A beacon of refinement in a storied European city, The Charles Hotel Munich is a taste of upscale luxury in Munich. Established in 2007 and built by architect Christian Sattler on the site of a former university library, this tasteful hotel is part of the new Lenbach Gardens. The walls within display a large collection of original paintings by the celebrated Franz von Lenbach, a 19th-century German artist, blended dynamically with modern elements and Art Deco-inspired shapes. Individual character and charm grace each of The Charles Hotel's 160 rooms and suites, many of which offer views of the city or surrounding gardens. Among the most spacious in the city, the guest abodes here are outfitted with top-of-the-line features like Bavarian limestone finishes, towering picture windows, French balconies, flat-screen televisions, and wireless internet access. A further welcome in the midst of a lively city, The Charles SPA offers an indoor pool, heated mosaic lounge chairs, a Finnish sauna and aromatherapy steam bath, and a fully equipped TechnoGym fitness center - not to mention the menu of invigorating and relaxing treatments. Start with a Surrender Massage and then try the Detox Body Ritual to refresh and renew like never before. This is your time, at The Charles Hotel.

Excellent service and facilities in a central (5 mins walk to central station, 10 to Old Town) but calm setting. Superb breakfast, great gym and spa, and loved a calm quiet drink in the bar to end an evening.

The Charles is by far one of the best hotels in Munich. I frequently stay there when I’m in Munich for business. It is very conveniently located near the heart of the city. The main pedestrian areas are an easy walk from the hotel. In spite of being near everything, it is located on a quiet street next to a park. Guests get the best of both worlds - near the action but in a quiet area. All Rocco Forte Hotels, include the Charles, have a classically cool Italian vibe. The lobby lounge and cafe are both excellent. In summer, sitting outdoors with a park across the street is perfect. And one can’t go wrong ordering a nice summer drink to relax after a long day. The staff are very responsive, formal (like any tiptop hotel) and friendly. I like the style. When I checked in, I was greeted by one of the managers who wanted to make sure that I was fine after travelling from the Far East. I had to made a change to my reservation, which they were able to do immediately even through it was a busy time. Using WhatsApp to communicate with the staff was a nice touch and made it convenient. The gym has most everything one needs for a solid workout. Sometimes I’ll use the spa. The spa isn’t cheap, but it offers all sorts of treatments. I’ve used it before as has my spouse when she travels with me. Overall, the Charles is a fantastic hotel and no doubt I will return.

From the moment we arrived, the reception team made us feel genuinely welcome, with a warm, professional service that set the tone for our entire stay. Every interaction was effortless, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. A special mention has to go to the Guest Services team, and especially Lena, our concierge. Lena was truly remarkable. Her knowledge, thoughtful recommendations, and genuine passion for creating unforgettable experiences helped turn our trip into a lifetime of memories. From arranging the perfect outings to sharing local gems, she went above and beyond in every way. Luxury hotels are defined by their people, and The Charles Hotel has some of the very best. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so special we’ll treasure the memories for years to come and can’t wait to return.

Location is excellent, rooms lovely, staff fabulous but the restaurant when busy lets itself down. Either not enough service staff or the kitchen is understaffed as the wait on the night we arrived was ridiculous! Not very family orientated… over an hour for kids to be served a simple meal that was dried and very ordinary! The adults food came out over an hour after entree… they did apologise but for kids being fed, very, very slow! The rest of the hotel is exceptional!

We just returned from a truly memorable stay at The Charles Hotel. From the moment we arrived until our departure, the staff took care of us with genuine warmth and attentiveness — the kind of service that makes a stay unforgettable. A nice touch: being able to reach the concierge directly via WhatsApp made communication easy and seamless throughout our stay. Our suite, with its beautiful rotunda windows, was stunning — bright, elegant, and with a gorgeous view. Breakfast was equally impressive: a truly delicious and generous spread that set us up perfectly for the day. Dinner at Florio restaurant was a real highlight of our stay: the soft ambiance and carefully chosen music turned a simple dinner into an intimate, romantic evening. The location, quiet yet close to the Old Botanical Garden and Königsplatz, is a real plus. A hotel that fully lives up to its 5-star reputation. We will definitely be back!
