The Prime Location Is the Draw Here

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

My husband decided on our hotel for a long weekend in New Orleans, and this was his stylish boutique choice. The prime Camp St location turned out to be ideal since it was a couple of blocks south of the French Quarter and a brief streetcar ride to the Garden District. We were within reasonable walking distance to our planned activities like dinners at Emeril's and Willie Mae's and the live music at the Crescent City Blues Festival at Lafayette Square. While the Beaux-Arts building was built in 1906, it didn't become a hotel until 1998 when an enterprising entrepreneur noticed that the smaller boutique hotel market common in London and Paris was underserved. The lobby has a modern sheen featuring Banksy-style art and edgy celebrity portraits. Our $270 per night standard room had a more traditional feel, somewhat dated with minor flaws like a nightstand drawer that didn't close. I was surprised that some amenities were lacking like a safe and a coffeemaker. However, the Queen bed was comfortable and the room spacious enough at 325 square feet. Our room didn't face the street, so there wasn't excessive noise. The front desk staff was polite though the service level was on the middling side. We definitely enjoyed the Loa Bar. Primarily for the location, we would consider a return stay.

Boutique at its best!

An amazing experience from start to finish! Our first annual meeting in the Big Easy was a success, thanks to the staff's outstanding hospitality. As an ex-hotelier, this is a very polished property, job well done! I would totally recommend this property, whether you're traveling on business or pleasure; this is the place to stay, CLEAN and FRIENDLY! A+ to Amanda Whittington and Sophia Clay for being exceptionally responsive to all our group's needs; both were a pleasure to work with and ensured every request was met. THANK YOU ALL!

Fabulous hotel in the perfect location

International House is a fabulous hotel in the perfect location. We walked (long walks but easy) to the French Quarter, the Garden District and the Riverwalk. Our room was quiet, beautiful and comfortable. There is good "hangout" space in the lobby, including a bar.

Disappointing Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The experience we had at International House was deplorable to say the least. We were there for a work conference and our travel team did not book one of our colleagues a room (not the fault of the International House), but when requesting to accommodate they did do so for 2 nights of the 4 we needed. We requested from Ms Leslie that if a room became available to please call to extend for the two nights . Again we are traveling together 1 vehicle, same flight everything. The next morning Chris was very friendly & knowledgeable & so made the request of him too as we left. About mid day Chris called and left a message that they indeed had a cancellation and to give the hotel a call back to book. (We missed the call because again we were at a conference). Upon calling back Leslie answered an questioned why we wanted to speak to Chris and basically said he does not know what he is talking about and proceeded to LIE and say that a room was not available. She was rude from the first and should not be forward facing in the hospitality industry if that is her demeanor to her guests. This was strike 1. We did get our colleague booked at another hotel. Everyday we received our Valet rental car back there was sodas/wrappers etc that did not belong to us in our car for $42 A DAY! again Unacceptable. Strike 2. Strike 3 came on the night before we left when we pulled to the front of the hotel in the middle of the street because none of the Valet cars were moved an waited not 20 but nearly 40 minutes before one of the guests just moved their cars themselves. Again for $42 a day we should not be sitting in the middle of the street to get out the vehicle. We had a 5 am wake up to be to the airport for our flight and this was an exhausting experience. Working for hospitality driven company I know the expectation that you have for your beautiful hotel, but your Staff (Leslie and Valet in particular) need WORK! I would not recommend International House currently.

Love the charming hotel. An impressive lobby and amazing staff. The location is perfect, close to shopping and restaurants still enough distance to get some peace and quiet at the room.
