Classic Beauty

Beautiful hotel with great amenities. We liked its location next to Notre Dame and a short walk to the old port attractions. Make a reservation at the Japanese restaurant unless you want to eat at 5:00 or 9:00 PM. Great food at either restaurant at the hotel.

Great location in old Montreal

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This hotel is in the old town district of Montreal where I wanted to stay. It is not too far from the Place D’Armes metro station. I arrived about 3 pm and was able to check in quite easily. They do take $100 per night of your stay as a deposit, which was a bit of a surprise, as I am used to hotels taking $100 for the whole stay. This could be because there is a mini bar in the room and some very expensive snacks. Even the small plastic bottles of water were $7 each!! Needless to say I didn’t touch them. The room itself was very nice, larger than expected for a double. There was a large shower room, modern looking, with a shower with multiple jets and the water was hot with decent pressure. There were also some lovely smelling shampoo / shower gel etc - Santal33 which was a brand I was not familiar with. The towels appeared new as did the bathrobes which were provided. The room was equipped with a safe, small fridge (full of mini bar stuff!), iron, hairdryer and coffee maker. I asked for a kettle and one was provided. The TV in the room had no channel guide available but this seems to be a common theme in Canadian hotels I have stayed in. It is irritating to me as someone who does not live in Canada and is not familiar with all the multiple channels. Also quite a few of the channels I wanted to watch dropped out of service intermittently. As well as a long desk under the TV, there was also a comfortable armchair with footstool and side table and a lamp over it. The lighting throughout the room appeared to be well thought out, as did the decor. The staff I did have interactions with were all very polite and helpful, particularly the concierge. I did not eat in either of the restaurants as there was so much else available in the area. One issue I had was the noise - there are large building sites on both sides of the hotel, which is nothing the hotel can control for. However the one at the front of the hotel is much closer than the one at the back and I was on the third floor at the front so very close to the site. Which seemed to start before 7 a.m. each morning I was there. It was very noisy, and I am an early riser so ordinarily would not have been bothered, but on the middle night of my three night stay I was also woken up by a couple in the room next door to me having a very loud and lengthy conversation/argument in the corridor outside my room before continuing in their room. A second issue was that I phoned Housekeeping to tell them I did not want my room cleaned, and I also left a ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door but it was clear that someone had been in and replaced my towels and made my bed. I found this irritating rather than helpful! Apart from the noise issues this was a really nice hotel, spread across four old buildings on about 6 floors. It would be somewhere I would stay again but I would request a room at the back of the hotel on a high floor, if I did stay again.

Great Meeting and Outstanding Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We had the pleasure to work with Pascal Ambrosi for the planning and execution of our meeting early March. Pascal and his team were always supportive and provided outstanding service, even with our changing agenda timings on occasion. Our meeting also required accommodations; with all guests expressing positive reviews for the rooms, amenities and hotel location. We currently have planning underway to host another meeting at the hotel in early summer.

At the Hotel Place d’Armes, we arrived very late one night and had an unbelievable late night dinner at the adjoining restaurant. The hotel itself is very nice and well-maintained, and the rooms were great. I contacted the concierge beforehand and they really set me up with some great advice on restaurants and things to do.
