Excellent Location, Unacceptable Failures in Basic Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We stayed at Hotel Saint-Sulpice for three nights (Oct 10-13) and were very disappointed. The problems started before we even arrived, when a text I sent to the hotel to arrange something for our room was never answered. Once there, the mattress was uncomfortably hard. It took reporting it in the morning and then calling again that evening to finally get a mattress topper after front desk staff told us it would be no issue at all. Worse than that, our room was not cleaned for two straight days. On both Saturday and Sunday, we came back after a full day of exploring Montreal (leaving 10am/11am returning at 5pm/7pm) to a room that hadn't been touched—Garbages left half full, no clean towels, no coffee refills. no made bed, nothing. We only learned about their 'digital guest service' platform from a survey after we left; it was never mentioned to us. Overall, the hotel failed on the most important things: comfort and cleanliness. Look for another hotel. he excellent location cannot make up for a hotel that fails to provide a comfortable bed or a clean room. The premium price we paid was for a service level that was simply not delivered. Based on this experience, we strongly advise other travelers to look elsewhere.

Great Hotel, But One Major Disappointment

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We've stayed here pre and post renovation now. Both times the staff has been friendly and helpful (for the most part, more on that later), and the rooms have been clean and comfortable. The post renovation rooms in particular are beautiful. And you can't beat the location in the Old Port near many shops, restaurants, and the pier. (And the excellent Spa Scandinave, which is discounted to St. Sulpice guests.) The problem that needs to be addressed is the WiFi. The signal was terrible both times we stayed. Not the biggest issue pre-renovation, but post-renovation it's a problem because the new TVs are smart TVs. If the WiFi is terrible, the TVs buffer. If it's an issue for us, it will definitely be an issue for families that want to occupy their kids with cartoons. I will say that when we stayed this time, the hotel experienced some unique situations. We had to evacuate early in the trip because nearby construction caused a problem, and then the city forced the hotel to turn off electricity for 10 hours on our final day, which turned out to be 12 hours when it was all said and done. Situations like this do happen, and it was frustrating. We were hoping that the hotel would make it right for everyone with a reimbursement, And they eventually did (I think.) But the problem was that at first, they only seemed to reimburse the people that complained the loudest. We booked two rooms. One was reimbursed at half price for one of the rooms (on the affected night) but not the other. So when we inquired about the reimbursement for the other room, the person on the phone had a little bit of an attitude about it before finally going to the manager and getting the discount approved. That they wouldn't think to discount everyone that stayed there that day, but rather only reimburse the people that complained is HIGHLY disappointing. Bottom line: We would stay here again, and I'd recommend the hotel to anyone who asks. I DO hope that their plan of action for crisis management improves. (I also hope they don't have any more crises befall them.)

I plan to return again and again

I returned to Montreal specifically to stay at Hotel Saint Sulpice after visiting last year. The design, staff and location combine to provide a wonderfully pleasant stay—it feels like home within minutes of arrival. I plan to visit again and I will bring new friends each time so that they may enjoy this special hotel in a special city.

Our stay was wonderful! Very accommodating staff, the room was beautiful and very clean. The location worked out well, just a short walk from the cruise ship.

We went over the July 4 holiday and stayed at Le Saint-Sulpice Hotel in Montreal, which was a great luxury suites hotel. Everything was easy on the booking end and the package was as good or better than stated.

I stayed at Le Saint-Sulpice in Montreal from the 1st to the 4th of November, 2004, and I absolutely loved it and am hoping to go back in the summer. So, without a doubt my experience was a very happy one. Thank You.
