Hotel Viking

I ordered a medium rare burger. It was $26. It was well done,like a hockey puck and was small considering the size of the bun. While waiting for my car. the valet asked us "if we guys were all set?" . We, both ladies in our70's, were not all set. Someone should teach common courtesy to the staff.

The hotel is well located. It was recently redone and the decor is pretty. The staff is friendly. But the rooms are quirky. The first room they tried to put me in, 405, had no closet and no bureau at all and was the size of a postage stamp. It is hard to understand how they could design a room without a closet. My son's room, 403, had an armoire with a hanging bar with but shelves right below it so it was impossible to use to hang any clothes. See photo. He had to hang his clothes on the sprinklers. The bathrooms are very small. It is a cashless hotel so you cannot even get change at the front desk.

The staff is very helpful and pleasant. The building is another story. My first room reeked of mold to the point that it made my eyes burn. This room should not be used until the mold issue is eliminated, as it is a health hazard. It had a dehumidifier in the room that vented out the window. They knew that there was a problem as no other room seemed to have a dehumidifier. The light on top of the device flashed clean filter. The exhaust hose was wedged in place against the black out shade with a folded up bathrobe, the phone did not work to call the front desk, and there was a giant dead mosquito on the floor. In addition, the bathroom sink was smaller than an airplane sink and had a shelf directly over it, so all that could be washed in the sink were your hands. I promptly switched rooms to a much nicer room, with a normal bathroom sink. The only issues with this room was that the TV would go on by itself, one of the bedside lamps did not work, and there was only an armoire, no closet. Only problem with that was that there was a hanging bar about 1 foot over a shelf, so no room to hang anything. My daughter’s room down the hall had no closet and no armoire, plus none of the electrical outlets worked so she had to change rooms. Definitely not worth the high 5 star price they charge per night.

New ownership group appears to have cut costs and amenities. One day our room wasn’t cleaned until very late in the day. And I don’t think the toilet was cleaned regularly. Little things are gone- water station in the lobby was gone. No water bottles in the room. $45 per night for parking. We likely won’t be back

Crazy expensive, style over substance. It is pretty and busy but misses the mark on some basic things. Everyone has their hand out for tips, but not one place in the hotel deals in cash. It is a bit awkward to have the valet guy break bills just so you can stick some money in their hand every trip in and out. We kept hearing about how they just remodeled and some things looked nice, but whoever did the design must not travel much. A room that sleeps four has only one single robe hook in the shower room. The shower itself was also fancy over function. Who needs an electric control to activate and adjust the water. We figured it out, just took a couple attempts. The housekeeping staff were wonderful, the valet guys were fast and energetic, the beds were comfy. All things you expect get at any nice hotel for way less money. PS I don't have a poodle.
