This property is at a location near the international airport. Great property! We enjoyed the ambience and the spacious room . There were plenty of choices for food! The Chinese restaurant was excellent. Warm and friendly staff. Great value for money.

Checkin At Your Own Risk - Worst Front Office and Management Ever!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This one is going tot take some time so read at your own risk. At the onset let me just make it clear that most staff at hotel's restaurants is amazing, specially Lakshay, Chef Rajan and Prathamesh. However, after visiting and staying at the hotel once, twice and sometimes thrice every month for more than a year, the hotel's front office and in my most recent experience the senior management is also unprofessional, unfriendly, lacks warmth and unfit for hospitality sector. I am a World of Hyatt member with the Globalist tier with an association with Hyatt that is more than a decade now and I can assure that none of the hyatt properties give you such a terrible experience as grand hyatt mumbai does. I will try to write in brief although its tough. 1. Denial of suite upgrade even when we were entitled and suite was available - I used a guest of honour award for booking a room alongside mine for my friend, his wife and their child who's under one year of age and a caretaker. The award entitles them to the globalist benefits such as suite upgrade, quick checkin etc. but the front office team denied them the suite despite of suites being available and took 35-40 minutes for the checkin. They lied through their teeth and said suites are sold out. Let alone a suite, they did not even upgrade their room to a higher category (which were available in plenty) with more space that can accommodate the kid's cot and an extra bed of the caretaker. Later on they gave us a suite for an extra charge, it was a miracle to see a suite becoming available all of a sudden when we offered to pay extra. After escalating the matter, the Hotel Manager Mr. Sumit Datta tells me that because the room is booked under friends & family rate, it is not eligible for a suite upgrade which was again a lie and it made me think either this person is incompetent or is complacent. I told him its not true and asked him to share the part of terms and condition which states such a thing but he never got back with it (until now). I have stayed with multiple Hyatt properties across different countries in the last decade and these rates are not ineligible rates. Hence, I immediately raised a complain with the Hyatt Concierge and the concierge agent told me that the Hotel Manager is wrong so I took a screenshot of the chat and shared with Mr. Dutta but he still insisted on checking and getting back to clarify on it. I will now let the brave readers (to have come this far reading it) of the review decide if their HM is incompetent or complacent. If someone from Grand Hyatt is reading this, please tell Mr. Datta that I am still waiting for him to share the T&Cs that state otherwise. Anyhow, after a torture for more than 2 hours and putting my friend's wife and her baby through hell, they finally gave the suite and after the complain to the concierge they did not dare to charge us extra. 2. Dirty and unhygienic room - The suite that was offered had buds of cigarettes and the room and the verandah was unclean. My guests had to make a call and ask them to clean it. I don't know if it was deliberate or gross negligence 3. Unprofessional and Condescending behaviour of Miss Jasleen - The audacity and arrogance of this particular person at the reception is worth the mention. While the suite upgrade was not given and I was discussing the issue with other hotel staff over calls to find a solution, Miss Jasleen called the room and said to my guests "This is what you booked so this is what you got to live with". Clearly she does not understand how to profile the guest, specially when the system would show a long list of my past booking every month. This is after the Guest of Honour award was clearly reflecting on the booking and it was the job of Miss Jasleen to know that. I have seen other guests arguing with Jasleen at reception in my past visits and I am sure this arrogance and unprofessionalism is her expertise but needs to be put in check by the management. At the time of checkout I saw her at the reception and wanted to share my feedback so I asked the person at counter to call her towards our counter but she refused to come and went inside the back office. Her duty manager however showed up to take the feedback and guard her. Perhaps it is my fault to expect competence and basics from her as an employee. If you ever stay at Grand Hyatt Mumbai, please avoid her to safeguard your mental peace or to escape an unpleasant experience. 4. Dedicated check-in counter for World of Hyatt members is always in-operational - All hyatt hotels have a dedicated checkin counter for WOH members and so does Grand Hyatt Mumbai but the only difference is that other hotels have a person taking care of that counter to provide a quicker checkin for WOH members and Grand Hyatt Mumbai does not. In fact even if someone is at the counter they would just ask you to go back to the crowded regular checkin counter where their incredibly talented colleagues would take forever to get you checked in. I have mentioned this multiple times to them in the last one year but they would not want to listen to the feedback or suggestion. This is supposed to be their SOP and does not even need to be suggested in the first place. 5. Petty Revenge Of Mr. Dutta or whoever's ego got bruised - So someone from the hotel went on to force the person who had registered me in his friends & family list to remove me from that list. I was warned by another employee at the hotel that they would stoop down to this level if I go ahead and try to give them a feedback about all the issues we faced during this stay. I had to do it anyhow but if this is the kind of culture that prevails in this particular property of the Hyatt group, its a serious concern. Juniper Hotels and Hyatt group needs to look into the wrongdoings of such employees that carry the potential to make a very loyal customer like me to start thinking about giving by business to some other group of hotels that treat its guests the way they deserve to be. There are many more issues that are present with its infrastructure, service and how this hotel deals with its guests but I have ignored them in the past due to the comfort that Hyatt provides as a group of hotels. Sometimes when you stay with the same hotel group for more than a decade, you start liking their ethos, hospitality and courteous staff but none of it is true for Grand Hyatt Mumbai. I guess they don't care here much because it is a MICE hotel and they get a lot of events throughout the year, the occupancy stays high because of events and this high revenue generation can make you arrogant, careless, churlish, disobliging and condescending. I will have this reported to your owner Mr. Saraf and senior management in Juniper.
