Montreal is a city filled with energy, romance and culture, known for its splendid cuisine, sunny terraces, art and diversity. The same applies to Hotel Nelligan. Nestled in two adjoining nineteenth century buildings on picturesque Saint-Paul Street, the hotel is the perfect place to get acquainted with the charms of Old Montreal, like the Basilica Notre-Dame, the Old Port and Chinatown. The 105 rooms of the hotel feature fireplaces, exposed stone, brick walls, double whirlpool tubs, and tasteful furnishings. With such a graceful atmosphere, you will be continually reminded that this is a hip and happening metropolitan boutique hotel.

It was our anniversary and we wanted to make sure we had exactly the type of room we wanted for our stay. Since Hotel Nelligan is undergoing renovations, we called the hotel to ensure booking success. Unfortunately, the front desk staffer was untrained so we had to call multiple times after we received no email confirmation, each time we were told that everything was fine. As it turns out, this hotel person entered our email address incorrectly, email went to a random other person in the US who assumed this was fraud and he canceled our reservation. We knew this after he called us to see if we were legit. Nice guy, but the hotel gave him our phone number, address and news that it was our anniversary. At least he wished us a happy anniversary which was nice. The first night at Nelligan started well as our room was very nice and faced the Port area. The next morning at 6am, we discovered that the renovations were taking place in the back half of the hotel, one room away from our room. A large person was walking on the roof and dropped a pile of construction material right over our heads. Good morning!! Construction commenced with noise coming from above and next to our room, even after we were told by the front desk that we wouldn't hear anything. We noted how Montreal garbage and recycling (especially glass) is taken care of very early in the morning as well, right below our window. Working with the front desk manager, we moved to a similar room, one that was already renovated, on the front of the hotel. Nice room but similar issues with noise as we discovered Rue Saint-Paul Ouest (the street in front of the hotel) was being repaved from brick to cobblestones from now until Spring 2026. Very nice! But, at 6am we heard large trucks arriving with material, jackhammers removing old material and brick saws cutting new stone. Every morning. Much worse than the late night revelers who were leaving bars and restaurants around midnight each night, something that is really unavoidable but just added to the question of "how does anyone sleep in this hotel?" Pros: - Location is very close the the Port which was nice. In fact we walked almost everywhere from this hotel given its location in Montreal. - The rooms featured old brick on the wall. Heated tile floors in the bathroom Cons: - Noisy. Front desk staff less like a luxury (expensive) hotel and more unaware of what is going on in their own hotel or just outside. - Mama C restaurant is crazy expensive and the casual bar area has terrible service and super expensive food. (example: A greek salad for CAD $30)

Want the quintessential Montreal experience? Hotel Nelligan is located in the very heart of Old Montreal, where you can be forgiven for thinking you are in Europe. Looking out the window of our suite, we see cobblestone streets, historic facades and beautiful cafes. Our suite had high ceilings, an exposed brick wall and a lovely fireplace - even though Montreal is only 5 hours by train from Toronto we felt transported to a different world. Our king bed was - to quote Goldilocks - just perfect, with quality linens and excellent pillows. (For me, good linens and pillows make all the difference.) What really makes Hotel Nelligan stand out, however, is the incredibly personalized service. You can feel you are in a family run hotel. Everyone seems genuinely proud to work there and we were treated with extreme kindness throughout our stay. The sommelier took the time to explain Greek wines to us, the front desk did not lose patience with me when I locked myself out of my room (twice) and even the breakfast waitress was attentive in explaining the choices. If you stay at Hotel Nelligan please do try the in-house restaurant Mama C - the greek inspired menu blew even my foodie husband away. The grilled octopus in chick pea hummus is a must try - I would go back just for that. Wonderful hotel.

Lovely space, great staff, three excellent restaurants. There is some construction in the area that is easy to navigate around. Lots of nice shops and restaurants close by.

The signature suite we had for ten days was just great. It had a newly renovated bathroom, a large sitting area with a fake fireplace and a veiw of Rue St. Paul right out our window. The staff was just great at all times. They were very helpful and the Concierage service was top drawer. The price was quite good for a small suite and actually cost less than what we would have paid at the Marriott for just a sleeping room. Mamma C restaurant was excellent in terms of the service and the food and the ambiance was wonderul. We did have just a couple of small problems with the room but they were addressed rapidly and correctly. We plan to return there again in the future and can highly recommend the Hotel Nelligan, which is directly in Old Town Montreal, to those interested in more of an up-scale experience. Our thanks to all of the staff.

Hotel Nelligan was lovely, the location is superb, and the staff professional with personal touches. Our room was fantastic, bigger than any we had ever stayed in, and the restaurant was so delicious. When we couldn't finish our dessert, they sent it to our room for us to enjoy later

We recently booked the Hotel Nelligan. We stayed in a uniquely decorated and very stylish room. The king bed was heavenly with luxury linens. Every afternoon we sipped complimentary wine and ate French cheeses by the lobby fire. The staff could not have been more courteous.

We discovered nothing less than excellent room service, a first-class restaurant and everyone at the hotel doing their best to assure a first-class experience. While the weather was cold, the staff always made us feel warm, from our entry into the lobby, throughout our stay. This hotel is a definite must for future stays in Montreal.
