Reviews for Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth

Worse Fairmont hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Not worthy of a Fairmont! This hotel is in need of new management and a few tired waiting staff at Rosélys restaurant our waiter couldn’t careless about his customers! We stayed at the hotel the weekend of August 1st! It started at the valet parking we waited 45 minutes before we could leave the car and go to the check in desk! These men at the valet parking were sweating bullets running to get cars and park the new arrivals because they were short staffed! The hotel was full because of the Tennis tournament and other shows going on in Montreal! Our first night we were awakened by a fire alarm at 4am we started evacuating from our 8th floor, once we reached the lobby we were told to go back to our rooms because it was a false alarm! We were back in the room and in our bed then 10 minutes later fire alarm again and the intercom telling everyone to evacuate! Again we went down the emergency stairs again and walked outside just across the street to the cathedral, it was heartbreaking to see young families carrying their babies and walking down the emergency stairs from the higher floors! We were told that it was a homeless person that pulled the alarm twice! Also someone in the hotel staff told me that they only had 2 security staff present on that night!!! That is unacceptable and a total lack of security level on the management part, remember the hotel was at total occupancy! In my opinion and I have stayed in many Fairmont hotels in Canada this is the worse! This hotel should be removed from the Fairmont family! On Check out they offered 50% off for the night of the fire alarm I refused the clerk went to the back to speak to his manager he came back offering us one night free! In the valet parking same problem this time they could not find my car keys! It took a good 30 minutes before they were found! Once again these guys we’re running like crazy because of lack of personnel! I do not recommend this hotel sorry!

Mixed experiences

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Firstly I must say the hotel looked impeccable and very nice The reception to front desk staff was excellent. I wrote a review and I had to delete it as the final day I noted a rather disturbing issue . The stay was very good. The staff excellent and the food was good. The last day before checking out I gathered my luggage and noticed a sizable red stain..it looked like blood. I was a bit shocked and taken back at this siutaion. I reported it to the management and they were kind enough to refund one night. That was not the issue. I was taken aback by this. These things should never happen. I am posting the picture as it's disturbing to my self. I will also add some good pictures as well. Please ensure your hotel standards are maintained. I appreciate your staff for the dedication and effort towards clients. I also noticed the cloths closet door mirror was cracked and the door lock was jammed. Maintainece came in and fixed the issue. Also the tub was filling up and water was retaining on the bath tub. I wanted to share this experience. It could have been better. Just a bit shocked. .

Comfortable stay at One Bedroom Suite with a dog

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed one night at a one bedroom suite and found the stay comfortable for a family with two children and a dog. The location is central and within a walking distance to many spots in Montreal. We appreciated having a park right next door to take our dog. The suite was spacious and had a powder room which came in handy and the beds were comfortable. They had cute dog treats that my dog loved. As a diamond member, I could access the gold lounge but unfortunately I was not able to make it for any food since I checked in very late and checked out before they started serving snacks. There was no upgrade for being an Accor diamond member. I was told that I already booked the highest category room and nothing else was available. They provided some welcome sweets in the room which was a nice touch. We had a choice of having a complimentary breakfast at the gold lounge or the restaurant downstairs. We were told to go to Roselys for breakfast. However, once we got there, they told us it was closed and asked us to go to the Marche as it was Sunday. The breakfast there was more like fast food self service with limited choices rather than a full serviced buffet. The food was okay just not what we were expecting from Sunday breakfast from Fairmont. Maybe I should have just chosen the gold lounge for breakfast. All in all, it is a nice place to stay when in Montreal especially with pets and I will make sure to check timings for food offerings at the gold lounge as this is only offered at specific times.

Nice for Rail Connections

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This hotel is nice but not as nice as other Fairmont properties I have been to. The rooms are quite small and the bathrooms are tiny. The breakfast buffet was very high quality, and the fitness center was very large and nice. The indoor swimming pool was nice for exercising, though the hot tub was lukewarm only. This hotel is very convenient for making rail connections as it connects directly to the main train station.

I enjoyed three nights at the Queen Elizabeth in May 2024 and could not have been more pleased, with just a few exceptions. Let's start with the positive first. Every staff person I encountered was extraordinarily friendly, helpful, and kind. The Signature amenities were explained to me without my having to ask. I was greeted by name almost without exception and the person who cleaned my room left me the nicest note thanking me for a tip I'd left. It's those little things that make such a difference.

Everything about the property has been recently updated and it looks great. The fitness center is especially modern and well-equipped. The key cards are wooden rather than plastic -- another small detail that made my stay more memorable. The cocktail bar is hopping with a DJ and inventive cocktails - worth the price in opinion. In terms of location, you couldn't ask for anything better. Just steps away from the main shopping and entertainment areas, metro stations, and railway.

Now a few gripes. I booked a 420 sq ft. Deluxe Room which was supposed to have a view. I was upgraded to a Jr. Suite of the same size, but without a view and felt small. But for a family, it would be perfect because the two rooms are separate and the living area has a powder room. But the view... any room that is on the back side of the hotel looks out over the rooftops of office buildings and nothing more. Be sure to request a room with a view of the Cathedral or the plaza. And... the bathroom was tiny! I mean, really tiny.

The restaurant's buffet breakfast was as expected. Aren't all buffets the same no matter where you are? I ate dinner there the first night and it was excellent, but I never returned because the menu was so limited. Not even a salad! Fortunately, the room service menu offered a little more variety.

Final note: for spa lovers, the Queen Elizabeth has what I consider treatment rooms, not a spa. There is no relaxation room, hydrotherapy circuit, etc. However, the fitness center has a nice pool and Jacuzzi and the large changing rooms have single-sex saunas. I'd rate this property and my experience a 4-1/2 and would definitely stay again.

The hospitality, the service, the comfortable bed, the pool, the food! Everything is always extraordinary here!

My whole family loved our stay at the Queen Elizabeth. It is a perfect location especially after taking the train from Quebec to Montreal. Our dinner at The Beaver Club was the highlight of my trip to Canada. It is quite rare when you dine in a restaurant that has lovely ambiance, exemplary service, and food which makes your taste buds jump for joy.

I was amazed with the service of the hotel, all your requests and info needs are fulfilled, and with great speed. The location is excellent in the downtown of Montreal.

I recently visited Montreal. My stay at the Queen Elizabeth was such a delightful experience I will not soon forget. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff is out of this world, they really make you feel like you are important, like someone very special, they seem to go out of their way to help you. A special thanks to Viviane who works at the front desk, she was so helpful and thoughtful, a real gem. I also would like to thank César who was a great help. They are top of the line. By the way, the food and service at The Beaver Club is excellent.
