There’s An Effortless Grace To Maçakızı That Feels Timeless

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Even in mid-October, Maçakızı in Bodrum was nothing short of magical. The air may have been softer and the pace a little slower, but the resort’s beauty remained undiminished. Sculptures and contemporary artworks punctuating the property’s pathways and terraces caught the light in unexpected ways, somehow blending them into the lush greenery that surrounded them. And the gardens were still in full bloom – a cascade of bougainvillaea, olive trees and Mediterranean foliage framing serene views over the bay. Our days unfolded with sumptuous breakfast spreads; delectable Turkish wines; delicious lunches of fresh salads; expertly prepared cocktails and elegant dinners that were as refined as ever, everything served with the warmth and attentiveness that make Maçakızı so special. There’s an effortless grace to life at Maçakızı that feels timeless. Art, nature, cuisine and hospitality – all perfectly in tune, even as the end of the season. With thanks to Andrew Jacobs and his wonderful team 🙏

Beautiful beach club in this iconic place!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

Stunning beach club! We originally booked the Med Cafe for lunch with a plan to continue exploring the Bodrum peninsula after lunch. It didnt take much persuading by the staff to change our plans and spend the afternoon at the beautiful beach club. The service was excellent, the buffet lunch was delicious and our loungers gave us a very comfortable bed overlooking the beautiful bay.

What a wonderful stay!

We stayed for one night at the Macakizi and if possible would give the hotel and our experience seven stars! It was truly a home away from home. From the promptness of the collection at the airport, until check out- nothing was too much. We arrived at 11:30am and already our room was ready and beach beds reserved. We also met the General Manager, Andrew (also a fellow Australian!) who was so friendly and personable. The staff made everything feel effortless and always went above and beyond. I can highly recommend the restaurant also for dinner - everything was exceptional! One last point to note, my friend left her AirPods on the beach bed and not only did the team manage to find them, but they had the hotels driver drop them off to us without any hesitation. Thank you Macakizi and team for a wonderful stay!

Disappointing Stay, Not Worth the Luxury Label

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed August 31, 2024

Our 100 something group of friends stayed at Macakizi for a wedding, and while we had high expectations given the hotel's luxury status, our experience was unfortunately far from satisfactory. Despite the hotel's elegant interior and view, the actual experience did not live up to the hype. **Room:** We booked a garden view suit expecting a lavish space with all the promised amenities. However, the room was smaller than anticipate, with just curtains separating the bath from bed, not enough console space to put our toiletries. Housekeeping literally didn’t exist - we had to ask multiple times every day that there is no toilet paper, or no one has brought us towels or water. **Service:** Service is where we felt the most disappointment. With such a large group, we expected a well-coordinated effort from the hotel staff, but their attentiveness was lacking. We had to call the front desk multiple times to get assistance with basic stuff, like AC not working, TV doesn’t have WIFI, and the response time was slow. For a hotel of this caliber, we expected proactive and seamless service, which simply wasn’t the case. **Dining:** The hotel’s dining options were another letdown. Either an elegant chef curated meal or buffet, very few a la carte items to order from we a premium prices. The menu was limited, and the quality did not justify the cost. Breakfast, too, was average at best, with a slow service. **Amenities:** The pool looked nice but was small and more part of decoration than a pool. The beach looks great but rocky, and you can only jump from the docks, meaning no sandy beach to walk along, so not ideal for kids or anyone who doesn’t know how to swim. For a luxury hotel, the amenities felt rather ordinary. **Stairs and Safety:** it seems the designers copied a concept from another hotel without any consideration for safety and practicality. There are 1,000 of steps between so called reception and rooms, no elevators. We saw kids falling down the stairs, we saw old women walking into glass walls. Not recommended for anyone who has kids or can’t walk down the straits. **Billing Issues:** Perhaps the most shocking and concerning aspect of our stay was discovering that our signatures were forged on bills for items we never ordered. Even worse, the same item had been billed multiple times to different rooms, including ours, leading to significant discrepancies in our final bill. There is one thing that a burger and salad is overpriced at 3,100 TL, but when a 130,000 TL bill becomes 110,000 TL after hours of waiting, and the front desk not being to able to show a video that I ordered these or a receipt that has my signature on it, this is fraud to the next level. This is completely unacceptable for any establishment, let alone one that brands itself as a luxury hotel. When we raised this issue with management, it was handled poorly, adding to our frustration and disappointment. **Overall:** While Macakizi has the potential to offer a luxurious experience, it didn’t meet our expectations. Despite being a large group celebrating a special occasion, the lackluster service, underwhelming dining, minor room issues, and, most alarmingly, the billing discrepancies and forged signatures left us feeling that this hotel is more style over substance, and we are not in a safe place. Sadly, it’s not worth the premium price, and we left feeling disappointed rather than pampered. We may come back to Bodrum again, but Macakizi never.

So disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed August 10, 2024

Absolutely disgraceful! Never ever stay here. We have been coming to this hotel on and off for the past 10 years and never ever have we had so many issues as this time. It seems management has changed or something has surely gone horrendously wrong. Our stay had one common theme, whether with reception staff, bar men, sun bed team. You had to fight and argue with every single person just to even get a table or space, even if you have reserved. They make simple mistakes like not turning up at the allocated time for a transfer they organised, not getting extra beds ready and they never once even apologise. Making it sounds like we are a nuisance for asking simple things. They have no awareness of regular hotel guests and genuinely it doesn't seem like the hotel could care less. All the staff are rude, arrogant and completely obnoxious and I cannot believe this is how they treat people who spend thousands to stay in the hotel and spend money there on a daily basis. It's disappointing to say this but if you care about being treated well I would recommend booking one of the new hotels opening in Bodrum on a regular basis. Do not go to Macakizi.
