Mandarin Oriental, New York

Great location off Columbus Circle. Excellent views of Central Park from the restaurant. We chose a room with Hudson River view, interesting to look at and you get great afternoon sun. Main observations are: 1. Service is not up to normal MO standard. This feels like a regular NYC 5 star hotel that has just been branded MO but lacks the finesse and culture of most other MO hotels i have been to. Rooms are quite standard decor and a bit tired, not much oriental styling. 2. The hotel only has one restaurant and it is small for a hotel this size. So you don’t have the normal choice you’d expect of this category of hotel. 3. Bar is a hidden gem, located behind the restaurant you’ll need to ask to be shown where it is, we went in about 11pm Friday and it was buzzing, great service, great cocktails and a dj playing. All in all a decent place to stay in NYC but be aware of the shortcomings.

I stayed in a one-bedroom suite at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel for two nights while attending the annual Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) Gala Fundraising Dinner being held in the hotel's ballroom. As a long-time VEI volunteer, I offered the use of the suite to VEI Founder Iris Blanc for a reception for VEI honorees and employees. I arranged with the Hotel's room service staff to have a buffet of charcuterie and cheese boards, beer, wine, and bottled water as well as small dessert selections. Everything was truly excellent, and the guests enjoyed themselves. The suite easily accommodated about 30 people.

My husband and I have been visiting New York every year for the past few years to celebrate our anniversary, and every year, we choose to stay at Mandarin Oriental, New York. Besides being a global MO fan (HK, Taiwan, BKK), what initially drew us to the hotel was the location - we love how accessible it is to Central Park and how easy it is to walk to the theater district, while still feeling peaceful and quiet. But over the years, our reason for returning has become something much more meaningful: the exceptional service. Year after year, we have been so well taken care of by the team. From Yarisol at check-in to Alessia, Elsa and especially John in the dining room, along with Missy at the spa, we are consistently greeted with warmth and genuine care. They recognize us, remember us, and make us feel truly welcomed every time they see us. There is something special about being acknowledged as returning guests and longtime fans of the hotel. This visit, we also had the pleasure of meeting the Guest Relations team—Paulina, Hannah, Miles, and Fabio—who were nothing but gracious. From the thoughtful room upgrade to the celebratory cake for us in our room, they made our anniversary feel even more special. We also really appreciated Ansul and Suzanne introducing themselves to us at breakfast. Those moments may seem small, but they mean a lot. Being recognized and welcomed by different members of the MO team throughout our stay makes the experience feel so personal and, honestly, makes us feel at home. It is also the little touches that stand out. Something as simple as having a screen wipe thoughtfully placed next to my laptop may seem small, but those details do not go unnoticed. They reflect the level of attentiveness and care that seems to be woven into the experience at Mandarin Oriental. We truly appreciate the consistency of the service throughout the years and the genuine warmth of the entire team. At this point, Mandarin Oriental is much more than a convenient place for our annual New York trip, it has become part of our anniversary tradition. We come back year after year because we know we will be well cared for, but more importantly, because the people here make us feel like we are coming home.
