stayed at your Sorrel River Ranch and feel compelled to provide this feedback to your management team. Please note, my wife and I have travelled extensively and have stayed at numerous true luxury resorts worldwide. Never have we felt so compelled to write a review such as this, but in the interest of future customers, we felt it necessary documented and supported with photos we took during our stay (see attached word document). Based on our experience, the resort is grossly misrepresented online and does not meet the standards of a luxury property by any reasonable definition. Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that the property was severely neglected and understaffed, and at times appeared to be on the verge of operational failure. Grounds & Facilities The outdoor areas were in a state of serious disrepair: • Weeds were overgrown throughout the property, including the so-called “farm-to-table” garden. • Communal lawn areas by the river were completely unusable due to weeds and chairs that had not been cleaned. • Many pathway lights were broken, damaged, or not functioning at all, creating unsafe walking conditions at night. • Trash cans along the walkways were not emptied during our entire four-day stay. • The “purified” water fountain near the tennis courts was leaking, covered in calcium buildup, had an unpleasant odor, and appeared unhygienic. • Tennis court bathrooms were locked, with weather stripping peeling off and exposed to the elements. • The central water fountain feature was turned off and filled with dirt and debris. • Tennis courts were cluttered with broken or disorganized equipment and looked as though they had not been maintained or cleaned in a long time. This level of neglect is completely unacceptable, especially for a resort marketed as “luxury”. Guest Services & Staffing The staff who were present were polite and clearly doing their best, but they were understaffed, unsupported, and visibly embarrassed by the conditions. • There were no bell staff and no luggage carts available. A front desk employee offered to help, but this should not be the guest’s responsibility. • The heating system in our room did not function properly. We called for assistance and were told someone would come immediately. No one came—after waiting 3.5 hours. We went without heat during our entire stay. • Our room had an ice bucket but no information on where to get ice. When we called the front desk, we were told ice was only available at the bar and we must bring the bucket ourselves. This is far below even basic hotel standards. Dining Experience (Severely Deficient) Dinner service was chaotic and unacceptable: • We arrived at the upstairs restaurant and were ignored for 15 minutes. • After that, and requesting an outdoor table, we were told the restaurant was short-staffed and that outside tables needed to be bussed. We waited another 30 minutes to be seated. • Drink orders were taken 20 minutes after seating. • Only one drink arrived; the second arrived 30 minutes later, and only after we personally had to ask a staff member who went to the bar to resolve it. • Our dinner never arrived after 1.5 hours. At 8:30 p.m., we asked for it to be boxed to take to our room. • The food arrived 30 minutes later cold, over salted and not the quality expected from a luxury resort. Other guests that evening experienced 1–3-hour delays, including families with young children who were visibly struggling and forced to return to their rooms while one parent waited for food. This was a consistent, widespread failure—not an isolated incident. Breakfast service was no better: • We placed a phone order and were told we would be notified when it was ready for us to pick up. • After 1 hour, we called back and were told the kitchen was “backed up” and it would be another 20–30 minutes. We cancelled our breakfast order and decided to go elsewhere. Additional service failures: • The bar ran out of a very common vodka. • There were no bar snacks available because they had “run out.” • Evening s’mores were limited to marshmallows because the resort had run out of chocolate. None of this aligns with a resort charging luxury-level prices. Overall Impression While the natural setting—the river and the surrounding mountains—is beautiful, the resort itself is not. We traveled (drove) over 1,000 miles expecting a relaxing luxury experience in a ranch setting. Instead, we encountered: • Poor maintenance • Chronic understaffing • Unsafe conditions • Extreme service delays • A property that felt abandoned and mismanaged The few staff members we interacted with were courteous but clearly demoralized and overwhelmed—an unfair position to put employees in. Based on conversations we had (including with staff later encountered at Red Cliffs Lodge, where we enjoyed an excellent five-star dining experience), it is clear these issues are well known in the community. Final Verdict The advertising for Sorrel River Ranch is deeply misleading. This is not a luxury resort, and charging premium rates for this level of service and upkeep is unjustifiable. Until there is serious reinvestment in maintenance, staffing, and honest marketing, we will strongly recommend avoiding this property.
