Sofitel is our home away from home

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

As two long term Manhattanites, who unfortunately no longer live in NYC, we miss Manhattan very deeply and come back often. The Sofitel New York has become our home away from home when we’re in NY and is the closest we can imagine to a NYC home without living there permanently. We have stayed there many times, including when we eloped in NY last year. We just came back for our wedding party and once again, we had an unforgettable experience at the Sofitel. As always, Shevanie went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible and special stay. We are so appreciative of him and the rest of Sofitel team. We can’t wait until our next stay there!

Stayed at the Sofitel New York for Mother’s Day weekend! From the moment we have arrived until our departure everything was perfect! On arrival we were greeted by the front door person John who was very nice Our check in was done by Natalia and Flor they were both very lovely. They told us about the Mother’s Day brunch at Social 45. The room was beautiful with a nice view of the city! Our housekeeper Belkis was very nice. On Sunday we went to brunch and Benny was very kind and helpful. He is the best ! Everyone is very friendly ! We had an amazing time snd we will be back ! Thank you Sofitel New York for a wonderful weekend getaway !

Good Location

Hello all, just wanted to share my experience at Sofitel New York 44th St. We stayed for 2 nights after Easter (April 17–19) and paid around $930 USD via accor for a Superior Room for 2 guests. As an Accor GOLD member, I received: - Room was on level 3 (no view at all) - No room upgrade - No welcome gift or even a welcome note (my friend, who isn’t an Accor member, actually got both) - Complimentary welcome drinks after claiming them - Early check-in at around 10 AM (although I’m unsure if I was charged extra, as I never received a receipt) What I liked about the hotel: - Very well-located — close to everything (Times Square, subway stations, shops, etc.) - The bellmen were really helpful and friendly - They use Diptyque amenities - The slippers were surprisingly high quality — probably some of the best hotel slippers I’ve tried - They provided complimentary reusable bottles, and the water refill station was conveniently located just outside our room - The room was clean, and the minibar had some options but obv expensive Minor cons: - They were apparently giving guests a $25 daily food voucher (excluding breakfast), but I was never informed about it during check in. I only found out through my friend, who was informed during check-in that all guests were getting it. - There was no coffee machine/tea in the room, which was disappointing since most Sofitel hotels I’ve stayed at usually have one. • We tried their lunch menu (not a lot of options and the cheapest one is around $35 from what I can remember) I feel that this hotel is pretty basic/standard? Maybe I just expected more as it is located in New York? Overall, I think the price is mainly justified by the location. What do you guys think — was it worth the price?

Sofitel NY - You should consider it when traveling to NYC

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My wife and I just finished a 3 night visit at this recently renovated property. As a frequent traveler, I am quite discerning and it is rare that everything goes as smoothly as it did during this quick getaway. Our suite was gorgeous. It was quite spacious, extremely clean and a very welcoming space. Service was outstanding. Staff was wonderful upon our arrival, seamlessly taking care of our vehicle and quickly transferring our luggage to the suite. Room service - breakfast - was delicious. We will certainly return when we come back to NY. Btw, Marioara Sfera was a wonderful ambassador for the property. She greeted us when we arrived and kindly checked in on us throughout our visit. You must say hello to her when you visit and I highly recommend this hotel to future travelers. David J

Valuable Package Lost, Assurances Broken, and Zero Follow-up: Avoid Sofitel New York.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My experience was ruined by the appalling handling of a valuable package I had delivered to Sofitel New York. Before checking out, I was assured by the front desk staff that the hotel would hold the package for me for a future pickup, even though it was scheduled to arrive after my departure because of weather issues. Furthermore, when I asked staff to decline the delivery, I was told it was "not possible". This was all despite the fact that I was charged a $10 fee for every package received during my stay. The hotel, through the Director of Guest Relations, later confirmed the package was not in their possession and stated they were "not able to accept responsibility for its disposal" because their team "followed the established policies" and disposed of the item. This directly contradicts the explicit verbal assurances I received from the staff upon checkout. The Director of Guest Relations offered a "gesture of goodwill" to consult with their security team for an insurance review. I followed up on March 30, 2026, requesting an update on the results of this review but never received a final reply. The staff's initial promises were worthless, and management's offer to resolve the matter was abandoned. This level of service is unacceptable for a luxury hotel.

Firstly, the quality of the hotel is subpar for what I expect of a Sofitel. It is dated, drab and worn. The pictures online suggest a grand lobby/entrance and a bit of old-style New York glamour - it is none of those things. The rooms are very basic - no luxury elements at all - just two beds and dresser in our room. Our first room had broken items (closet, safe) and we were transferred to a new room which was fine and equally as basic.

We also ate at the GABY onsite restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, which was terrible and the service was mediocre.

Net net, income would rank this a 3 star hotel experience and not at all the caliber of hotel I expected when I booked the Sofitel.
