About the Hotel

Built in 1906, Le Montreux Palace is situated on the shores of Switzerland's Lake Geneva, overlooking the Alps. This opulent 19-century hotel has hosted Russian tsars, Sarah Bernhardt, Richard Strauss (who was inspired to compose his most famous waltzes here), and more recently, Sophia Loren, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson and Vladimir Nabokov. Lost its charm and sparkle

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Sad to write this as this was my 4th stay but given this visit it will be my last. Really lost its sparkle and some things really not ok for a hotel of this quality. Construction going on at the hotel was extremely disruptive this time (last time would hardly know it was going on). The room next door to mine was being renovated so very loud. Banging crashing and hammering from pre 9am to late afternoon. So no chance of a holiday lie in or napping in the room during the day. Scaffolding stopped next to my balcony and a lot of dust blew off it and at times debris and tape from it. Not pleasant or safe. Was cleaned up once a day by housekeeping but doesn’t help if you wanted to sit out there. Dust also blew off it into the room if you opened the door, it was nice weather so would have been nice and if happened during the day, was only cleaned up next morning so made room grimy. Lack of privacy also an issue as from in the room and from the bed I could see workmen and if I could see them, they could see me. I did think about asking for a room change but I figured they know what the disruption is and still put guests in so staff must think it’s acceptable. It really isn’t though for a hotel of this quality to have such disruption. Also unpleasant walking through corridors with work ongoing so exposed wires and strong smell of paint and I think glue. Air con didn’t seem to be working, had on lowest setting but room still boiling, did report but no change. A few other little things didn’t work as well like USB on bedside as an example. Odd for rooms that have just been refurbished. Staff on previous visits were attentive but not intrusive but that line was crossed a few times I felt, especially been called for nothing urgent when I had do not disturb button active. Spa treatments were excellent but one staff member in spa was snappy with my father. He asked for a robe (every visit been fine to collect a robe from spa) and staff member snapped he should use one from his room! Who wants to use a damp robe smelling of chlorine from the pool later in their room? Or have to go back to room instead of straight down to spa to get robe when can just get one in spa. Spa food was awful. A lot of bugs in the salad. Reported and they took affected dish off the bill. I have a condition that makes me allergic to environmental triggers. I reacted to the linens so asked for them to be boil washed without scent/chemicals and I was very pleased the hotel accommodated. However mid week my robe was changed to a regular one, I didn’t realise and used it and became unwell again. Housekeeping replaced it when I reported but no explanation as to why it was changed for one that I said I reacted to. Disappointed that happened as I felt allergies weren’t taken seriously. All in all very disappointed and was glad to leave. This visit will be our last (did have another stay booked for later in the year but will of course be cancelling). I’m really sad as this was a favourite place when staying in Switzerland.

Found Peace and Comfort in Montreux.

Wrapping up a solo snowboarding trip through the Swiss Alps, the Fairmont Montreux was planned to be my last destination to relax and recharge. This hotel was amazing. The spa is unreal, with beautiful views of Lake Geneva and the alps. Service is top notch. Will stay here every time I’m in Montreux!

A hotel in Montreux that showcases that service and old-world charm are still alive!

Excellent place to stay in the Montreux area! Currently undergoing construction, but since it was Christmas time, we only heard noise on the first day - the workers were off after that! Since it was Christmas time, the famous Montreux Christmas Market was in full swing and only steps from the front of the hotel. The Palace has an excellent buffet breakfast that has something for everyone. We would really like to give a big thank you to the excellent staff at breakfast: Carlos, Leonilde and Luic (as well as others) - they made sure that everyone was satisfied at our table and Luic did an fantastic job preparing my omelet (I'm very picky about it not being overcooked). The sauna was as we remembered after coming here for many years. There are updates to the hotel: doors, where there were none before, that open automatically - nice touch. We hope that the finished version will hold all the charm of its previous iteration. Beautiful views from our room of the lake and the mountains in France. Excellent location for traveling and visiting France, Broc, Gruyere, Geneva, Bern, Interlaken, etc. Highly recommended treating yourself to this experience.

Enjoy the view

Hotel is excelente Staff are all excellent from reception to spa to breakfast team and off course housekeeping. Also we used the garage. Know that your car will sleep with the gentle smell of…. Spa (if this is not luxury 🤔 …) easy to park spots. We didn’t enjoy the Sunday brunch but we saw the preparation of it and it really looks fantastic. The only ( - )is that the App from ALL is not well “ synchronized” with the reservation system from Hotels. The app shows a different price from the original (and accepted) offer. The original offer being more expensive. This makes it difficult for reception staff. Which one is the good price? On the other side, the + about the app is that you can share the points with other loyalty programs. So I guess the communication system between ALL app and the hotel must be fixed. Anyway, a pleasure to stay there

Great location, staff and style!

We stayed here for 4 nights and was welcomed to the hotel by Francois who quickly booked us in, and then very surprisingly escorted us to our room and showed us around the facilities it had. A very nice touch which made us feel very special. Thank you Francois! It was a delux lake view room, which did have the amazing lake and mountains as the view. We had a box of chocloates when we got back later that evening and our bed had been turned down each night with a chocolate laying in wait! The next evening whe we returned, the staff had somehow found out it was my birthday and there was a lovely chocolate patisserie (and 2 forks which was a shame as I then had to share it). It tasted amazing. The hotel has charm and character which is still showing through, all the way from reception to the "ballroom" and dining rooms. At breakfast each morning we were welcomed and shown to our table which had more great views over the lake and mountains. Alena made us again feel very welcomed and showed interest in our plans for the day as well as sharing any experiences and humour. A lovely lady! The staff are all very polite though, warm and welcoming - well done to the management on their choices for staff. The pillows are the fluffiest we have experienced in our travels (I had to put this as it was the text being suggested in the review box before writing, but it is also so very true. Very comfortable bed and pillows!
