Lack of 5 star treatment.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

It was raining outside and the restaurant would not serve us. Turned us away and left us with no option. Been in a lot of 5 star hotels that would have made it work. They didnt seem to care or help. Would not recommend

Excellent Service

I stayed at the Sofitel for five nights earlier this year and was so pleased with the service. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. About two days into my stay, I had a very urgent need come up where I needed assistance and a recommendation for a place to go and receive some support while traveling. I was quite upset and Umut, the duty manager, jumped right into action to support me. He helped me to get where I was going and went above and beyond to also help me to get home from the appointment. I was so grateful to be staying in a hotel that valued service to such a high degree when I needed it most. Additionally, the hotel is lovely and clean with very nice amenities. I enjoyed the breakfast, the bath products, and the accessible location. A great place to relax, be taken care of, and enjoy the Oktoberfest!

Close to Oktoberfest, Far from Satisfied

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Great location, but an unacceptable check-in experience for a $900/night hotel. We stayed three nights during Oktoberfest. The one clear positive is the location—it’s just a 5–10 minute walk to Oktoberfest. Unfortunately, nearly everything about check-in was problematic. When we returned to check in, it took at least 15 minutes, and the staff couldn’t locate our luggage. I ultimately had to go behind the front desk and find our bags myself. The most concerning issue came after we had checked into our room, unpacked, and settled in. The manager then called and told us we had to move rooms, without explanation. While packing, I discovered another guest’s wallet and battery pack sitting on the desk. We had been given a room that was already occupied by another guest. This is not simply an inconvenience—it is a serious security and privacy failure. The hotel apologized with macarons and champagne, but we later discovered that we had also been charged for expenses from the incorrectly assigned room. We have not yet been able to contest the charge because it appears that no one mans the Sofitel phones. Oktoberfest is undoubtedly a busy time, but that should make proper systems and preparation of room assignments, luggage handling, and billing even more important. At $900 a night, we expected a much higher standard of service, organization, and security. The location is excellent, but the experience was extremely disappointing.

Very nice hotel and excellent location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Michael the concierge. Walking distance to the Old Town, which is much fun!

Not worth it !

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

It probably used to be a lovely hotel 5 years back . Sadly , that is not the case anymore and Accor seriously needs to look at sorting this out . I am not a Accor regular and probably just my third time at Accor and second at a Sophitel . However still - This is one of the worst I have had over a number of years . Room and the hotel were clearly showing their age , staff was strictly transactional and probably needs a crash course in hospitality. It appeared as if maintenance staff was also doubling up as house keeping. The hotel just did not instill any confidence in us and we absolutely steered clear of dining at the hotel. Amongst the positives , building is lovely and this is one of those old post office hotels . I am not a fan of the busy location , but if someone wants that and wants a hotel next to the station and pretty much city centre , then the hotel is perfectly located . Struggling to think of anymore positives to be honest Look at what Fullerton has done with a post office building at Singapore or Sydney and what Accor has done here . It is absolutely chalk and cheese and that says it all !
