Reviews for Sofitel New York

Our outstanding stay very memorable

Everything was amazing. We upgraded to a suite. Everyone in the hotel made us stay unforgettable, but the one person that was on top of everything Forrest was Jose.Mariora. If it were possible to clone him, I would do it 50 times and hire all of them for my employees. Keep up the good work may God bless.

Excellent, as always

We had a lovely stay, as always. The staff is so friendly, professional and service minded. Arian always makes sure that our breakfasts are the best. The front desk really help us when a package was delivered late. Thank you all for making our stay so nice and relaxing. The rooms at the Sofitel are large for being NYC. This is another plus with the Sofitel NYC.

Good but you might want to look elsewhere

Centrally located and an easy walk to Times Square and Broadway. Sadly not much of a view from the 16th floor You'll only get that from around the 20th floor or higher. We booked a suite, but despite the nice furnishings and spacious layout, the Sofitel provides almost no in-room embellishments. Things like wine glasses, china coffee mugs, bottles of water or a small milk bottle for the coffee machine were totally absent. Given the room tariff, to be frank, they are being cheap by only offering paper cups and powdered coffee whitener. Luxury? I think not. As there are many other alternatives in NYC we probably won't book the Sofitel again, it's OK but the PADI mentality (put-another-dollar-in) for any little extras was disappointing.

Summer stay at Sofitel NYC

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The location was terrific and walkable to many attractions/time square/Broadway/Grand Central etc,. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a suite on the upper floors and it was very comfortable and quiet. The room was pricey but it is NYC in the summer. One big issue as mentioned by many was the $45 daily charge for what they call Urban Experience which was a complete surprise as really its just a tax actually. We did bring a small dog and they are pet friendly , however, they are no real places to walk a dog except Bryant Park which is a few blocks away. I would leave your dog at home plus the pet fee is really expensive ($150 a day). One last annoyance was the phone service from the room. No way to tell who to call get your car/bellman/room service etc. i visited the front desk to inquire but they said just call the operator and they will direct your call. I did just that but was put on hold for 4-5 minutes and I finally hung up. Tried it 3-4 times again with the same result. Not very useful when you are on the 26th floor and have to go down to the front desk all the time.

Firstly, the quality of the hotel is subpar for what I expect of a Sofitel. It is dated, drab and worn. The pictures online suggest a grand lobby/entrance and a bit of old-style New York glamour - it is none of those things. The rooms are very basic - no luxury elements at all - just two beds and dresser in our room. Our first room had broken items (closet, safe) and we were transferred to a new room which was fine and equally as basic.

We also ate at the GABY onsite restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, which was terrible and the service was mediocre.

Net net, income would rank this a 3 star hotel experience and not at all the caliber of hotel I expected when I booked the Sofitel.
