I travel the world and stay in some of the finest hotels around; and after my recent stay at the Aman NYC, I’m blown away! The hospitality was second to none. The food was a delight and daily highlight! Beautiful suit and fantastically located on 5th Ave next to Central Park. I can’t recommend the Aman enough!

This is the most expensive hotel in New York and as such one would expect the service to be amazing sadly although the staff are all very friendly and pleasant they clearly have not received adequate training. Just to reiterate this is not a staff problem per say it’s a management problem. We arrived on Monday evening and emailed the hotel three times two days ahead of our arrival prior to our departure to arrange an airport transfer from JFK to the hotel which we were more than willing to pay for but they were unable to organise this … this is a basic service that you would expect any 5 star hotel to be able to do. Due to the non linear layout of the hotel it’s absolutely essential to ask for a tour of the communal facilities on arrival since you can’t rely on there being someone around to assist if you get lost … the lady at reception had apparently never been to the pool what didn’t help is that there are no signs for the pool. On arrival on Monday I booked a table for 6 for dinner outside for the Italian restaurant on Wednesday evening. I reconfirmed this on Tuesday and was told absolutely no problem it was all confirmed. Wednesday evening arrived and we were shown to a table for 6 inside and told that no one had conveyed our specific request for a table outside and unfortunately it wasn’t possible to now accommodate this request because outside was now full. This was very disappointing because we specifically wanted to eat outside if this wasn’t possible we should have been told on Monday or even Tuesday morning when we.would have gone to either the Colony Club or Soho House instead we were misled causing us disappointment & embarrassment when you paying circa $1000us for a simple dinner not what you would expect. At the end of the meal the staff apologised for the mistake and said we would not be charged for the meal. I am writing this review on Friday morning on the train to Boston after checking out and have gone through the bill on the train and have noted that we were charged for the meal. Here’s the thing I was disappointed and slightly annoyed about the mess up with the table booking, but at no point did I ask or indeed expect any financial compensation . Instead I just added it to my impression of the hotel beautiful communal spaces but useless but friendly staff. When the staff actively came and told us on the terrace where we had retired to after dinner that the bill for dinner was on the hotel we were surprised and indeed asked several times are you sure but obviously were grateful and indeed it did achieve the effect of cancelling out any negativity we had about our overall experience of the hotel despite not changing our views as to the hotel being work in progress as far as staff training goes. In fact I was debating about giving the hotel a 5/4 rating. However now that I have seen the bill my husband has insisted that I give a 2 rating on principle because you simply can’t offer financial compensation for poor service and then not actually follow through with it … it’s basically fraud. Honesty and truth are fundamental principles of all human transactions it would have been better for the hôtel restaurant staff to have offered no compensation especially when I did not ask for it rather than offer fake compensation. Moving on from my personal experiences her are my general observations about the hotel compared to other hotels I have stayed at. 1. The communal spaces are beautiful and indeed the outside spaces were much appreciated whilst staying in New York during August. 2. The actual food was very good. 3. The. Lap pool though difficult to locate was actually great. 4. The actual navigation of the hotel wasn’t easy but this is the problem when you are retrofitting an existing building so I am mot criticising merely making an observation. 5. The rooms themselves whilst visually attractive are basically one. Room with the. Bathroom just behind a screen so no chance of using the bathroom discretely… you can even here the tap running and the screens are translucent so cause light pollution at night. I am torn about whether I would revisit on my next trip especially at this price .

It was a total waste of money. This place is a total joke and laughingstock, but with extraordinary pricing. As we look at the reviews here, the local management doesn't give a sh*t about guest opinions... Maybe international management will take a look someday. A hotel isn't about walls, expensive furniture, or artificial scent, but "luxury is in the detail"; it's about the people, the workers. And the workers here are terrible (very young, except crazy safety team)! We arrived at night on the weekend, and an angry security guard started an interrogation.... It was NIGHT! We told him about our reservation, but he tried to send us to the residential part of this building (we do not why). Maitre d' was useless, an 18-year-old-like non-binary person, just was smiling. At the front desk, we had a problem with our reservation (correct - they had!). A nice-looking lady couldn't find something in their system and asked us to wait. It was night, again. After our flight! Then her manager—the guy with a tired face, black hair (Southern European I think)—started eyerolling... We felt like he is doing a favor to us after paying thousands dollar for night... his attitude was disgusting Again, it was nighttime; we had just arrived after a flight. So, we waited for a while... But the vibe was crazy... "Sorry for visiting this "luxury" hotel at an inconvenient time for you!" We literally apologized to the workers... But we will never stay in this place again! Consider Baccarat, Mandarin, Faena, Rosewood, Astoria (the best so far), Four Seasons... all cheaper, but the employees are professional (and turned out older, so more professional)! This place is a total joke and has nothing in common with other amans in Europe (Montenegro) or Asia (Japan). By the way, it's so noisy to stay here, there are limited food options, and every entrance to the hotel feels like an airport security check... Stay away and save money for better!

Our stay at Aman New York was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm and professional service that made us feel incredibly special. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, with a luxurious and peaceful atmosphere that feels like a true escape in the heart of New York City. The rooms were stunning, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, with every detail carefully considered. The staff was attentive, kind, and always willing to help, making sure everything was perfect throughout our stay. What impressed us the most was the combination of luxury, privacy, and exceptional service. Even though you are in the middle of Manhattan, the hotel feels calm and relaxing. Every part of our experience was special, and we truly enjoyed our time there. Thank you to the entire team at Aman New York for making our stay so memorable. We look forward to coming back again.
