Reviews for Pendry Newport Beach

Never Again

After a stellar experience at the Pendry in Park City last winter, I chose the Pendry to meet LA family in Newport Beach enthusiastically. My first impression on arrival, was that though this hotel was not the kind of hotel I expected and, therefore, was not surprised to learn this was a remodel of an existing hotel. The facility was generic, and the only remarkable aspect of this hotel was the expensive nightly charge for such an unremarkable hotel. Though the hotel is not responsible for the weather, because it was in the 60's, I was unable to use any of the "resort" facilities, hence I paid $50 per night for internet access, because that's what happens when a hotel adds a "resort" junk fee that goes straigth to their bottom line without offering a la carte pricing. I guess I should be glad there wasn't a room towel fee, or a thermostat fee, bed-use fee or whatever clever scheme a hotel dreams up for this nightly fee, claiming it's for some special feature that should be included in the room cost, especially in a hotel that prides itself on being upscale. The clientele was not of the sort I would have expected at a fine hotel; they were noisy, comported themselves badly, and their behavior apparently led to a serious problem that required emergency services the weekend I was there. But the real irritaiton was how the hotel botched the charges on checkout (example: overnight parking charge when I didn't have a car, honor bar charge for a product I didn't use or take), and they still didn't get it right when I reviewed the final AmEx bill after I got home. Even worse, they never responded to my numerous phone calls to sort out the billing errors. Restaurant service was good here, but the food was as unremarkable as the hotel facilities. For me, this experience was a black eye on the Pendry brand. Instead of seeeking out the Pendry (or Montage) in the future, given this bland product--both the facilities and the food--muliple billing errors and inexcusable failure to fix their mistakes, and especially their failure to return my phone calls to fix the incorrect billing, I would never stay here again. I will stay at other hotel brands where Pendry is located, and would advise others to be cautious about patronizing this hotel and consider staying elsewhere if/when in Newport Beach.

Exceptional

A truly excellent hotel stay. Everything was beautifully appointed and well-planned, and comfort was a constant. Well done! The only downside is the very expensive valet which ended up being $60/night. I was surprised to find that after I had checked out.

From start to finish this is a five star hotel the staff are excellent. The facilities are so well professionally operated. There isn’t anything in this hotel that isn’t five star. The restaurant facilities are exceptionally good. A variety of food and drinks are as good as anywhere. Choose a corner suite it’s worth it

Great service

Great service. Stayed here as an AMEX FHR. They honored early check in and late check out. They had great service from the front desk to the pool staff to the concierge to arrange reservations. Would stay here again when in Newport Beach. The hotel is walking distance to Fashion Island so there is added shopping and dining.

Great experience

Blake was excellent at providing prompt delivery of my vehicle and a gentleman on top of that. Glad he is part of Pendry Hotels. It would be a sad day to let him go. Others could learn something from Blake's professionalism. Way to go Blake. See you soon .
