For the action-seekers, attention-getters and rabble-rousers, The Roxy Hotel New York and its surrounding neighborhood have long been a hub of creativity. Consider that steps away, in 1978, the Mudd Club was the nexus of the city’s underground music and art scene with a gallery curated by Keith Haring. The Talking Heads were performing at Tribeca’s Ocean Club. Then came the era of The Odeon, Keith McNally’s still-open dining destination, catering to the movie and financial people colonizing Soho and Tribeca’s lofts. The Tribeca Grand was the first major hotel in an area home to boldface celebrities and a dynamic mix of restaurants, shops, financial institutions and thriving independent film companies. Envisioned by Soho Grand owners Leonard and Emanuel Stern to be a sister property, Tribeca Grand long thrived.
In 2015, it was time for a second act. The name “The Roxy Hotel New York” was born, a name with its own scintillating New York history. Evoking the spectacular 1920s movie theater and the legendary ‘90s dance club, The Roxy is an electric destination for music, film, and art. The guest rooms were fully renovated to give a wink to the past, yet are modern and uniquely “Roxy”. And with venues like Paul’s Cocktail Lounge, Roxy Bar, The Django jazz club, Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee, and Roxy Cinema New York, the hotel continues to be the pioneer it was born to be.

Always love the Roxy. We rolled in with our puppy and two kids and Derek and Tedene were there to help with everything. Made it so easy for a trip that could have been very hectic.

We had a wonderful stay! The hotel is perfectly located. The staff is excellent. Special mention for Derek who went out of his way to help me and my two year old while we situated the car. Thanks again Derek

I feel completely confused about all of the raving reviews of this hotel. It was just OK at best and cost almost $500 for one single night stay. On check in, the very arrogant receptionist with blonde hair and a beard literally laughed at my partner for inquiring about the free valet parking summer special as advertised on their website and wouldn’t even help her get the valet at all. Not sure if he didn’t realize we are paying guests or…? For that kind of snotty attitude, I would expect the hotel to be spotless— or at least one equipped with a single housekeeper? Didn’t seem to be one in sight. Enjoy the disgusting photos I’ve attached. The rooms are dark, which was expected, but the windows are absolutely filthy and you can barely see out of them from grime. Only one functional elevator for the whole hotel; other one is broken, so expect a headache every time you want to get back upstairs to your room because there will be a line. The music is indeed VERY loud but fortunately we were lucky enough to be housed off the main atrium. Would have been miserable if we had been on a lower floor or facing the atrium (which appears to be 80% of the rooms). The rooms are absolutely filthy, like think dust and grime balls coating the legs of the furniture, previous guests’ hairballs on the floor, dirty shower curtain, etc. There is a “mini bar” equipped with things like $20 vibrators and $35 Andy Warhol playing cards. Have at it if that’s your vibe, but don’t expect to store any of your own refrigerated goods because the dirty Smeg mini-fridge (so posh) is completely crammed full of wildly overpriced liquor. The cinema downstairs was cute but seating was very uncomfortable; nobody even checked for our tickets! We just walked in and had to politely ask other people who had clearly walked in without paying to move from our seats that we had actually paid for. Furthermore, all of the railing is bent outwards leaving a very dangerous opening between the railing and a plummet 8 stories high. I would never consider bringing my children here- my 2 year old could have literally fallen through the openings! Don’t be fooled by all of the glowing reviews. This glorified motel is just a tourist trap. The staff seem very satisfied with themselves and won’t bother to show you any kindness or hospitality. Come for the jazz band if you like that sort of thing, but don’t stay in the hotel. There are so many other choices in Manhattan at this price point that won’t have you sleeping next to a disgusting nightstand with mystery stains.

Hotel was great! Zillah at the front desk was super helpful and gave us all the info we needed upon arrival. She called to make sure our room was ok a few minutes after we arrived. The glass of champagne from the front desk upon arrival and the water bottles as we needed them were helpful also! The hotel definitely had a cool vibe. Very retro and dark. We didn’t go the movie theater downstairs but it does show movies daily (maybe more independent films??). The hotel lounge was nice with plenty of couches, pool table, smaller tables. There was jazz in the lounge that ended at 10 so if you go to bed early expect there might be music outside your room. The room was clean and comfortable. Location was great. Walked to soho, Chinatown, little Italy. Walked to lower east side but that was a 30 minute walk. Would definitely stay again if visiting nyc.

We have had an outstanding time at the Roxy. The room is spacious, luxurious, and polished. This location is ideal for anyone wanting to feel central while exploring the city! I want to mention the amazing staff who have helped us, Zillah and Kye - thank you! your positivity, warmth, and encouragement have been so welcoming. This is a professional spot with incredible music and entertainment. 10/10 to the Roxy!
