Exquisitely and eclectically designed, The Fifth Avenue Hotel offers a realm of imagination to delight the senses in the elegant NoMad neighborhood of Midtown Manhattan.
A historic New York Gilded Age landmark reimagined as a luxury destination, The Fifth offers thoughtful service with the utmost comfort and care; and exceptional cuisine overseen by award-winning Chef Andrew Carmellini.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel is built on the former estate of Mrs. Charlotte Goodridge, a legendary Gilded Age hostess whose home was the epicenter of culture and discourse in 19th-century New York City. The mansion then housed a fine art gallery before being reimagined by legendary architectural firm McKim, Mead & White as the stately Second National Bank.
Today, following a 10-year restoration by Flâneur Hospitality, the original brick and limestone Renaissance-style palazzo is complemented by a shimmering 24-story modern glass tower. The two impressive edifices embody the marriage of classic, sumptuous luxury and sophisticated innovation that help to create an unsurpassed guest experience at The Fifth.

From the beginning, being welcomed at the door of my room by a butler with a fresh juice and pastries set a tone of warmth and elegance. The service is exceptional: attentive and refined, without ever feeling intrusive. The rooms are divine, beautifully decorated in an exquisite maximalist style, with beds so comfortable they invite real rest. Their outstanding restaurant and bar are well worth visiting on their own, and the location is fantastic for exploring New York City. Truly memorable.

normally never leave reviews, but this stay really stood out. The Fifth Avenue Hotel ended up being the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and that’s saying a lot. I’ve stayed at The Plaza before, and this somehow felt even more luxurious. From the start, the service was noticeably different. Nothing felt scripted or forced. Every person we interacted with was genuinely friendly and attentive, and it never felt like they were just doing their job out of obligation. It felt natural. One thing that really impressed me was how detail-oriented everything was. Housekeeping went above and beyond in ways I wasn’t expecting—organizing our bathroom and bedroom items and even leaving cleaning cloths next to our sunglasses. Little things, but they made the room feel thoughtfully cared for instead of just cleaned. What really sold me on this hotel, though, was the staff. My aunt accidentally left her phone at a nearby theater, and instead of just telling us where to go or what to do, someone from the hotel actually went to the theater and brought it back. That kind of effort is rare anywhere, especially at a hotel in New York. The Portrait Bar was fantastic—great atmosphere and really good cocktails. Café Carmellini ended up being our favorite restaurant of the trip. The food was excellent, and the drinks were just as good. Overall, everything about the stay felt intentional and genuinely high-end without being stuffy. The Fifth Avenue Hotel sets a new standard for hospitality in NYC. I would absolutely stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

At first glance walking into this beautiful hotel, you are transported into a haven of glamour; an eden of opulence and tranquility. Everything from the unique art pieces to the fragrant aroma, I knew our stay here was going to be the most memorable past of our visit to New York City. Check-in: Friendly and warm front office staff. Quick check-in service with anecdotal conversation. Escorted us to our room with a brief explanation of where everything was located. Answered all the questions we had about the hotel services, the hotel art style and the features of the room. Afterwards, the Butler welcomed us and was then available promptly throughout our entire stay. The Room: Gorgeous room. Extremely well decorated and considerate. Quirky style with a hint of mother of pearl. The most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. Thoughtful amenities. Restaurant (Café Carmellini): The extraordinary menu and the aesthetic of the restaurant matches perfectly with the elegance of this hotel. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff made sure to make this day more special than it already was. Even the end of the meal with the cute chocolate “monster” bowl will be memorable. Bar (Portrait Bar): A huge oversight on our part and truly a miss opportunity for us was not going to the Portrait Bar for a drink. We made the mistake of not booking a table in advance thinking the travel season was low this time of year, but wow was this place thriving and packed. We simply weren’t able to get a seat. I suppose that’s our excuse to come visit another time. Next time, I’ll make sure reserve a spot in advance.

I never leave reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others in this particular case. My partner and I stayed in The Studio Suite at The Fifth Avenue Hotel for several nights in November. It was (no exaggeration) the worst hotel experience we have ever had. That includes budget hotels and genuinely world class luxury properties. The gap between this hotel’s reputation and the reality of our stay was shocking. We joked that the hotel must have identified exactly who the Condé Nast and Michelin inspectors were and treated them accordingly, because there is no other way to explain the praise this place receives. Someone should look into this. Seriously. Some context that is unfortunately and uncomfortably relevant. We are a younger couple in our early 30s from the Bay Area, work in tech, and dress casually -- jeans, puffer coats, hoodies, beanies, etc. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we did not resemble the hotel’s preferred clientele, who skewed older, white, gaudy, and flashy. That difference shaped nearly every interaction we had. The good: The room itself is well designed and comfortable, with eclectic decor and complimentary in room snacks. Rooms are quiet and the location is close to a lot of shopping nearby. That is where the positives end. The bad: The hotel gym was tiny and so dirty to the point of being unusable. One of the staff members even warned us about it in the elevator on our way there. I unrolled a yoga mat that was wet and visibly soiled with dirt, as if it had been stored outdoors. These are not the amenities we paid top dollar for. The toiletries were cheap and unlabeled. At comparable 5 star hotels like Four Seasons, you get established brands with ingredient information. Here, there was no way to know what we were putting on our skin. The products caused my partner some irritation as well. Service was amateur at best. One concierge, named Ben, was openly hostile, particularly when contrasted with how warmly he treated older white guests nearby. I am South Asian and do not make accusations lightly, but this interaction was unmistakable (iykyk) discriminatory, and immediately conveyed that we were not welcome. We were also repeatedly stopped by the doorman, physically blocked from entering the hotel, and asked what we were doing there, despite being guests. This happened every time we entered. We have stayed at many high end hotels and have never experienced anything like this. We raised these issues with management and were offered a 50 percent discount on our stay. That alone should speak volumes. If you are younger, a person of color, or simply do not fit the hotel’s apparent ideal guest, I would strongly reconsider staying here.
