About the Hotel

For decades newlyweds and romantics have flocked to Niagara Falls for memorable getaways. These days they are sequestering themselves behind the doors of the Sterling Inn & Spa, the only boutique hotel to grace this epic region. Built in 1928 and once the home to Bordens Dairy, it was eventually converted into a nightclub and restaurant during the 1980s, and is now part of the Preferred Boutique portfolio and part of the Preferred Hotel Group. Its transition into a hotel started in 2005 with original architectural elements, such as the exposed ceiling beams and three-story milk-bottle entrance, incorporated into the new design. The result is a hybrid hotel combining the best of a luxury resort with the intimacy of a fine inn. Rooms tend to be spacious and thoughtfully appointed with oversize beds, roaring fireplaces, wet bars, and ample-size bathrooms equipped with raining shower heads and body jets. Suites offer not one, but two rooms with sitting areas and plush bedrooms.

Modern and well located!

Stayed here 1 night after leaving the hotel we had originally booked else where (the hotel standards are so poor around niagra it’s very hard to find somewhere that isn’t 3 star). Sterling Inn is honestly a hidden gem - lovely staff; spacious, clean and modern rooms; within minutes walk of main attractions on Clifton and short walk to the main falls. Highly recommend the hotel. Lots of parking options and restaurants near by.

Niagara Canda stay

We went to see the Falls and arrived early AM to be picked up by our tour company in the Sterling parking lot. The front desk was especially accommodating for our leaving the car safely parked for the day because we weren't checking in until after the full day tour. When we did check in the staff and Front desk manager Gregg were extremely helpful. Our room was huge and nicely decorated. The attached restaurant was excellent with a good wine cellar. But the "crowning glory" was the delivery of a complete breakfast(included) to us the next morning at a time of our choosing in the room on a tray. It was great!! I would highly recommend it!! Great Weekend Getaway

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

My partner and I stayed in room 214, it was an absolute dream. The room was clean, comfortable, and well suited to our purposes. I didn't hear much sound between walls. The tub was big and comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly, with a hold for luggage before check in making our first day so comfortable. The entire weekend was rainy, and Debbie had excellent knowledge of the area so we fit in some great views of the butterflies (but on recommendation, I'll have to drive us next time we're in the area so we can explore a little more of that tulip farm). Seriously. Thank you Debbie. You made things so easy. It's within walking distance of a lot of sights, with an excellent out of the way walk to the Falls so it avoids a lot of foot traffic from the main tourist spots. The Spa in the basement was also very lovely, so we got a massage and then were able to unwind in our room. Breakfast was pleasant, though I wish the Egg option was a little more personalized. I would absolutely advise anyone staying in Niagara to spring for the Sterling Inn. My partner and I will absolutely be returning.

So many reasons to stay here!

Our initial email to Sterling Inn and Spa with questions about parking, taxis, and breakfast was answered promptly and to our complete satisfaction. Check-in (and check-out) was quick and easy, with friendly and knowledgeable staff providing us with a map and directions to local attractions. Our room was clean and very spacious with a very comfortable 4-poster king size bed and all the comforts of home including a gas fireplace. The small fridge was stocked with local craft beer (at a reasonable price) – nice touch! And we could open the window - always a perk to get some fresh air. There was no view from this room (we overlooked part of the entrance roof and a few surrounding buildings) but we weren’t in the room for long anyway. The bathroom came complete with a huge steam shower including fabulous body products. Make sure you figure out the second shower nozzle to get hotter water. Slippers and cozy bathrobes completed the elegant spa-like ambiance. Breakfast arrived exactly as ordered…to our room…right on time. What a lovely treat having breakfast in bed without getting out of our pyjamas - quiche, French press coffee, fruit, yogurt with granola, croissants and orange juice. (Yes - included in the price). About the price…I read several reviews that complained about the price and that parking is extra. Having previously researched many Niagara Falls hotels, it appears that the “chain” hotel prices are almost double and (more expensive) parking is not included in their prices either, with self parking sometimes two blocks away! We were happy with the $18 charge and felt totally comfortable parking in the Sterling Inn and Spa lot. We would NOT feel the same sense of comfort parking even across the street (at a lower price) as several Tripadvisor reviewers mentioned. There were, however, a few extra fees/charges added to the invoice that we weren’t previously aware of. We chose to take a taxi to and from the Avalon Theatre (in the Fallsview Casino complex) as we weren’t comfortable walking pretty much anywhere in Niagara Falls at night and it ended up in being a $10 taxi fare each way (plus tip). The front desk kindly arranged the taxi, and it arrived right on time. While there are no views of the falls from this hotel, we considered staying within a quick taxi ride or a 20 minute walk to be a fair compromise for quality and personalized service.
