DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. HORRIBLE experience. I usually shy away from providing negative reviews but the experience at Taj Lands End was so poor that I feel compelled to share this. We had booked a 3 night stay, and pre paid, several months in advance. We were coming in on an international arrival that landed in Mumbai at 12:30AM. I made the reservation for an extra day (technically day before the flight landed) so we wouldn’t have to bother with an early check in. I CALLED the hotel and spoke to the front desk before my flight took off, and informed them that check in would be around 1:30AM and that they should hold the room. Despite all of this, when I arrived, it was an absolute mess: 1. On check in at 1:30AM, we were told to wait in the lobby indefinitely because the room had a maintenance issue. Note that this is 11 hours after check in, and that rooms in the same category were available on the Taj website. 2. On making a complain, the night manager provided a second room. Unfortunately, things got worse here: the “new” room that was given to us was not meant for us. Some celebrations had taken place in the room previously: there were deflated balloons and an old cake in the room. Worst of all, THIS ROOM WAS NOT CLEAN. There were stains on the bedsheets, and cigarette ash on the carpet (note that this is a non smoking room). I reported this to the bell captain who had my bags, and he told me to “adjust because this happens now and then.” I got very irritated by this. I am not in the habit of paying $350 per night for a room with stains on the bedsheets. At 2:30AM, I went downstairs to complain again. At this point under immense pressure, the staff gave us yet another room. This upgraded room was finally fit for purpose. Through the rest of the stay, the service was very poor. Examples: 1. the DND / privacy sign was not respected. Our room was called and the door knocked on despite the signs being on. 2. The morning after our check in debacle, I had made a request for a late breakfast table at 10:45AM (the buffet closes at 11AM). This was not communicated to the restaurant - we had to pick stuff from the buffet while the staff hovered behind us, in a hurry to remove the food. 3. I was repeatedly asked to pay for room service with my card instead of charging it to the room. 4. The new “upgraded” room came with a butler, but I was not informed of this until the last night of my stay. As I mentioned, I am not in the habit of leaving negative reviews for no reason. I understand running hotels is difficult. But for starting charges of Rs 25,000 per night (approx USD 300), there are FAR better options all over Mumbai. I will be staying at The Oberoi or The 4 Seasons next time.

Convenient ride from the airport takes you to a hotel of exceptional calm (though the sound level associated with weddings and others celebrations can get very loud and quite annoying). Well appointed rooms are a prelude to exceptional service. Excellent restaurants are enhanced by attentive yet unobtrusive staff. The fitness center is complete, the pool shallow but deep enough for decent laps. Now that the Sea Link road enables speedy transit to South Bombay, the last impediment to a fantastic day appears to have been overcome. Eventually, the price seems well worth it.
