W New York - Union Square

Beautiful, newly reimagined W in a fantastic location. Stayed here for 5 days on a business trip and it quickly became one of my favorite hotels in NYC. The location is great, right next to Union Square Park and close to pretty much everything. The 14th St - Union Square subway station is just around the corner, so no part of Manhattan ever feels far away. The hotel reopened last year after a two-year, $100 million renovation and is now W’s global flagship and the first hotel built around the brand’s new design language. Rockwell Group (who also designed the original W Union Square 25 years ago) did a great job of interpreting what W Hotels in 2026 can and should look like. Service, again, is just ok, which unfortunately seems to be typical for most hotels in NYC and the U.S. these days. No room upgrade despite my Marriott Ambassador Elite status. Breakfast at Seahorse, the hotel’s restaurant, is also just ok. There are far better breakfast options within walking distance, so I’d recommend heading out instead. Will be back next month!

One of the finest hotels in a nice neighbourhood. Our stay at W was for 7 nights and the hotel is just spectacularly good. The service by the whole team is fanatic and fabulous, just like they should be. The room is nice, big, well equipped with a great selection in the minibar, the house keeping is prompt, the hotel has a machine for ice and water installed on every floor so it’s just easy. The location is perfect. Surrounded by good bars & eateries. The room has excellent WiFi, good quality upholstery, comfortable beds & a very homely vibe where you actually don’t want to leave. The breakfast is great too, they have a set menu, and the food is really good. The team is always smiling, always pouring more coffee and giving us nice freshly made orange juice. The bathrooms are a bit compact but well designed and equipped The room we got had a nice view too, can sit and stare outside. The rooms are sound proofed well so there is no noise from the adjoining rooms. All in all highly recommended.

Hard to find this level of customer service elsewhere. This is the type of place where the staff remembers your name and goes above and beyond to try to help with whatever you need. One of the staff, Nelson told me they treat their guests like family - and I've felt it over and over again. I stay here every time I travel in! Everyone is lovely. The location is central - and bonus points for the tacos across the street.

This is a great hotel - suspect it would be very hard to beat in NYC. The first thing is the location. We have been to NYC probably 40 plus times now and the location of the hotel is perfect. Opposite Union Square - which is a great central location in itself with its market and buzz - it is in walking distance of the best of NYC in our view. On one side, you can walk to 5th avenue, pass the Empire State building, Times Square, the usual tourist hot-spots. Turn in the other direction and you have West (and East) Village with its fabulous restaurants and neighbourhood feel. There is no better located hotel in our view. The staff are all warm and genuinely friendly. The room we had was great. Decent size, quiet for NYC, great view. Clean. Couldn't fault it. There are just two things they could do to make it even better. First, the Lounge and the Rooftop bar are a bit of a faff. They don't open two days a week and are closed between 12-4 every day, which is right when you want to escape NY heat and grab a cool drink. A Lounge in particularly should also be 'loungy' - i.e. you can chill there, get whatever drink you want etc, but there are a few too many 'rules' - its a bar at night and a cafe by day for example. If I want a glass of wine at 2pm I think the hotel should provide this (the restaurant on the ground floor does have a small bar but its not comfortable for a drink and the drinks there are not the greatest). Likewise, if I want some tea at 10pm after a meal, there should be somewhere I can do this. Secondly, there is no water in the room. When it's 34 degrees outside, really need water in the room that we can take with us. Overall though, these are quite minor and the hotel does the big stuff right. Good staff, great location, comfortable and clean. We're back again in 2 months!

Our corner room was small and the bathroom was particularly small. The way the shower door opened was very awkward. The lighting in the room was poor. There was no light over the coffee maker and about one-third of the room had no overhead light or lamp. The bed and pillows were softer than we like. Housekeeping was noisy in the mornings. There was a lot of slamming of doors, not just by housekeeping, but by guests. Most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming when we were coming and going through the lobby. We were appalled to find a big roach on the bathroom floor on our last night. We mentioned this when we checked out and the woman at the front desk shared our horror. She said she would report it to management and they would get in touch with us, but to date, no one has.
