Disappointing hotel

Run down rooms, air conditioning not working almost $600 for an after 4:00 check-in. Better to Stay 1/2 mile down the road in Middleton at the Marriott residence inn!

Peaceful and Inviting

Hotel Viking completely exceeded my expectations. From the warm welcome by the valet to every detail of my stay, the experience was truly five-star. My room was spotless and full of charm, and the room service was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to return!

Stay Somewhere Else

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

So many things wrong with this hotel: - Staff: The staff are exceptionally unfriendly. No one smiles at you IF they make eye contact. When we approached the front desk, the person just stared at us, never saying “good morning/afternoon.” We would walk by housekeeping in the hall, smile and say hello and all they would do is just stare at us. No one wears a name tag, and there is clearly not a dress code, so we didn’t know when we were talking to a staff member or who that staff member was. I had to ask what Ragu’s name was when he was exceptionally rude to us at the front desk during check in. I had to deal with 3 staff upon checkout and the only person wearing a name badge was the manager Bryan. There was one instance when someone from the hotel knocked on our door. When we answered, she spoke to us in Spanish. I still don’t know what she wanted, as she kept saying the same thing over and over in Spanish. - Actual hotel: Our room was so old and outdated. The blinds were metal and rusted. The air conditioner was crazy loud and woke us up constantly throughout the night. The bathroom shelves were a strong breeze away from collapsing, and the bathroom drawer fell out when we attempted to use it. The shower was stunningly disgusting…we felt we needed to wear flip flops in order not to catch something. Positive: The only, and I mean only, positive was the gym. It’s large and well appointed. There are so many Inns and Hotels in Newport that it makes absolutely no sense to stay at the Viking. When I checked us out, they attempted to charge me an additional $500 when I had already paid. When I called them out, radio silence. No one could explain the charge. Simply a disgusting experience. Our advice is to stay somewhere else!

Convenient, friendly

This 99-year-old needs to refresh its rooms and provide more room amenities and soundproofing to make it five star. Hallway noise was significant. Food was excellent.

We got married at Kay Chapel and had our reception at the Hotel Viking in December. The entire event was everything that I hoped it would be! The Hotel Viking is traditional, outstanding and eloquent. Our reception was in the Bellevue Ballroom and everything was beautiful. The staff was exceptional! They were there for us throughout the evening and paid such close attention to all of the guests! The hotel service was also outstanding. I am delighted to give the Hotel Viking the highest of reviews.
