Wonderful, helpful staff. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Location can’t be beat. The bar was nice for a drink. We will return.

A Great Experience at Hôtel Saint-Sulpice

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Hôtel Saint-Sulpice is a beautiful hotel! My family and I were visiting Montréal for the first time and one of the best decisions I made was choosing to stay at Hôtel Saint-Sulpice. Perfectly positioned in the heart of Old Montréal, a wide variety of activities, food, and cultural wonders were within walking distance of the hotel. Even the metro was near by in the event that we wanted to branch out further. The service we received even before we stepped foot in Montréal to the day we checked out was nothing short of remarkable. Sara from the concierge team assisted me over email with several inquiries, and she was just as kind and helpful in person. I regret that I do not remember the bellman’s name but there was a bellman who assisted us during our check-in who was kind, personable, and had the most friendly spirit each time we saw him after. Two front desk agents were so sweet to my 11-month old daughter, giving her a stuffed animal that she certainly fell in love with. I believe that special touch for their smallest guests is one they should always be proud of! There was also a front desk agent who worked the night shift on one evening of our stay who taught us a little French. Now let’s talk about the room. Our room was breathtaking. The online photos do not do justice to the beauty that is the Apartment Saint Paul. The room was very spacious, clean, cozy, and it had such a beautiful view. One of my favorite features was the outdoor terrace with the table and chairs. Even my daughter loved the room. When we settled in, she crawled around with laughter and excitement for quite some time. Ultimately, I would be remiss if I visited Montréal again and did not stay at Hôtel Saint-Sulpice. As a frequent traveler and a hotelier myself, I can undoubtedly say that Hôtel Saint-Sulpice has been the best hospitality experience I have ever had. I appreciate everyone at Hôtel Saint-Sulpice who had even a small hand in making my family’s experience a memorable one!

Great for a vacation, But

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I recently stayed at a hotel in Old Montréal and overall had a really enjoyable experience—especially from a leisure perspective. The location is hard to beat. Being right in the heart of the historic district meant I could walk to great restaurants, cafés, and the waterfront within minutes. The charm of the surrounding cobblestone streets and architecture really added to the vacation feel. The hotel itself was clean, well-maintained, and had a lot of character that fit perfectly with the Old City vibe. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the overall atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming—exactly what you’d want for a getaway. That said, I wouldn’t recommend it as a business-friendly stay. The room, while comfortable, didn’t offer much in terms of a functional workspace. There wasn’t a proper desk setup, and seating wasn’t ideal for working for extended periods. If you’re planning to spend a lot of time on a laptop or taking calls, it could be a bit frustrating. In short, it’s a great choice for a vacation where you want to enjoy Montréal and soak in the surroundings—but if you’re traveling for business or need a productive in-room work environment, you may want to look elsewhere.

There are better options

I’ve stayed at this property multiple times before its renovation, and unfortunately, the redesign has stripped away nearly everything that made it worth returning to. The most immediate issue is the lighting. The suite is exceptionally dim to the point of being impractical. The living room had a single standing lamp that didn’t function, and there are no overhead lights anywhere. The bedroom relies on two small bedside fixtures and a weak closet light. The bathroom is even worse, with lighting positioned behind you at the sink, rendering the mirror nearly useless for basic tasks. It feels less like a boutique hotel and more like a poorly lit basement. The bathroom layout itself is cramped and inefficient. Counter space is minimal due to unnecessary items occupying the vanity. The shower is only partially enclosed, so water spreads across the floor. To make matters worse, the bathroom door opens inward and interferes with access to the sink unless it’s fully closed. The overall design aesthetic is another disappointment. The previous charm of exposed stone and brick—something that defines Old Montreal—has been replaced with generic dark wood and muted taupe tones. The result is bland and somewhat depressing, with none of the character you’d expect from a boutique hotel in this area. Even the windows and finishes feel uninspired. Technology in the room was equally frustrating. Despite having two TVs, neither functioned properly. Channel selection is limited, but more concerning is that streaming options were unusable. There was no Netflix app available, AirPlay casting from an iPhone did not work, and even the Prime Video app failed due to what appeared to be a hardware issue. Staff attempted to assist but were unable to resolve any of these problems. Basic amenities are also lacking. There is no minibar in the room, which is unusual for a suite at this price point, and there are no late-night in-room dining options available. For a hotel in a major tourist area, that absence feels like an oversight. What makes this especially disappointing is that this hotel used to have a distinct identity and charm. The renovation has removed that entirely without replacing it with anything of value. There are many excellent boutique hotel options in Old Montreal. This is no longer one of them, and there’s little reason to choose it over the competition.

Enjoyed our stay. Warm, friendly greeting upon arrival. Concierge met all of our requests and needs. Rooms spacious and nicely decorated. Great location for exploring Old Montreal and walkable to shopping and other attractions.

We went over the July 4 holiday and stayed at Le Saint-Sulpice Hotel in Montreal, which was a great luxury suites hotel. Everything was easy on the booking end and the package was as good or better than stated.

I stayed at Le Saint-Sulpice in Montreal from the 1st to the 4th of November, 2004, and I absolutely loved it and am hoping to go back in the summer. So, without a doubt my experience was a very happy one. Thank You.
