Exquisitely and eclectically designed, The Fifth Avenue Hotel offers a realm of imagination to delight the senses in the elegant NoMad neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan.
A historic New York Gilded Age landmark reimagined as a luxury destination, The Fifth offers thoughtful service with the utmost comfort and care; and exceptional cuisine overseen by award-winning Chef Andrew Carmellini.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel is built on the former estate of Mrs. Charlotte Goodridge, a legendary Gilded Age hostess whose home was the epicenter of culture and discourse in 19th-century New York City. The mansion then housed a fine art gallery before being reimagined by legendary architectural firm McKim, Mead & White as the stately Second National Bank.
Today, following a 10-year restoration by Flâneur Hospitality, the original brick and limestone Renaissance-style palazzo is complemented by a shimmering 24-story modern glass tower. The two impressive edifices embody the marriage of classic, sumptuous luxury and sophisticated innovation that help to create an unsurpassed guest experience at The Fifth.

I stayed at The Fifth Avenue Hotel this week and the experience was absolutely sublime. I visit New York numerous amount of times every year and usually stay at the St Regis, Peninsula or The Baccarat but The Fifth Avenue Hotels blows these other hotels out of the water. The design of the hotel is absolutely stunning - a Gilded Age style facade and gorgeous interiors designed by Martin Brudnizki. From the moment I checked, the lovely lady at reception Chantelle was extremely helpful. I had called earlier to see if early check in was possible and they said they would try to make it possible and they made it happen. My bag was delivered within a minute of me heading up to the room and she also ensured that my clothes were pressed within the hour. I stayed in the Mansion Suite room which was beautifully decorated. The size of the room was spacious and the bathroom had a very large walk in shower. Whilst the interiors and design of the hotel are fabulous, what makes this hotel is the service. They go above and beyond to ensure any request is fulfilled. The concierge team were exceptional, and I would specifically like to call out Richard, who helped me with a number of requests I needed during the stay. Angela from guest services was also fantastic and was always just so friendly and gracious when dealing with queries. The breakfast restaurant had a great menu and I would highly recommend visiting Portrait Bar; the bar tenders are extremely friendly and they serve great cocktails.

We booked The Fifth Avenue Hotel through the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program, expecting a seamless luxury experience. Positioned as a 5-star property with 2 Michelin Keys, the bar was high. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by repeated service and administrative failures. Check-in was chaotic from the start. Despite staff being present outside, we carried our own bags while fumbling through the registration process. Our room was not ready until late in the afternoon, which we understood and accepted. However, at 4:00 PM, we were notified by text that the room was ready, but when we returned to The Fifth Avenue, the process broke down completely. We were escorted to a room that already had another guest’s luggage. Minutes later, another staff member entered our room while my wife and I were getting ready for dinner with a different guest, with no notice (no knock, no announcement); this was a complete breach of privacy and security. When I raised this with the front desk, the response was dismissive and condescending. Service throughout the stay remained inconsistent. Our luggage was misplaced despite staff insisting it was on the way to our room; we eventually had to describe it piece by piece for them to find it. The debacle at check-in delayed us over an hour, during which friends had arrived to meet us. They ended up waiting for us in The Portrait Bar downstairs. When we attempted to meet with them after getting ready, bartenders noted "standing room was not allowed," leaving us awkwardly waiting for friends, and our guests reported their cocktails as nearly undrinkable. Breakfast the next morning was tasty, but service was painfully slow. To the hotel’s credit, the night’s room charge was waived after acknowledging that their front desk assigned the wrong room and their other staff members entered our room while we were changing without announcing themselves. The guest rooms themselves are beautifully designed—comfortable, stylish, and worthy of the praise the hotel has received for its interiors. But luxury hospitality is about more than design. The complete collapse of administration, front desk operations, and guest services turned what should have been a memorable stay into the worst experience we have had at any Fine Hotels & Resorts property. Until management addresses these systemic issues, the Fifth Avenue Hotel does not deliver on its promise of world-class hospitality.

What a beautiful hotel! From check in to check out, it was a beautiful experience. Rooms and hotel was beautiful. The size of the room was a little small, but on par with NYC. Staff were very helpful and thoughtful. The butler service was a nice surprise. Location was perfect for us. Not too far from Penn station. Many things were walkable.

Check in experience ok, they did allocate a twin when we asked for king, so a few issues there Rooms are small Free snacks in minibar, best perk Control room with iPad, nice touch Bathrooms ok, shower has limited force and hotel water takes a few mins to arrive Staff ok, some 9arrogant some friendly Breakfast, not worth the value, from day two we went out for breakfast which was much better. There is a young guy with dark hair that served us, what an arrogant little xxxx Asked for late checkout, offer 2pm, asked for 4pm was told its ok, hour later the "manager" said not possible due to occupancy which wasn't the issue an hour ago.... what a liar Conclusion, over rated small rooms. Won't be returning

We just returned from a weekend girls trip to NYC and our stay at the Fifth Avenue Hotel was amazing! This is the first time I have stayed at a luxury hotel in NY, that I look forward to returning to. I've been to NY many times, staying at most of the top hotels around the city and this was by far my favorite experience. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the staff were, this is not always common at the high end hotels. Multiple staff members took time to talk with us and were genuinely kind. The location is perfect, so many good places to eat/drink within easy walking distance. We heard ZERO street noise even though our window faced 5th/28th. Our busy schedule unfortunately did not allow us time to enjoy the restaurant or the bar, but we took a peek inside them both and we want to return just to experience them! Over 20 years of traveling to luxury hotels, I've only written one other review, but this property was definitely deserving of the task!
