Reviews for Amanzoe

Beautiful resort, But there is a big BUT..

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We just came home from our 3 day trip to Amanzoe, I’m going to give my most honest and detailed review about our stay, And explanation why I gave the rating I did. Before booking Amanzoe I wished I have read a detailed review so probably I would have chosen a different resort, As of course it is a LOT of money - Which we work very hard for- And for a lot of money it just needs to be absolutely perfect, And unfortunately we didn’t had that experience with Amanzoe. Amanzoe is beautiful in any way, The grounds are just breathtaking, Yes it really is. Only be prepared for the 2,5 hour ride ( If you can, Then please go for the helicopter) as the ride is just a nightmare and definitely not recommended with children, We both don’t get sick easily in the car but this was just too much ( ofcourse Amanzoe can’t do much about this) but I just want to make you aware that you shouldn’t take this lightly. When we arrived we got welcomed kindly, Unfortunately the general manager haven’t shown his face during the entire stay, We did find that a pity also after the things we experienced, It gave us a feeling it just left them cold that our experience wasn’t the best, Although the staff is very friendly and welcoming in general. When we were shown the room we were like “wow” the rooms are stunning, And they have everything you need, Also the housekeeping does a very good job. Unfortunately after our check in things started to go downhill from there, They give you a necklace you have to put on your front door which means “do not disturb” unfortunately during our stay we got disturb 3 times by people knocking on our door while the do not disturb sign was on, This was very frustrating to be honest, I even messaged them about it and got as a reply that “ maybe somebody wanted to refresh the minibar” well then they shouldn’t, as clearly the do not disturb sign was on, Why give the necklace then? Also sorry to say but: The food is awful. For us this is just one of the most important things when choosing a good hotel, It can just make or break your experience. Before we came to the hotel I asked them to send the menu’s of the restaurants, Because I always like to see what’s on the menu’s as we are really foodies. On the menu of the main restaurant it was written that all main courses come with a side dish and a sauce, Well this got us in a very awkward situation as on the first night we dined in the main restaurant and my fiance ordered the chicken as the main course ( look at picture for reference) the waitress told him he needed to pay additional for the sauce and side and I showed her the menu’s they send me before, She told me it was an old menu and now you needed to pay extra, We found it ridiculous. When the chicken came it was just a joke how it was presented, It tasted like a piece of rubber and it was just smashed on the plate with a piece of lime next to it, Sorry Amanzoe but we are in one of the most exclusive resorts in the world, What about presentation? And oh yeah taste?. All the other dishes we had were also tasteless and overpriced, My fiance ordered a sauce with his chicken as it just had no taste ( a chicken of €45) and he got some cold bernaisse sauce. Also when we ordered the dips ( tzaziki and another one) I asked the waitress if it came with bread, And she said no.. No? Do you want me to eat dips with my hand? She said she could add some pita bread additional and she came with two half slices, While the dips were very big, So again I had to ask for extra bread. Just give people enough, We are also paying premium aren’t we? We don’t want to ask for everything again. Unfortunately only two restaurants were open in the evening, And you are really in the middle of nowhere, So there aren’t much options elsewhere, luckily we were only there for 3 days because otherwise I would have gone crazy, We only liked the Japanese - But I don’t want to eat Japanese every night. The breakfast is also just a nightmare, Everything goes wrong and no dish has taste, We tried several things are were just so extremely disappointed, We also had lunch on the beach and unfortunately again- food not good. I told them about the food just not being up to standards and they replied they just got a new chef after 6 years, Well maybe it’s time to go for another one as this is also definitely not going to work? In the rooms they give you some snacks which are sealed in a jar, When opening it I found out it was completely filled with ants, It was just awful, How could they have missed this when placing it in the rooms? When checking out we found out that they added some extra charges to the bill, A massage from the spa - we didn’t even visited the spa. When I told them we didn’t had this treatment they even asked us if we were sure? They gave us the feeling if we were some criminals while we truly didn’t had this treatment, Just look at the camrera’s right? Instead of giving your customers an awkward feeling. They removed it from the bill ( as ofcourse we didn’t had it) but unfortunately we left with a feeling we weren’t welcome anymore, And for the amount of money we spent we hoped we would have had a different experience. So long story short: Yes it’s an absolutely beautiful property, And people are very friendly. Would I recommend it to anyone? No. Why not? Because you pay premium and there are so many other beautiful resorts ( We also stayed in Astir palace before and loved it) which do live up to their standards, The food is just a big no, And is good food not one of the most important things? Also we felt we were just a number in the end, And this is just not what you want to feel after visiting a Aman.

Glorious location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

Glorious location to decompress if you want to give yourself space to think and rest. This exclusive haven of unsurpassed beauty lays amongst stunning centuries old olive groves. It is a modern Acropolis like site in modern era. We had an unforgettable stay here in early fall. Those boasting panoramic views were unbelievable and we could not stop taking photos. Our Villa had high ceilings with unobstructed views. Marble, stone and oak accents were so welcoming in combined with the flow and openness between the exterior and interior spaces. The host Helene was very kind and there for us, throughout our stay. Spa: one visit was not enough, next time we will try more treatments. A hidden gem? The Amanzoe boutique with exclusive Aman products. We enjoyably spent over 20K, after a Greek god like, the manager, introduced them to us. The service ethos might be a culture here combined with the zen vibe. We will return soon but in the meantime everyone should experience this.

Unique globally resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

This is a worldwide unique resort, with spectacular architecture, jaw-dropping views and villas. The beach club, offers a raw private Greek sea experience, and great food! The food at the main resort was not my fav. This resort has an uber luxurious boutique, similar to Hermes or Loro Piana, with a super model running it, did not expect that! Area delight: within a 10min driving distance you can find many amazing local taverns with delicious meat or fish and Spetse island.

Beautiful resort but left us a bit cold

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

Many will know that the luxury-hotel-loving world divides into two groups: Amanjunkies who love every aspect of these hotels and the rest of us. As a sybaritic traveler who always turns left on planes and generally only stays in hotel suites, I have tried to love them and there are aspects of these hotels which are exceptional but I am going to weigh in here about why Amanzoe left us a bit cold. So starting with strengths: This resort is stunningly beautiful. I took many photos and especially enjoyed views from the outdoor breakfast table. There are a handful of public rooms in free-standing buildings around the ornamental pond including the cathedral-like library. That is beautifully designed and the interior is very high quality but would you want to read a book in there? Probably not (more of this later). The Villas: There are no bad rooms. All accommodation is villa-style and, other than the larger properties on site, it is only location that influences the price. These are well-appointed provided you like that rather Spartan style (of course that is very appropriate when on the Peloponnese!). I did note that the bathroom blind was crooked and the daily snacks were not usually topped up so there were a few misses on detail but the villa was spacious and comfortable, even though the desk was very tight to do any work. I liked that the bathroom had two showers and toilets. The open wardrobes separated these so the dressing areas was very close to the bath. We had poor weather for part of our stay and the patio roof leaked so the loungers and the outdoor chairs got very wet – another miss on detail – so when the sun came out you couldn’t use them. Staff are very conscientious and sweet. I especially liked the breakfast crew and the beach staff. The Beach club. Although the “beach” is nothing of the sort – there is nowhere to walk and it has imported sand - it had WiFi, fantastic service with individual sun cream bottles supplied and your beach towels were rearranged if you vacated the lounger for lunch. So, there is a much to like BUT This place is so deathly dull, dull, and almost churchlike in its quietness everywhere (apart from the beach). Every public room you enter (like the library or the bar) you are usually the only guest and if there are others they do tend to be squirreled away in another corner. Also the food is NOT good. You are stuck in this resort – it’s not near any other villages with good restaurants - so you end up eating there every evening. Breakfast is by far the best meal of the day. There is a very poor Japanese restaurant. The place you have breakfast turns into a different restaurant in the evening and I preferred this to the Japanese, though the meals were nothing to rave about. In each of my 3 stays at Amans this has been a prevailing weakness. Maybe the fans value the silence much more than cuisine? I am more extrovert and enjoy chatting to people sometimes and like a good meal! In fact we did meet a charming couple (who have since become good friends as they live about 3 miles from us) who ticked the same way. We got chatting one rainy lunchtime as I could see the wife was like me -and looking around wanting to engage with someone other than a member of staff! The price. It is expensive and because of the aspects I don’t enjoy, for me I am not convinced of its value. Gift shop. Fancy a baseball cap with Amanzoe embroidered on it. Yours for a mere 160 Euros – you get the drift. So, in summary, if you like the Aman style and don’t care about food you will love it. For the rest of you, caveat emptor (I don’t know the Greek equivalent).

Amanzoe, Olympus on earth

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

Amanzoe is one of the most amazing experiences that can be enjoyed. We had really high expectations about this marvellous hotel before our trip there, and It can be confirmed every detail that makes Amanzoe an outstanding place worth visiting. We stayed in the beach club of the hotel, whose installation are a jewell itself, as well as the beach, perfect place to have a calm and rellaxing sunbath. After 5pm we left the Beach club and drove to the hotel, in order to have a cocktail at sunset. In that moment, hotel becomes a magical place because of a mix of its privileged location and majestic arquitecture: you feel like a mortal in the God's Olympus. ;) Finally, we ended the day having dinner at the restaurant exterior, being delighted by Greek culinary specialities during latest sunset lights. I left for the end the best Amanzoe characteristic, which is the profesionalism and kindness of all of their employees, from drivers, recepcionist, beach and restaurant waiters, sommelier.. every of them contribute to an excellent service and treat that makes the visitante feel like a special person. My special recognition to Evangelos Lapatas, F&B manager, great contributor to the Amanzoe special atmosphere and to our trip there. Thanks for your kindness support, Evangelos!
