We recently stayed at The Meritage Resort and Spa for our anniversary getaway after having a wonderful family stay at an adjacent property, Vino Bello. We loved Vino Bello so much (separate bedrooms, spacious layout, and even a jacuzzi in the room) that we decided to try Meritage out of curiosity, expecting an elevated, luxury experience. Unfortunately, our experience at Meritage was underwhelming from the moment we arrived. When we drove up to check in, security stopped us at the entrance and informed us that part of the resort had been bought out by a corporation, and we would need to check in across the street. He also told us that we would receive a room upgrade for the inconvenience. At check-in, we shared how surprising and unfortunate the situation was as we were truly hoping to experience the other side of the property, and it felt like there wasn’t much acknowledgment of that at first. We didn’t receive any mention of an upgrade or compensation until I asked, and we were then told we would receive a $50 resort credit. That credit was not applied at checkout until my husband brought it up and the front desk staff corrected it. While we understand adjustments may not always be possible, we were still surprised not to receive the upgrade we had been told about at arrival. Overall, the room felt more like a standard hotel room and didn’t quite reflect the luxury experience we were expecting for the price. The cleanliness and upkeep were also disappointing. The coffee/drink station had visible dust, and one of the bathrobes in our room had a stain on the collar. When we texted the concierge about the robe, they asked if we wanted it replaced—which felt like a no-brainer. Even the microwave we requested arrived dirty and was placed directly in front of the coffee maker blocking any access, and I ended up having to clean the microwave myself. We also called the front desk to request ice. We were told they would need to get it from the closed-off section of the resort (since there was no ice machine on our side) and deliver it to our room. The ice never arrived, and we ended up buying our own the next day. The internet connection was also unreliable throughout our stay. The Wi-Fi was spotty, and we experienced dropped connections, which was frustrating. We wanted to specifically enjoy the Adults Only pool for our anniversary—a nice break from our toddlers. However, that area was closed off due to the corporate buyout, leaving us with only the family pool full of children. We tried again later at night and were able to enjoy the jacuzzi briefly, since the pool closes at 10 PM. One staff member near the elevator was friendly, and it was refreshing to finally see some attention to detail when she noticed a dried-up dead plant that looked like it had been sitting there for days and immediately picked it up and removed it. Because we were so frustrated with the room and our resort experience, we ended up spending money away from the resort on local spa treatments, wineries, and dinner reservations just to make our anniversary trip feel special. At The Fivetown Grocery café, I was happy they could make my favorite Vanilla Lavender Chai Latte (which was delicious). However, the barista’s friendliness felt selective, and I didn’t feel the same warmth that other guests seemed to receive compared to my previous experience at the Blend Cafe on the closed side of the property. We did purchase some merchandise, which has been nice to use since returning home. Given the premium price we paid (even with a veterans discount), the experience didn't align with the cost. The Meritage felt overpriced for what was offered, and the overall service, cleanliness, and guest experience were far below expectations.

Experience was great! The service provided by Eric H. was exceptional. We traveled with a large group and he made sure we were all accommodated to our satisfaction. Also, someone forgot something at the check-in desk. But, of course, as we made our way to our rooms across the property, we see Eric sprinting across the parking lot to catch us to make sure it was returned. I appreciate when service is above and beyond and Eric did that. The rooms were great also!

We are attending a company conference at the resort. My wife booked an amazing ball treatment and said it was one of the most wonderful spa days she’s had. The grounds are beautiful activities are many restaurants are great employees are friendly and very helpful. The only one thing I can mention that wasn’t great is that the hotel bedroom door slam shut and it’s someone leaves in the middle of the night you can get startled by the door

From the moment I arrived for check-in, I experienced first-class service. The valet and bellhop were extremely accommodating and set the tone right away. The valet was especially flexible while I was unloading my vehicle for an event, which made a big difference. When it came time to check in, my room was ready early, and the bellhop kindly offered to assist with my luggage—something I truly appreciated, especially since my room was located across the street. The rooms were also very clean, up-to-date, and extremely comfortable. I did want to add that both the valet and bellhop teams were outstanding. A special thank you to the bellhop who assisted me at check-in and was also the same person who came up to help during checkout—his consistency and service really stood out. I dined at Olive and Hay a couple of times and have to give a huge shoutout to the staff—especially manager Kelly Magner. She consistently went above and beyond to make sure my team and I were well taken care of and felt at home. She was always present, attentive, and ready to help with anything we needed. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the Meritage Resort and Spa—the staff, atmosphere, and location all exceeded expectations. Highly recommend.
