A beacon of refinement in a storied European city, The Charles Hotel Munich is a taste of upscale luxury in Munich. Established in 2007 and built by architect Christian Sattler on the site of a former university library, this tasteful hotel is part of the new Lenbach Gardens. The walls within display a large collection of original paintings by the celebrated Franz von Lenbach, a 19th-century German artist, blended dynamically with modern elements and Art Deco-inspired shapes. Individual character and charm grace each of The Charles Hotel's 160 rooms and suites, many of which offer views of the city or surrounding gardens. Among the most spacious in the city, the guest abodes here are outfitted with top-of-the-line features like Bavarian limestone finishes, towering picture windows, French balconies, flat-screen televisions, and wireless internet access. A further welcome in the midst of a lively city, The Charles SPA offers an indoor pool, heated mosaic lounge chairs, a Finnish sauna and aromatherapy steam bath, and a fully equipped TechnoGym fitness center - not to mention the menu of invigorating and relaxing treatments. Start with a Surrender Massage and then try the Detox Body Ritual to refresh and renew like never before. This is your time, at The Charles Hotel.

Simply the best hotel I have stayed at. The service was extraordinary, and the food and beverage service was top-notch as well. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. If you go, be ready to be impressed!

Munich strikes a perfect balance between timeless Bavarian heritage and vibrant modern urban life. Nestled in this culturally rich city, The Charles Hotel Munich stands as the flagship German property of Rocco Forte. Launched in 2007, it is the brand's sole hotel named after its founding Lord. Occupying the historic site of the Old University Library and tucked away in the quiet Lenbach Gardens of Maxvorstadt, the hotel boasts an exclusive and serene location in the old town. It is steps away from Königsplatz, the Old Botanical Garden and a cluster of top-tier art museums, with iconic landmarks including Marienplatz and Munich Frauenkirche within easy walking distance, offering guests seamless access to urban attractions alongside peaceful retreats. As a distinguished member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the property holds a Michelin two-key rating, securing its status among Munich's finest luxury accommodations. Blending 1930s Art Deco aesthetics with contemporary neoclassicism, the building features a creamy limestone facade, neatly arranged window grids and signature curved black wrought-iron balconies. Floor-to-ceiling dark glass panes frame lush outdoor scenery, while restrained, streamlined designs replace ornate embellishments. Exuding the understated elegance of a private residence, the hotel harmonizes effortlessly with the surrounding upscale residential neighborhood, merging authentic Bavarian charm with sophisticated Sicilian Italian flair. The hotel underwent a comprehensive full-property renovation in 2024, helmed by Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte's iconic creative director. Adhering to the design philosophy of "capturing the spirit of the city," she integrates modern aesthetics with local historical context and shapes interior spaces through minimalist subtractive design. Public areas adopt extensive neutral blank spaces and eliminate redundant decorations. Luxury is conveyed through bespoke furniture, curated antiques, refined textiles and layered lighting effects. Soft drapes in the lobby filter urban noise, while natural floral installations pay artistic tribute to the adjacent Old Botanical Garden, creating a gentle fusion of classical heritage and contemporary art. Upholding the brand's core ethos of "Hospitality from the Heart," the hotel redefines ultra-luxury service with impeccable subtlety and propriety. Prior to arrival, dedicated butlers consult guests' personal preferences in detail. Upon check-in, guests enjoy seamless service without lengthy waiting, with attentive concierge staff assisting with luggage and escorting guests to their rooms. Complimentary champagne and handmade local pastries deliver thoughtful touches, crafting a 24-hour private-residence-style immersive retreat. The hotel houses merely 160 rooms and suites, with even the entry-level rooms spanning a generous 40 square meters. Spacious and bright, each room features panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows that connect indoor comfort with old-town vistas, presenting a relaxing ambiance enhanced by flowing natural light. The 73-square-meter Signature Panoramic View Suite represents the pinnacle of the hotel's spatial aesthetics. Inspired by the neighboring Old Botanical Garden, the design blends vibrant botanical vitality with classic British retro style. Olive-green and apricot soft furnishings, botanical-patterned fabrics and vintage botanical print artworks echo one another, bringing the garden’s lush scenery indoors. The curved wrought-iron balcony offers a breathtaking 180-degree view overlooking Munich’s red-tiled rooftops and dense green foliage, with the distant silhouette of the Alps on the horizon. The city is bathed in warm golden glow at sunset, creating an unparalleled romantic atmosphere. Equipped with a fully functional private workspace fitted with high-end facilities, the suite delivers exquisite comfort for both leisure and business stays. Housing an 800-square-meter exclusive wellness sanctuary, The Charles Spa features private therapy rooms, dual-person treatment suites and one of Munich’s longest indoor hotel swimming pools. The tranquil, dimly lit space shields guests entirely from the bustle of the city. For dining, the newly launched Florio Munich marks the first global expansion of Rocco Forte’s iconic Florio restaurant beyond Italy, masterfully curated by renowned culinary creative director Fulvio Pierangelini. Embracing botanical-themed design, the restaurant boasts a sprawling terrace overlooking the Old Botanical Garden. Its breakfast menu ingeniously combines traditional Bavarian flavors and authentic Sicilian delicacies, covering an abundant self-service spread and customizable à-la-carte options. The exquisite three-course dinner presents a perfect fusion of northern and southern Italian flavors, with pan-seared scallops, parmesan ravioli and nut semifreddo ice cream unfolding an authentic journey of Italian romance layer by layer. The Charles Hotel Munich bridges Munich's classical heritage and modern romance through its understated sophisticated design, thoughtful personalized service and dual-cultural charm of Bavaria and Italy. More than a luxury accommodation, it serves as a window to perceive and understand the soul of Munich. Fully embodying Rocco Forte's enduring philosophy of refined luxury, it sets a flawless benchmark for high-end hospitality in the heart of Bavaria.

Three glorious nights in the most comfortable bed with an amazing view of the city from the airy 7th floor. Excellent service everywhere, a delicious breakfast (which included a honeycomb!), quiet music, an excellent bar area both inside and out. This is how you earn, and keep, our business.

My wife and I had the best experience at The Charles. Overall, every staff member treated us as honored guests. Our favorite server was Filo, just a delightful young woman who told us about her experience at a sister property in Sicily with her family when she served at dinner one evening. We saw her again the next night and she was genuinely interested in our excursion that day. What a fantastic experience. So glad our travel advisor recommended the Charles.
