Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile Hotel

Our stay at Sofitel Montréal fell shockingly short of luxury standards due to continuous staff carelessness and privacy breaches. On our first morning, a housekeeper walked directly into our room unannounced while we were undressed. This disregard for guest comfort carried over to the hotel bar, where staff were rushed and dismissive—failing to explain our welcome vouchers and completely ignoring us while serving complimentary snacks and water to neighboring guests. The inattention to detail extended to the front desk, where staff misspelled my wife’s name on reservations, post-stay emails and hung up on us when we called about a delayed breakfast before our train. Breakfast arrived 20 minutes late without explanation or apology. Between privacy violations and cold, dismissive service, this stay was stressful and unwelcoming—I strongly advise staying elsewhere until management addresses staff training.

We stayed for 5 nights in a superior king room. It was a decent size and had everything we needed. The bed was far too soft for my liking and gave me a sore back. That's personal preference of course but it would put me off staying here again. It's a well known fact that a firmer mattress is better for comfort and posture. Otherwise the room was very good. Clean, nespresso machine, good storage, decent shower. The housekeeping was a little inconsistent. One day they forgot to top up our coffee capsules. No problem I thought, I'll just call for them to bring some to the room. It's a 5 star hotel after all. 30 minutes later, nobody had arrived so I called again. The woman who answered the phone was really rude, implying I was impatient and had only called 11 minutes ago. It was definitely over 30 minutes and I don't expect to be spoken to like that by staff in a 5 star hotel. The housekeeping was good some days and on other days they missed things. We even found a used bottle cork and a random screw lying on the floor from previous guests. Clearly had been missed. This is a bit random but we also found the toilet paper really cheap, thin and poor quality. Not what I'd expect in a 5 star hotel. The restaurant was excellent for dinner and I've written a separate review for that. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel as it was over priced compared to many excellent breakfast places nearby. Reception staff were all very good and the concierge was excellent. The valet parking guys were great. The gym was pretty good and appreciated it having a sauna. The gym was also really quiet most days which was perhaps just luck, but meant no waiting for equipment. Overall I'd say this Sofitel is a 4 star hotel, not 5. I'd still recommend it overall but I'll perhaps try somewhere else when I'm next in Montréal.

Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms, very accommodating staff

The rooms are quiet, the beds are comfortable, and the decor is great throughout the hotel. However, the bedroom air con is annoying. It switches “on”, gets to a temperature, the switches “off”. Then, about 5 minutes later, it switches on. It’s not possible to set the fan to “permanently on”. Also, my confirmation said, “including buffet breakfast” - but there is no buffer, only a fussy à la carte. The staff directed me towards the continental breakfast, which did not represent value. I would stay again - until the Intercontinental reopens.

This is a fantastic hotel located in downtown Montreal just a stones throw away from Mont Royale (the famous mountain from which Montreal got its name) and McGill University. It's luxurious and simultaneously practical. I love this place. The restaurant is great and the Sofitel team go out of their way to make you feel at home. Special thanks to Frederique at the front desk who promptly attended to my queries. I will definitely be staying at this hotel the next time I visit the city. The beds are so comfortable (they even have a sleep menu where you can choose the type of pillow and other items to improve your nights rest), and the rooms are quiet. My experience at Sofitel Montreal positively reinforces my decision to be loyal to hotels within the Accor group umbrella.
