Reviews for Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa

First Class Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

As a family we rate this hotel 5*. This will have been our fifth stay in the last 5 years. Every member of staff is polite and always helpful with any queries you may have. My sons and eldest grandson played 5 rounds of golf during our stay. The golf courses are kept looked after by the grounds people, who are out from first thing in the morning and during the heat of the day, everyday. We had booked our rooms well in advance and had requested three rooms on the 3rd floor overlooking the adult pool. Unfortunately due to a premier league football team staying at the hotel for pre season training we were not able to have these rooms but the hotel reception staff offered us several other room options, allowing us time to check out the rooms offered before we made a decision on which were better for us. We chose our rooms and were very happy with their location. We chose the club class option which allowed us to have snacks and drinks in the club lounge. The staff there were very friendly and helpful. There was always a choice of snacks and drinks for both adults and children. Staff at breakfast were attentive at all times ensuring we had everything we needed. We have eaten in the Italian, Asian, Steak House and Sushi restaurants and the food has always been very good. If you haven’t stayed, try this hotel as you won’t be disappointed. We are already looking at dates for our return. Thank you to every member of staff 😊

Beautiful five-star facilities, but the service didn’t consistently match...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

There is a lot to like about Grand Hyatt La Manga - the hotel itself absolutely feels five-star: our room was lovely, the spa and gym facilities are excellent, and the overall setting and standard of the property are very good. Unfortunately, our experience of the service was much less consistent and, at times, really disappointing. Our stay started with a rather clumsy check-in. We were initially given the wrong room and then had to wait several hours before the correct room was ready. These things happen, but the way it was handled didn’t feel particularly polished for a hotel of this level. The most disappointing experience, however, happened at breakfast. I had family members nearby whose children were attending golf at the hotel, so I specifically asked in advance whether they could join me for breakfast, checked the price and confirmed how it would work. They had also joined me previously and the charge had simply been added to my room bill. After breakfast on another occasion, while I was waiting in the lobby, a member of the waiting staff came after me and very aggressively accused me of leaving without paying for my guests. I calmly explained that I had checked the arrangement beforehand, informed the staff when I arrived that day, and understood that the breakfasts would be charged to my room, as they had been previously. Unfortunately, he remained extremely irate and confrontational, to the point that it felt more like being involved in a public argument than a conversation with a member of staff at a five-star hotel. He eventually stormed off. It was particularly unpleasant - being approached and spoken to in that manner felt both intimidating and embarrassing. A simple, discreet question about whether the breakfasts had been charged to my room would have resolved the situation immediately. That incident rather summed up the disconnect we experienced during our stay: the property and facilities feel five-star, but the service did not always operate at a five-star level. At a hotel in this category, it isn’t about expecting everything to be perfect; it is about expecting issues to be handled calmly, professionally and graciously. We genuinely enjoyed many aspects of Grand Hyatt La Manga and there is a great deal the hotel gets right. With more consistency, training and attention to the way guests are spoken to when something goes wrong, it could be an exceptional resort. Unfortunately, the service experience means I couldn’t rate our stay as highly as the facilities themselves deserve.

Nice place. Had a great stay

Hotel facilities, food, golf, rooms… all very good. My one complaint is the service on reception. You want fast snappy service, but it was always ‘please take a seat’ and took bloody ages! Not 5* service. Just really frustrating and time consuming unfortunately

A great 5 star hotel, particularly for golfers and their families.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed here for 3 nights. Having said that we are not golfers so it might be perfect for a longer golfing holiday but for us 3 nights was enough. Anyway it’s a great hotel, definitely 5 star. But like most golf hotels it is quite isolated. Beautiful scenery and grounds with hundreds of palms and trees but strangely lacking in flowers. This hotel, the Hyatt La Manga Club Golf and Spa is not on La Manga, La Manga is a long strip of land that runs along the Mar Menor and is a concrete jungle of low quality badly designed 60’s style properties and definitely not worth a visit. This hotel is not near La manga it’s well before it (about 3 miles off) and is as close to Cartagena (which is a beautiful city and well worth a visit). Having said that it’s a brilliant manicured resort with this luxury hotel in its centre. Our room was lovely, with some of the best range of contemporary furniture I’ve seen in a hotel room and with a great big flat screen TV. (Perfect for the World Cup). Surprisingly for a golf hotel there were lots of families with children. There is an adult infinity pool, which looks great but there aren’t many beds and access to it is via a lot of steps. But it’s still a lovely place to chill. The family pool is large but when they say family they mean it, it was full of kids and two great big inflatable flamingoes! This pool has a rope barrier strung across it from side to side, presumably to stop the little ones swimming into the deep end. But where it is positioned across the shallow steps makes getting in and out of the pool difficult for anyone old or frail. It needs removing completely leaving it up to parents to look after their young children when they swim. It’s actually quite deep for a family pool, which is unusual nowadays but there are plenty of sunbeds and there’s also a restaurant by the pool and a bar which is great. We actually spent most of our days at the adult infinity pool, it overlooks the 18th green so you can bathe and watch all the golfers show how hard the game is. We ate at the Italian on the first night the food and service was excellent. We ate at the Asian restaurant the 2nd night the Teriyaki beef was superb and again the service was great, although the restaurant lacked atmosphere. Our last night was the steak restaurant (which is actually the breakfast restaurant) food was ok, but the service was very poor. Overall the staff are good, certainly the front desk, around the pools, and the hotel bar, The Final Green, but the restaurant staff generally seem a little complacent and not quite reflective of the hotel. In fact the staff at the family pool daytime restaurant were a bit surly. After all said and done, we enjoyed our stay, it’s a lovely 5 star experience but we were glad we only booked 3 nights. It’s probably due to the fact it’s so isolated and like most golf hotels is a little short of atmosphere of an evening. (Maybe all the golfers are knackered and in bed, I can’t believe so many played 18 holes in 35 degree heat). The hotel is lovely, the grounds are spectacular, overlooking the golf course, but it’s a massive resort and it feels a little isolated.
